I would like to know what everyone fielded in Ard Boyz yesterday or today?
What were some of the things that gave you trouble?
What are some of your strong points?
If you advanced will you play the same army?

My List Placed 3rd
3 X Tervigons With CS AG Troops
2 X 10 Termagaunts with Devourers
1 x 10 Termagaunts
Swarmlord with 3 TY Guard
1 Tyrannofex with Rupture Cannon
1 Trygon Prime with AG
1 Mawloc with AG
2 X 3 Hive Guard
1 x 3 Zoanthrope w Mycetic Spore

The biggest thing that messed me up was the Doom of Malantai.
I was not nearly prepared for it as I should be. I honestly didnt pay it much attention ever. The dang thing killed in two turns before I was able to shoot it... 1 Tyrannofex, 1 Trygon Prime, 1 Tervigon, 1 Hive Guard squad, 2 Gaunt Squads.
I think I will also have trouble with assault heavy horde armies too.
I think the strengths are obvious, tons of T6 wounds, Tervigon Farming, and decent anti tank

I will be playing in the next round and will probably be using the same list or close too it.

I played Orks and placed 1st.

Game 1 - Minor Victory vs. Mechdar
Game 2 - Massacre vs. Blood Angels
Game 3 - Massacre vs. Mech IG (Melta Vets/PBS/Inquisitor, non-"leafblower")

My list is located here on dakka.

Overall, the only thing that really gave me any sort of trouble were Eldar vehicles. Luckily for me, Eldar tend to be light on troops so killing them allowed me to squat objectives with large units of boyz and stay in the fight long enough to get the win. I think I misplayed this matchup slightly, and managed to compensate towards the end of our match, though it was a near draw (won by 1 uncontested objective).

As for strong points, I think familiarity with my army was my biggest strong point, that and going into the event with very few kill points for mission three didn't hurt either.

I'm not sure if I'm going to play the same list... but I'm pretty sure I will be playing the same army. I have access to IG and Daemons, but I feel more comfortable playing Orks than either of the other two.

My first thoughts were that I wasn't going to do well. I got lucky however and didn't have to face any razorwire or chimera-spam lists. I only saw one land raider all day (which a tervigon flipped believe it or not), so I had luck on my side in lots of cases. Round 2 was easily my hardest battle, and it was against a list that nearly mirrored my own. I squeaked by on a minor victory, and only because my opponent was unprepared for the doom and had his units clustered closely together with a nice little spot in the middle wide open. I have a feeling not only will he be bringing his own next time, he'll not be so close together in anticipation for mine either.

Overall i had a great time and I would have had great fun even if i hadn't won.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

Not an easy fight in the slightest pulling 3 marines opponents (BA, Black Templar,Vulcan SM). The thing that gave me the most trouble was the piles and piels of melta all over the place. 2 in our neck of the woods:

One had Blood Angels first, Nids second, Blood Angels third

Other had Nids first, Nids second, Space marines (me) third

I took my Wardens of Tomorrow, Pain Train version.

6 ironclads w/ all trimmings
Master of the Forge w/2 servitors
3 laserbacks w/5 man squads
rhino w/librarian + assault squad
For the extra 500 I picked up a squadron of 3 landspeeders and a unit of 10 grey knights

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

In my happy place, I'm in my happy place...

I took first with:

Eldrad w/6 warlocks in a Shuriken Cannon Cerpent
Avatar

3x10 Dire Avengers w/Bladestorm
2x5 Pathfinders
7 jetbikes with 2 Shuriken Cannons and Warlock

2x 10 Firedragons in Brightlance Serpents w/exarch/flamer/Crackshot

2x3 Warwalkers 2 Scatter lasers each

I played slowed honestly, my force was no cohesive and I made tons of mistakes in the first 2 games.

In round 1 I went second and I faced Lysander Marines and stupidly lost 3 scoring units on turn 2. I lured him off 2 objectives contested a third and held 2 myself. If I didn't know how to play tourneys I would have lost. Mistakenly we recorded it as a minor victory for me and since I was in first at the end anyway the TO didn't want to worry about it. But it would have put the 2nd place winner in 3rd.

