In The depths of a Tomb World, placing demo charges.

Finally, after long ago announcing my intent to start a fluffy, Necron Hunting Imperial Guard army, I've actually manged to assemble a basic force. Pictures will follow when i figure out now to a.) Stop taking blury pictures, and b.) figure out how to get them off the camera and onto this here interwebs.

until then here's my fluff thus far and a list of the models i have assembled.

Ferosian 1st Tomb Raiders: "The Lady's Own."

Inquisitorial Support Regiment (Combined Arms)

Overview

The planet Ferosia is located in the Imperium's galactic south, remarkable as a shrine world with outstanding natural beauty, a place where a Living Saint is said to have fallen during a past crusade. It us rumored that it's ruling family is directly descended from that holy woman and thousands of pilgrims from across Imperial space travel to walk the surface of this beautiful world.

Reluctant to defile the holy soil of their own planet, most of Feroisa's production and resource gathering operations are actually located on the other worlds in the system, planets were the quality of life is harsher, uglier, and far shorter. These colonies sent back a steady stream of mineral wealth to their home planet as well as being a potential hotbed of recruits for the Imperial Guard.

That ended with the coming of the Nercons.

Hidden beneath the surface of the outermost planet of Ferosia X lay a Necron Tomb, filled with uncountable ranks of gleaming metal figures that had lain untouched for millenia, as soon as the Imperial mining teams breached the walls of this massive complex, every single necron awoke.

What followed was the bloodiest war the sector had ever seen, millions of pilgrims, citizens, and guardsmen died on the outer colonies and the Sectors PDF regiments were slowly forced back, Planet by Planet, until only the Shrine-World still bore life.

Fortunately for Feroisa, they had just managed to muster thirteen Imperial Guard Regiments to aid the Caidian sector in the wake of Abbadon's 13th Black Crusade, and had gathered in the Planet's capital for a final parade before boarding their troop ships when the attack hit. Amongst their number were Infantry regiments, Mechanized, Armored, Stormtrooper, and even a squadron of Four Baneblade super-heavy tanks, enough military might to launch and win a crusade. It wouldn't be enough.

Brutal fighting broke out between the soulless invaders and the newly mustered troops, the raw recruits forced to learn the horrors of battle
far sooner than they expected, and it was their inexperience that caused so many casualties.

by the time the horde had reached the walls of the Capital, only a tiny part of that original number remained, no regiment was spared from horrible losses, and the different command structures that quickly fell to the attackers.

in short, the men of the guard were leaderless, confused, surrounded and doomed.

But something good had come out of that brutal crucible of bloodshed. With so few men to call on, and facing a foe that excelled at simple wars of attrition, The Ferosian regiments became experts of combined arms tactics, raids, mobile skirmish lines, ambushes, and using the strengths of each unit to cover the weaknesses of others, trying their hardest to avoid unnecessary loss of life.

That bought them another three months, then, an Imperial fleet arrived in orbit, led by an Inquisitor who had once called this planet home.

Inquisitor Liara Croft of the Ordos Xenos, had arrived in the system while in pursuit of an Eldar fleet, but upon seeing the turmoil of the planet below, reevaluated her priorities and committed her fleet into the defense of her home world, buying enough time for her to gather the survivors and evacuate them, reforming the Imperial Guard into a single regiment under her direct command.

With the planet lost to the alien, Croft was forced to carry out Exterminatus, leaving her and her new regiment with no home and a burning desire for vengeance

Thus the Ferosian First Tomb Raiders were born.

Uniform.

Classified by the order of the Inquisition.
(I haven't decided on one yet. any suggestions would be welcome)

It's possible my subconscious had something like this in mind, before i settled on Iron Warriors for my first army, way back in 3rd edition , i dabbled in several different armies, never buying much before banishing them to the box under my bed. now they may actually see the table!

I like the necron heads on the LR and sentinel.
But the powerfist looks too big for the CC.
What model is the inquisitor?

The inquisitor is a Death Hunter Lady justice from Wyrd miniatures, a little taller than 28mm, but i like it, makes her stand out.

As for the commander, again, it;s to make him different from the other officer, who's picture will follow later.

Agreed. Fluff-wise, it'll really drive home the fact that these humans don't find the Necron's death visage all that scary.

looks like i'll have to buy a squad or two of necron warriors.

Painting delayed until the arrival of my Necron bits, so here's some fluff about some characters within the regiment, from the Journal of the Inquisitor herself.

+++ Pesonal Log Entry 15423+++
+++Classified To Omega Clearance+++
+++Subject: Officers, Commanding Ferosian 1st++++
+++Thought for the day: The traitor's hand may lay Closer than you think+++

Colonel Jason Coral.

