i gotta say man, its hard to pick a favorite!! They are all just fantastic minis with a totally personal style. Love it all and absolutely something to very proud of! Happy New years!
@Bebop: If I had to pick an absolute favourite, it'd be between Yarrick (just love that model!), the King's Man (tried a lot of new techniques on him and most of them worked) or the Howling Griffon Marine (the first time I really painted a Marine as a high-quality display piece rather than for gaming, so it represents a significant change in approach).
Cracking on with the commission stuff, on track to have it all done by the end of the week so stay tuned for more Skaven and Deathwatch!
They all look brilliant Para, you have some of the best techniques for battered and bloodied models that I've seen, and I hope you have as good of a 2017 as 2016 has been.
If you can't believe in yourself, believe in me! Believe in the Dakka who believes in you!
Time to kick off 2017 with some new stuff! Rather than buying yet more Space Marines, I decided I'd start making good on my pledge to branch out more with ranges and types of mini by shifting over to some more Fantasy stuff, as the range there seems a bit broader than sci-fi where you've basically got Infinity style and 40k style
Inspired by J-paint's awesome Beastmen warband he's been working on recently, I decided I'd put together a small group of minis with a sort of 'wild nature' theme, some humans, some beastfolk, maybe a few fey/faerie types as I've got a good amount of ancient folklore stuff so far so they'd fit. There's no real plan for gaming with them at the mo, but you can never have too much stuff for the infinite Fantasy skirmish games around at the moment.
First off is a mini from Godslayer, which appears to be defunct (judging by the fact this guy was half price in a clearacne sale), shame as it's a nice sculpt and the range has a nice aesthetic, so I'll keep my eye out for more from it. He'll be the nominal leader of the warband, because if there's one thing years of gaming has taught me it's that the dude waving his sword in the air and yelling is definitely in charge. That and he has bagpipes, so he can deafen anyone who argues!
Next up are a few beasty chaps, I came across Otherworld Miniatures the other day and they seem like a great and pretty extensive range, plenty of adventurers, NPCs and Monsters all in a great old-school style but nice crisp modern sculpting, so you get all the charm of oldhammer/late-90s to early 2000s style stuff but much more dynamic poses and sculpts. Here's a few shots of what's to come:
Spoiler:
Gnoll Chieftain... not being a D&D guy, I'm still not 100% sure what a Gnoll is, but he looks cool and is pretty massive to boot, great sculpt.
Satyr and Centaur. Had to buy these as it's surprisingly rare to find these fantasy staples in miniature form.
And a human ranger, not part of the planned band but I needed a rogue sort for this month's challenge, and she fit the bill nicely.
In short, check those guys out, they're very nice. Shipping is a bit pricey so you might want to go through a retailer (I got these from Firestorm and got free shipping), but they're great models and there's something in the range for most fantasy needs, especially as an alternative source of RPG minis given how hard a lot of Reaper stuff is to get in the UK.
More tomorrow, the Skaven BB team is finished bar a final touch on the basing, and the Deathwatch bikers aren't far behind. In the mean time, cheers for looking, any thoughts welcome!
Great work on the most recent three. And you've reminded me that I have some old classics to add when I eventually paint up the rats! I also like what you've achieved with the simple pad and weapon swap on the Librarian. Godslayer has some nice figures. I picked up a few a little while ago, but haven't seen that bagpiper. Nice work on him, and I like the brighter effect that he has with the flock and use of colour.
Got the rest of the Otherworld Miniatures models done! Quite a nice little warband now, though I still want to expand it a little with some stuff from Mierce, maybe a little more Otherworld and Godslayer, possibly some Reaper bits as well.
First off, the other human member, a ranger with standard ranger gear of sword, smaller sword and bow:
Next up, somewhat less standard, the Centaur and Satyr, two fantasy staples that really don't come up much in wargaming. Both nice sculpts. of the two I probably prefer the Satyr, as the Centaur's head is at a bit of an awkward angle.
And saving my true favourite for last, the Gnoll Chieftain, a wonderfully dynamic and imposing sculpt that just screams danger and meanness, real brutal stuff.
And the whole lot together:
That's all for now, getting into exam season so I might go quiet for a week or so but I'll be back soon enough with some Inquisitorial goodness! Thanks for looking, any thoughts welcome!
Something a little different today, the promised Inquisition stuff is coming later in the week (Coteaz and another Primus-based conversion commission), but in the mean time, and as part of my resolution to go 'marine clean' for January and February as I painted so many of them last year, here's a pointy-eared space pirate, my attempt to Grimdark/Blanchitsu up the traditionally clean and shiny Eldar.
I wanted something that wasn't necessarily a Dark Eldar, but maybe a Corsair prince or the like, very opulent but also slightly terrifying and cruel-looking. There's a bit of Dire Avenger, a bit of Harlequin and a smattering of stuff from the bits box. All in all, I'm pretty pleased with how he's come out.
What do you think?
Cheers for reading!

Absolutely love it dude. It's the perfect blend of Eldar form but with a grimdark style to it that you very seldom see on them. The execution is great with just enough hints at themore common bright colours of traditional Eldar to remind you that maybe, some time long ago, his armor, gear and clothing held splendor.
This is a style of painting I've always wanted to emulate but have never been able to make look right. I'm in awe and would love to see more Eldar done like this.

@warboss: yeah, I do plan to add something to the banner. He's going to be my entry into the challenge this month, so before I do final pics I'll add a rune or something, and touch up a few rough areas, I just wanted to make sure the idea had some appeal first before I give it the final touches as I figure it's a pretty 'love it or hate it' concept.
@IF: more may well happen, I did enjoy doing him and I have a pile of harlequin bits lying around that I'll look a doing something similar with.

Good lord that's fantastic absolutely love they way he looks like a Craftworlder/Harlequin that's fallen from grace into piracy. I_F said it best 'maybe, some time long ago, his armor, gear and clothing held splendor'.
Wish I could paint half that well!
Also, I hope you don't mind but I'm absolutely stealing that modelling for my Spaceport idea! I've got all those bits leftover from other kitbashes, but never thought of putting them together!
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery after all
Putting together a few more of these fellows at the moment, I might try and mould them to be a stand-in for the Troupe/Shadowseer/Death Jester Harlequin Formation but I'm really just letting the rule of cool run wild, so expect a few more of these kitbashes in the next few days! It's definitely very different to doing Space Marine kitbashes as with them, it's all designed to go together nicely, but the challenge is part of the fun really! I love the scope for juxtaposing the glamour and sleekness of the Eldar with the grim reality of the 40k setting, there's something very ironic about it that speaks to me... maybe I should grimdark up some Tau in future!

Thanks dude yeah I've been kitbashing Eldar for ages now and I tried out a Truescale Marine or two recently and it's a bit of a different learning curve!
I'd love to see a Harlequin Troupe done in this style. So many cool possibilities
Oh, and sign me up for some grimdark Tau too anything that brings the grimdark look to otherwise noblebright designs is pure gold as far as I'm concerned