In round 2 I went first and I faced semi meched orks. He put everything in resrves and I forgot table quarters lets you come on the entire long edge so gave up 300 points for 55 in return! Then most of his army didn't come on until bottom of turn 5 and the end of the game! Anyway I beat him by only 400 some odd VP so a minor victory. I did kill everything byt Ghazkull that came on the board that I could. I had to laugh, we both had great fun and laughed a lot!

Round 3 I faced a 9 Vendetta IG list that had one huge platoon embarked on 8 of the vendettas so they all came on by one reserve roll according to him, TO agreed and I didn't care so I will post that in the YMDC forum latter.

I went second. I liked my opponent, he only had 31 KP in his list (since all 9 of the vendettas counted for 9 KP) and was on my game. we both had everything in reserve exept my rangers and he failed to focus fire and kill either unit. At turn 5 and with only 3 minutes left to play I was up 15 to 4 so I sent my units into his deployment zone and into the center of the board and didn't kill anything else. He then went all "That guy" on me and started another turn. I needed to get home to the kids and said, no way 3 minutes and its over. The TO decided games would play long for the last since more people wanted it than not. So he got one more kill point from me. I was angry and rolled well for everything even when he started cheating (I have no idea what he was thinking) and ended up with 21KP to his 5.

Anyway I have relearned tons of stuff, and yes, knowing how to play regardless of lists, dice rolls, etc., was way more important in my case.

I will come with a much more competitive list that works well together for the semis.

Yep, definitely can't do that with the vendettas, in order for platoons to merge they have to deploy as one big blob, and can't ever split up from coherency during the game. Regardless, since each set of 3 vendettas that was in a squadron is a unit, each unit of 3 had to roll separately, and the individual squads inside of them counted for individual kp, as they too were separate units.

Came in 5th out of 18, 2 pts away from number 4 spot, 4 pts from number 2/3 spot (it was tied), and about 10 from number 1.

1st battle vs. SMurfs
Major Victory for me. I had about 400 more kp than my opponent, so he put up a good fight (and also ended up in the 4th place spot...). I ended up winning the game by DAVU-shocking him off of the objectives on the last turn of the game.

2nd battle vs. ork swarm/hordes
Major LOSS for me. Spearhead deployment against a 192 model ork swarm? By turn 2 I was literally surrounded. In fact, I spent most of the game trying to fight my way out of the corner. Everytime I opened a hole, it was filled back up by the horde. Fire prisms proved to be absolutely useless (which is bad, because I expected them to save me in the (what I thought was an unlikely) event that I went up against a horde army. Everytime I fired the pieplate, at a unit which would have taken a brutal punishing blow... it scattered about 8" to the right... into a unit of ork nobz, which got a nice 4+ cover save, PLUS they had cybork bodies... Can you say I didn't really kill all that much? Yeah...

In the end I missed getting the minor loss (and possibly 3 place) by about 20 pts...

3rd battle vs. blood angels
Massacre for me. I claimed 18 killpts, and I only gave up 9 (2 of which were fireprisms... yeah, those actually ended up being the weakest link in my list, 1 survived the second game... somehow.... but thats about it)...

Don't have 2 very good players match up against each other in the first round because they will get a draw and knock each other out of contention.

@ chaos0xomega - On the fire Prisms here is a lil trick to use next time vs horde. Put Eldrad's Serpent by the two Prisms and cast guide on each of the prisms. POOF two Twin linked shots of S5 AP4. Also, never ever go into a 2500pt game without holofields, too much of your killing power is tied up in them and at 2500 they will be the biggest targets.

I ended up winning at my location. My army played:
Shrike with two CC Terminator squads with a libby, backed up by a metric ton of tacs in rhinos with AC/LAS preds
Chaos hodge podge with Thousand Sons and Zerks, 3x defilers and a ton of Terminators, Nurgle Prince and Greater daemon, a chosen squad and a CSM squad
Mech Guard

Of all those, the Chaos hodgepodge gave me the most trouble. I wiped his terminators in two rounds of combat with my terminators/chappy, but the prince, the Greater and the zerks all counter charged. That combat lasted 2/3 of the game, but it killed my entire Terminator unit. The Thousand sons just don't die. We also ran out of time.