The Regiment's Commanding officer when needed, otherwise leads the infantry division. Known as "Old 'armless" by the lower ranks, I understand this is due to the injury he sustained while assisting with the defense of Feroisa's Capital before The Fall. Apparently a trio of necron constructs Classified as Tomb Spyders manged to undermine the city and emerge within the security cordon of the command post, and a great many officers were killed inducing the Lord General Zeith.

Coral (then only a cpatain) lost his left arm to the machines but manged to disable one with his bolter before allowing the wound to overcome him. A young medic, (Captain Mary Wilson, at that time serving with the Ferosian 5th mechanized) saved his life earned the Order of Feroisa (First Class) in that action, carrying her captain to safety and treating his injury even as the rest of the General's bodyguards engaged the rest of the creatures. Unfortunately, she did not survive the evacuation, and was KIA while trying to save a trooper from within an overturned Leman Russ. Coral has her name tattooed on his chest, where his bionic arm meets his flesh, lest he forget.

Major Veronica Temper, AKA "VT"

An unusual choice for a command role, especially of the regiments complement of armored vehicles, if only due to the fact she was not recruited into any of the regiments founded on the day of the Fall, instead, she was an Underhive boss on one of the outer planets, swept to the Homeworld during the retreat to the Shrine world and found work as a sponson gunner on one the battle tanks when the desperate need for solders overcame the officer's mistrust of one obviously unaccustomed to discipline, at least, any discipline not enforced with a blunt object.

Fortunately the fears of her superiors were unfounded as Temper proved herself capable and was soon commanding her own battle tank during the ill-fated raids on the Necron's Warp-Portal, then took command of the Baneblade "Thor" after it's original commander was forced to abandon it when the Demon leading the horde nearly tore the super-heavy in half. Temper managed to both drive back the creature, and bring the noble machine to the evac point. I must say, having met the woman myself, I'm not surprised she proved to be such an accomplished armored commander. I'm pretty sure she's part Tank.

The Baneblade she rescued became her company command tank, renamed to "Heavy Metal Queen" (Much to the horror of the tech priests) and uses systems of loud-hailers designed to allow the commander to encourage and inspire the men around her with religious quotes and hymns to instead blares the jarring music she favors. For some reason, the effect is the same. Commissar Volk disapproves, but she has agreed to let matters stand for now.

Commissar Natasha Volk

The regiment's political officer. A Valhallan woman by birth, so those summoned to her office expects frost to form on their uniform within a short period of entering. Originally assigned to the all female Ferosain 5th Mechanized, she was the only Commissar to survive the conflict and thus the logical choice to oversee discipline and morale issues with the regiment, especially since it is now a mixed gender unit.
Unlike many political officers, she is well-liked by the lower ranks, possibly due to her genuine concern for the troopers around her, or perhaps the influence of her mentor the Renowned hero Caiphias Cain, who she once admitted as to being her inspiration. Personally having been privy to the memoirs penned by the man himself and archived by a fellow inquisitor, I felt it best she remained ignorant of his true nature.

Actually, fluffwise displaying Necron bodies as trophies of war is 100% impossible as they phase out.

I thought of that too, perhaps the "trophies" are made from Human materials, to represent their kills and hatred of Necrons.

That would work fine. It'd make sense that a Guard regiment would want to have iconography displaying their dominance over their foe, even if the remains were hard to come by.

Great fluff although I believe Hasslefree actually makes a Tomb Robber miniature.........Wonder whether that would help? The Executioner strikes me as totally apropriate for a Necron hunting regiment!

Wow, i'd almost forgotten about this, is it necromancy if the OP resurrects it? I'll let the Mods decide that.

My Glorious service in the Imperial guard continues, with another Leman Russ, a Basilisk and a Lord Commisar being added to the force, the Basilisk being found half completed in its box at the bottom of my wardrobe.

it's sudden appearance must have been a gift from the Emperor as i've moved house twice and have never seen it before.... hmm.

Well it'll serve the throne now, i'll get pics up when i can.

Next on my wishlist are:

5 Chimeras (For mechanized goodness.)
1 Vendetta (as the model is awesome.)
1 Heavy weapon squad. (MORE DAKKA!! Well I'm thinking missile launchers but the point still stands)
1 Mandicore (I need more explosions. This seems willing to deliver)
1 Baneblade. (Do i need a reason? The Heavy Metal Queen shall ride forth!)

I'm also considering a foray into the Grey Knights, as the allies rules are no longer around and Miss Croft cannot Lead my Guardsmen into battle (boo!) perhaps as a Deathwatch proxy? what do you guys think?

