I believe the correct term to use here is "Oh snap."

Ouze on GW: "I'd like to be like, hey baby, you're a freak but you just got too much crazy going on, and I don't hook up with bunny boilers. But then Necrons are going to come out, and I'm going to be like damn girl, and then next thing you know, it's angry sex time again.

It's complicated."

I believe the correct term is "oh repeated stress forming weakness and breakage at the shear point."

I'm suprised mine haven't gone this way yet as I use them to cut far more than plastic.

Mine did that recently, but my snapping was... more dramatic, as in the piece flying off into my arm imbedding it's self in there leaving a nice flesh wound for me.

I'm lucky it wasn't my eye !

Same thing happened to mine like the day after I bought them. I was only cutting plastic too so... I dunno.

Lightweight side cutters for snipping sprues aren't meant for use on metal.

Try a jeweller's saw.

KK: They are fine with metal, but with anything bigger than the odd tab or flash you need to nip away at it a few times, rather than 1 single cut.
Ive had the same pair of plastic snips for about 3 years now, but before that they tended to last about 2 weeks a pair (in all fairness, 1 pair did seperate a carnasaurs head from its neck)

A slum in scotland... the only shinty with a computer!

Sadly my cutters are heading in that direction fairly fast as my friends like to ask the question "will it cut" and then proceed to chop things up, iv had to sharpen them a good few times because of them, and the edges are kinked rather badly, i think ill get a different brand of clippers next time as they seam weak...

Mine are still in good shape, though I fear for the safety of my modelling knife.

I bought a 3$ pair at Walmart in the craft section (bead working supplies). I dont do heavy chopping with them, but I will clip metal parts with them. Have had mine 4 years now...

Yadda yadda wal-mart, yadda yadda all-consuming all-powerful corporation now has cheap gaming supplies also - curses!

I think I'm going to go and get a set of GF9's heavy duty cutters today from Hobbycraft. What I likes about GW's is the way the grips are moulded onto the handles, others gradually slide off. Mind you, I do put my snips through the mill. I have a jeweller's saw, but (a) it makes mess, (b) snips get to awkward bits and (c) I'm a lazy sod.

Tricky in the UK, I believe. I wandered into Hobbycraft today, but no heavy duty GF9's to be found. Can I wait a month and half till father's day/birthday? Wife's hacked off as she got me the last pair - still... I suppose I could actually do some painting for a change... And then there's all the gs work on my death riders.

Yeah, there's no way I'll last 6 weeks without buying a new pair!

Inside that little light in your refridgerator

My clippers exploded yesterday, at the hinge.

The bit pinged off, hit me on the forehead hard enough to knock me off my chair, then flew out of the window.

Crazy painful

I use Wire cutters for mine. Been using them for the last 6 months or so. They're a couple years old and I've yet to have a problem. I bought them for a job and paid about $25 for them.

@IMGI Have you tried a jeweler's supply company? Their hand tools tend to be pretty high quality as those folks are making a living with them and cutting metal all the time. Rio Grande out here in the US has a pretty good selection of most hand tools from the cheapies to high-end German stuff... that way you can pick your poison based on your needs and budget. I imagine there must be something similar in the UK.

I got my nippers for the Boeing Aircraft surplus store out in Seattle. Got 3 or 4 pair in the used tool bin for about 50 cents each... They were old and discarded when I got them but even so have had them for 9 years or so, used them on jewelry and figures and haven't broken any yet. I do prefer the more heavily bladed ones though... the little ones with the tiny little triangular blades are just asking for a catastrophic failure.
