I just made these labels up because I'm bored at work.

A builder is someone who picks out an army based on a specific list and/or playstyle and figures out everything he/she needs, buys it, builds it and starts playing. You will rarely deviate from your list weather it's because it's something for tourneys and you want to master it, or you have a limited budget and just want to buy what you need.

An army collector is someone who buys or hopes to buy as many models for your army possible, even the ones that look awesome but have sucky rules. You have a shelves or multiple army transports filled with your models and almost every game you play is with a different list. You might have your tournament list with all the units that the uber people say are good, but you also have your "fun" lists with other units that are always dead by turn 2, but the models look awesome even when they're in your dead pile.

So which are you?

Collector for sure. I buy cool stuff, nevermind if it can be used in a game system.

Collector... but I am envious of the builders because they can be "done" with their army. I'll never be "done".

I usually start out as a builder, but after I play the army a bit if I don't like it I sell it, if I do like it I keep it and turn into a collector

I planned for my lizardman army to be a 1000 pt skink army, now it's pushing 2500 pts and I hope to own at least 1 of everything.

Nids are the same way, just love the models. And imperial guard too. I hope to be able to field every tank there is one day. (not including forge world) .. Thank god for magnets!

There are just so many cool models and when I look at them I think "wow, I gotta make an army based around that unit". Then a few hundred models (and dollars later) you have an army which for the most part is not competitive at all.

First and foremost a collector, I don't get many games in so am more concerned with owning a cool looking army than one which can beat all comers on the tabletop.

I also have always stuggled when it comes to getting miniatures painted, for me the main enjoyment of the hobby comes from collecting and converting/assembling my models.

Depends on my army. My Orks are just what the are, and I don't plan to make more of them. My Crimson Fists, on the other hand, have obscure and OOP models from all over the last 25 years, and I seek these models out from time to time. As a result I have two counts-as Thunderfire Cannons - one is a Thudd Gun and the other is a Rapier Laser Destroyer, two of the oldest predators, and more Terminators than I could ever possibly field.

They're Dark Angels so its ok
I'd defnitely say collector, however having said that I do have limits to how many. Looking to have a whole company plus a portion of both the Deathwing and Ravenwng plus bits of other comapanies so I can max out certan FO slots. Currently have 2770 pts of Dark Angels.

Well, I start off as a builder. I build to a list that looks good. However, once I've decided to start a new army, I have a compulsion to make sure that I can max out any FOC slot with every possible combination, just in case I ever want to play with that many of that unit.. So I had to choose collector. And my wallet is looking with fear at my growing daemon collection. And at the necron rumors, it had thought it was done buying those models...

Collector.

No one in their right mind gets a Guard army with nearly 100 vehicles just for the hell of it.

At the same time though, I try not to have spare models. I have 240 regular Guardsman (as in 24 squads of 10 men), and not a single one more (by design). I ended up with two extras, and they drive me mad, because I have no use for them. Same for my Marines. Full Company, 6 Tac, 2 Dev, 2 Assault. Then I had a few extra Bolter Marines. Drove me nuts. I've got more since then to make squads from other companies, but at the time it was really annoying.

So I am specific in what I buy (my Necron army had a ceiling for how much I was going to buy, ditto for my Deathwatch army), but they were never designed around a list.

I'm a builder with collector tendencies. I mainly try and buy stuff to create my current lists but I bought 4 sentinels and a basilisk because I like the models.

I'll probably end buying the new manticore kit, not got a list for it but hey new model

I guess I'm a collector for the sake of being a builder.

I really like having the ability to play whatever list I feel like at any given time. Consequently - lots of collecting.
