There is.

You just have to be a bit more creative than "a bigger gun" or "a bigger faster tank w/ bigger guns"

Yeah, I don't understand the question.

There's a ton of conversion work on sites like UnderEmpire. Dakka's just more of a 40K site, so you'll see more 40K logs and modelling.

I'll make sure to post some pictures of some then, as I intend to make my first WHFB army have a bunch of conversions in it. Usually in 40k I like to convert up a leader for the army so I want to do that as well. I've already made one conversion, I just need to find a way to take decent pictures of it, or redo the paint scheme (giving them a black steel for the armour, currently with a watered down black ink wash over boltgun) as it's making taking pictures (Usually ends up looking like black with too much gloss varnish in it when I look at the pictures) a bit trickier than normal.

My army is low on conversions :-/. That's the one thing I haven't been totally pleased with. I think there is lots of conversion potential, but it's true, maybe it's not so obvious- as in the pieces from different races don't mix together as easily?

With 40k orks, you can use literally anything . So that might be part of it...

For wood elves, I did convert a model riding a unicorn. I had it commissioned to be painted, and it might be arriving back here today

In skaven been converting some plague monks into plague censor bearers since its a ton cheaper to do that. Right now waiting on 2 boxes of glade riders to come in so I can convert them over to Dark Riders for my DE army since the normal dark rider models are so god damn expensive.

I've been working on some Dark Riders, the first one I finished is up in my gallery.

Very annoying to do though, having to file the cloaks is so tedious!

I should be starting on some Glade Guard -> Shade conversions too so we'll see how those work out.

There are conversions for WHFB. However, on average, you can expect a lower converted model : regular model ratio as WHFB armies tend to be much bigger than WH40K in model count (For instance, I might have well over 200 models in a 2,000pt Orc & Goblin list, which in 40K would be absurd for Orks barring a gimmick list).

Main things I tend to see converted are:
1) Unit Upgrades (Command, equipment normally not provided in the box but allowed for the regiment, Inner Circle Knights / Big 'Uns, and so on).
2) Monsters, but if there's no official model it's somewhat understandable why they tend to be converted.
3) Heroes and Lords. They often are the center of one's focus, after all. Plus it works well for intimidation: If you make your 90pt Big Boss look like it'll wreck your enemy's day, they'll focus more firepower on it than they should.
4) Individual models, often used for stuff such as Skirmish, Warbands, or Mordheim wherein the extra character provides for a higher Converted : Regular ratio.

Most of my Orc & Goblin conversions are either number three or number 4. Pretty much all my characters are converted (I don't put out an extra $15+ for a model when I can make it with Bitz I have at the loss of a single R&F), and I have a few non-characters who were originally built for a Mordheim campaign. My 'favorites' are:
A) The Warboss on a Boar. To make him bigger, I used the torso of a starter-set Orc so that - on a boar - he stands about a head taller than other Boar Boyz. Not much beyond that, but it's an effective conversion.
B) Big Boss on Boar. He was modified to be resting an axe over his shoulder, originally a Great Weapon on a Boar before 7th Edition said "You'll never want that option on an Orc".

I have a conversion project that I'm working on right now, and I could use some of your opinions of what I should do next.
Do you think I should add hooks on the left side of his hip as well? Do you think I should make his legs longer? Do you think I should add plate or fur to his boots? Whad do you think I should attatch the chain to, that is attatched to his belly plate? I have not decided any of these things yet since they do not show on the picture.
Please tell me what you think

Well with the horn, arm and hammer all on the one side i think it will start to look lopsided

either put on the other horn like in the pic or do somthing to the other side of the model to reduce the lopsidedness.

Maybe a big Circular shield, some spikes and fur trim with dangling pelts and skulls?

its looking great though

Thank you!
Well It's far from done and I'm going to add alot more to him. I'm going to add another horn on the belly, and give him big horns and a fur coat on the back. Trying to copy the image as much as I can. And there are two big ogre skulls that are hanging from a rope between the giant horns on his back, that I'm working on(Though they don't show in this pic)

I think both go in the painting and modeling section, though 40k will outnumber Fantasy conversions generally.

My Dragon Ogres can be seen here, for example:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/265560.page - has a load of alternate models for VC's from all sorts of different companies, as well as some scratch built/converted stuff.

If I ever get onto doing my fantasy army, I will try and convert up the special units and characters - not so much the core units though, I could not face converting up hundreds of skelingtons