Anyway, i'll try to keep this updated more after my exams, which are next week, no pressure!

OP's can necro their own blog because it is a work of progess over time.

Nice Find! You can still have codex witchhunters units as allies until they get updated... Or turn your inquisitor into some sort of Officer? You can still use your inqusition stuff with guard in apocalypse. If you want to start a GK army go ahead but running two armies can really hurt the wallet.

Who dosn't want a baneblade? There is just something about massive tanks...

As for the Baneblade, I saw go for it! This hobby is about having fun, isn't it? (Also, the first model I painted for my Vostroyan Army was the Baneblade. If you did it, too, I wouldn't be the only one )

Thanks for the support guys, I appreciate it.

Thus far i've limited the display of Necron Trophies to vehicles, as its easier than trying to add bits to guardsmen, any ideas as to how i can amed that? I'm not exactly confident in my own modeling skills at the moment.

Weapons selected for fighting Necrons makes a degree of sense (plasguns, Meltaguns, Lascannons Missile Launchers, Power Weapons etc). Possibly an understated use of mimicry with lots of bionics?

In The depths of a Tomb World, placing demo charges.

The following is an extract from "Specialized Regiments of the Imperial Guard." by A. Churley

Ferosian 1st Tomb Raiders
Regimental Organization and History

Motto: "Unity is Strength"

Originally, the Ferosian Sector was defended by five dedicated Imperial Guard Regiments named and organized according to the final wishes of their Saint:

The 1st Heavy Rifles (Infantry) Motto: "Stand Firm, Shoot True."
The 2nd Stalwart Guard (Armored, Mixed Gender) Motto: "Armored with Faith, Guided by God."
The 3rd Divine Fists (Artillery) Motto: "His Wrath falls from the Heavens."
The 4th High Guard (Storm Trooper,Mixed Gender) Motto: "Steel against Steel."
The 5th Wandering Warriors(Mechanized, All Female) Motto "We Guard the Path Less Traveled."

Of these regiments, three were tasked with protecting the Shrineworld itself, (The 3rd operated the Anti-orbit weapons and the Capital's wall defenses, the 5th patrolled the roads and pilgrims paths, accompanied by elements of the 2nd.) with the other two being spread throughout the system to bolster the PDF and perform counter-terrorism and anti-piracy operations as well as being the first line of defense against xenos raiders.

When the call came for additional soldiers to be raised to aid the Cadian Sector following the 13th Black Crusade, this roster of regiments was expanded to thirteen, their troops raised from throughout the sector. Intended as an Insult to those who dared defile the Imperial Realm, their names and regimental mottos taken from the Book of Saint Feroisa.

The 6th Knights of Judgement. (Armored) Motto: "We are Judge, Jury and Executioner."
The 7th Daughters of the Phoenix (Airborne, All female.) Motto: "From Flames we come, on Flames we ride."
The 8th Apocalypse (Super-Heavy) Motto: "Where we tread, Mountains Tremble."
The 9th Shepherds of the Lost (Recon) Motto: "The Eyes of the Divine."
The 10th Artificers of Truth (Combat Engineers) Motto: "Duty is it's own Reward."
The 11th Wasteland Guides (Mechanized, mixed Gender) Motto: "The Throne guides our steps."
The 12th Hell-Breakers (Artillery) Motto: "Rend Stone from Stone, till all is dust."
The 13th Storm-Brides (Infantry, all Female) Motto: "We Bring the Whirlwind and Unleash the Thunder."

Unfortunately, none of these regiments would see their intended destination. On the eve of their departure, the Sector came under-attack from an Unknown Force-
+++++++++++++++++++SECTION REFERRING TO THE "HEAVEN'S FALL" INCIDENT CLASSIFIED BY ORDER OF THE INQUISITION. VERMILION CLEARANCE REQUIRED+++++++++++++

In the aftermath, the survivors were united under a single command structure, with elements from similar regiments banded together to form Company strength units, which despite casualties, proved to be vastly larger than the norm. Instead of relying on this bloated and unwieldy structure, Inquisitor Croft would instead from Battle-groups as required, consisting of forces required for the mission at hand, acting like inter-regimental task-forces used during large Imperial Operations on a smaller scale, while allowing the troopers the reassurance of a familiar organization. This even went so far as for each company to adopt the motto of the regiment that they shared a numerical designation with, helping maintain morale considerably.

The Feroisan 1st Tomb Raiders, as they came to be known, would use the experience gained during The Fall to great effect against their preferred foes, and would replace their losses from other units that had also faced their foe, or those units that had slipped through the cracks of the beaurocracy, ensuring that their numbers remained constant.