I took first with 67 VP should have been 8 but at that point it wasn't worth arguing over since the guy I was play conceded and he was second place me me going in to the game. I gave up 2 VP total.

1) Major victory game against BA. Missed the massacre by not killing 4 marines.

2) Massacre against vanilla marines

3) Massacre against chaos marines.

It seemed like no one wanted to run up my gut to take out the LFs(which is what I would've done) so they just shot all game long with the GHs staying close by as counter assault units until I had to rush for objectives. I went second the first game, was given first turn the second game and won first turn the third game. I don't think going first or second would've mattered so much in any of the games. Maybe the last one but the only reason I couldn't table him is that he had a couple units hiding behind a wreck and a tall hill most of the game.

Took first out of a field of 10 with my Eldar. Other armies were 6 Land Raider Blood Angels, Logan Space Wolves, 4 Land Raider Codex Marines, 30 Assault Terminator Shrike Marines, MC Heavy Nids, 4 Land Raider Chaos Marines, Foot Blood Angels, Horde Orks, and White Scars.

2nd place was the 4 Land Raider Codex Marines
3rd was Orks

Round 1 I took a minor loss to the 6 Land Raider Blood Angels, but managed to score 2 bonus points
Round 2 I massacred the MC Nids. By turn 4 he had so few units left that he just called it there(only things I'd lost were 2 Fire Prisms). His dice were terrible, missing 5 of 6 3+ saves and things like that.
Round 3 I massacred the 30 Assault Terminator List. I felt bad because I spent the first 3-4 turns of the game just moving fast to avoid him. Maxed bonus points.

Farseer, SS, RoWarding, Bike, Doom, Fortune
8 Warlocks, Bikes, 6 Destructor, Enhance Embolden

5 Dragons in a Starcannon Serpent, Stones
10 Harlequins, 2 Fusion Pistol, Shadowseer, Death Jester, everything that could had kisses

3x 5 Dire Avengers in Starcannon Serpents, Stones
8 Pathfinders

2x Fire Prisms, Stones
5 Reapers, Exarch has ML, Starcannon Serpent with Stones

I had a lot of fun, and used units I never use with Eldar (Harlies, Reapers, Pathfinders).

Trygon with Toxin Sacs

Battle Reports... overall 02W 01L - finished 5th

Round 01 versus Tau - Major Victory (me)

Round 02 versus Space Marines: Massacred (I was)

Round 03 versus Blood Angels: Massacre (Me)

It was a good expeirence over all. I will probably drop a tyrant guard and the zoanthrope as they consistently have performed sub par (except the guard) but with the points saved, I can field another 11 genestealers with a broodlord. I might even drop a trygon prime upgrade or two and deck my 'stealers with scything talons or adrenal glands. I wish I had taken pictures, but I hope this list and results help somewhat for anyone playing or building ' nids.

I had to play Blackmoor in game one. We beat each other to a draw.. I bowed out of the tournament at that point, seeing how I'd be banking on anyone with massacres to lose a game and for myself to pick up two massacres.

I then went to a tournament later in the day. The first game match up's showed tons of favoritism. Good players who went to "other stores" got to play each other. The store regulars got to play little kids.. Ok, thats whatever. We can't move terrain, thats fine as well. A lot of stores do that. Kind of funny that most tables have almost no terrain, should have brought a shooting army.. It was so sparse and we couldn't rearrange what little there was.

But we also can't place objectives. Wait.. WTF?! The judges place 1 objective in the center of each table quarter and 1 in the middle for game one. Informing us that placing them as normal isn't "fair". I see noobs place objectives like this. But anyone that doesn't suck at the game does not place objectives like this. So I have to spread all over the table to hold 4? Nice. Thats not happening. "Well, good players can adapt". Sure, but part of how to win a 5 objective game is placing some of them yourself. Not spreading them to the 4 winds all over the table.

So I then throw my game, handing the parking-lot IG army the massacre so I can go do something enjoyable with my night that doesn't involve arguing with jerkoff's. I figure they have no problem stacking the first round in favor of their regulars, I'll just leave and call it a night.

I'd just like to point this out as an example as to exactly what's wrong with some of the people that show up to tournaments.
