Don't know if this is of relevance for anybody, but the US-headquarter of GW moves to Memphis end of July:
ICv2 wrote:Games Workshop Moves U.S. HQ To Memphis
Published: 05/18/2010 01:21am
Games Workshop is in the process of moving its U.S. headquarters from Maryland to its current manufacturing and distribution center in Memphis, Tennessee, consolidating sales, factory, and operations in one location. “If we have all of our resources in one central location, we will be that much more effective, efficient, and productive,” a GW spokesperson told us. The move will wrap up by July 31st.
Among the activities that the new consolidated headquarters will support is an expansion of the number of company stores in North America.

Memphis is a decent enough city, although rather conservative and prone to flooding. House prices should be quite low for anyone relocating there.

The manager of a local GW became a regional manager. He was a really good
community builder and salesman. Instead of relocating his family to Memphis, he quit.
I think that guy managed to pump several hundred dollars out of me before
he got promoted.

Don't blame him really - here in the UK if I were to be asked to relocate for work I could maybe face travelling a couple of hundred miles to see friends and family and the scale is much smaller. Over in the US, you guys are literally talking hundreds, possibly thousands of miles; a bit too much of a disconnect.

I've heard there is a new position (forget the exact name something like Regional Sales Director) that has to manage four different areas personally. So one week they are in city A, then week two city B and so on. I don't know what they are paying but I don't think I could be away from my family for 75% of the year for a stupid job like Games Workshop. If I got "promoted" to that position I would probably quit too.

A bit off topic but Memphis Tennessee is nowhere near the bottom 50% of poor cities in the U.S. It’s the central U.S.s largest logistics hub and industry and business has grown around the highways, railroads, and airport. It’s a good move on behalf of GW and makes a lot of financial sense.

Most everyone is already there. Not sure what is left to move. And there are now 6 regional manager equivalent positions. Many of the regional managers were not rehired after everyone was laid off in April. There are a couple of guys who have 0 experience that they hired in there too. Basically Tom Kirby kept 2 of his toadies for retail and they kept who they liked.
For instance the guy in charge of training was kept on board even though his massive, millions of dollars training program had a success rate of less than 20%. How did he stay? And he got to make many of the choices.
Some guys got new jobs as trainers for about 50% of the pay and still have to travel ffor 75% of the time. I love GW but until Tom sees the light and fires their recruiter, head of training, and one other guy who used to be in retail I would not recommend anyone to work in retail above the manager level. If you really want to go to the company go to Trade Sales.

I've been to Memphis, TN.
Quite a few times.
It is, for the most part, rather nasty.
But yes, the cost of living is certainly low...
Unless you were talking about Memphis Egypt.
I've no idea about that one...

Positives: Looks like they will have the Memphis Battle Bunker reopened. They may move Gamesday to the SE. We might have Forgeworld stocked in the SE.
Negatives: It's in Memphis.

Good call, that certainly is true. We already had a discussion thread on this topic weeks ago that's run its course. Many of the comments in here are duplicates of those made by other people in the other thread. Aaah now we have another clue to the price increases. We are paying their moving fees as well.
That is fallacious. I believe I addressed this before in the other thread. This HQ move saves GW a ton of money. They own the building in Memphis, a much less expensive area than anywhere in the D.C./Baltimore corridor and they will no longer have to pay rent for the expensive facility in Maryland. Once Memphis was opened it was inevitable that the Maryland HQ would eventually be completely shut down, I'm just glad it took them a while to do it. I'm really going to miss all the nice people I've met and cool opportunities I've had related to having the GW HQ in Maryland for the 21 years I've been in the hobby. I'm also really going to miss always having a US Games Day in Maryland.

Hmm, everyone at the Maryland HQ that I've spoken with about this has told me they own the Memphis facility, so I'm reserving final judgement till I see something substantive. Regardless, it's cheaper to have office space in Tennessee than Maryland, a lot cheaper. Everything related to the cost of living and doing business is more expensive in Maryland than Memphis.

I'm sure this news was released a few months ago to coincide with Kirby flying to the US once a week to kick heads and sort out the mess that GWUS had become.
The battle bunker is in the same building IIRC.
