Is this a disruption to the linear nature of our perception of time, or just Rackham trying to pretend that their most recent foul-ups never happened? Perhaps they'll start releasing metal miniatures again, with those %*&#+! tiny little rulebooks. Oh, my achin' head...

Rackham is still in operation. Wow. These days the only sign of them I see is their plastic stuff in the discount bins at local stores. It'd be cool if they made metals again as I'm short a few things for my mid-nor collection.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

The first rule of "Project Groundhog" is that we don't talk about "Project Groundhog"..........

For some reason this pops into my head when reading this.

Should have been called "Project Flip-Flop".

Too little too late? *shrug* who knows? Lots of very vocal disenfranchised folk would pretty much wish doom on them for their disregard of the skirmish game. Many others would love to see it brought back.

Like rackham, I bet their die hard fans would have trouble making up their minds.

I wish them well with it though.

Lots of incorrect speculation in this thread.

It's NOT a new edition of the game.

It's only a skirmish rule set for the current models.

Think Mordheim/WHFB Skirmish in Aarklash.

Waste of my time and money, no thank you sir. Besides Im better served elsewere with great minis and games and zero crap towards fans.
8 or 9 years ago Rackham had edge... today even if they got back to their artistic metals they would be just another one on the miniature world... Today theres sooooo much more superb miniature companies outhere with NO bad history that they deserve my money much more.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I got into confrontation because of th no brainer deals allowing a fully painted 'Empire' army for the cost of a box of Blood Knights.

Never playd ther old game, and only have one old miniatures a Pythia, which was bought as a High Elf mage. From what I read in thr booklet I didnt liike Confrontation all that much.

Now its a fairly workable system, just with a lot of jilted fan baggage.

I wonder how many other people tried it out from the current edition only based on getting cheap armies and just seeing what happened.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

For the conforntation game? Heck no.

But I have a ton of the old metals we use in our D&D game, and my DM loves these models for our game. I'd pick up a couple again just for that.

cant trust them for rules/game, but metal minis last alot longer and are better used for other things.

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

Two updates on what is now called "Aarklash Warpack":

http://studio.rackham-e.com/en/content/aarklash-warpack

Aarklash Warpack
11 Jun 2010

What do you mean “What’s this “Aarklash Warpack?”?” What exactly were you doing last week? Did you read anything at all? That’s the official and final name of the famous Project Groundhog!
Ok, right, all of you remember what Aarklash Warpack is now?

We have two more sneak peeks this week. One has no use whatsoever but lots of people will dig it; the other has a lot of use but no one will be able to use it for now. Unless of course they’re the gaming equivalent of Sherlock Holmes, able to deduce the way our little wonder works from the tiniest clue. The thing that has a lot of use is the game card prototype and since I’m a sadist, I’ll start with the logo test sheet, because you won’t be able to do much with it aside from organizing bets on “which one will they choose to use?”. In any case, we’re interested in your opinion (but we’ll only listen to it if it’s positive: we remain human after all, all too human…) ^_^

Ain’t that sweet?

Now that we’ve satisfied your eyes, those of you not spending their salary or pocket money on useless bets – useless for anyone except their bookmaker of course – will have the opportunity to behold this week’s bravura: a card prototype from the game. Before observing it avidly, keep in mind that the most important word in “card prototype from the game” is and remains “prototype”. This is not the game as it will be sold, although we hope to be as close to that as possible.
For example, we’re pretty sure we want other pictures to illustrate the cards. And of course, during the test phase, you’ll have the opportunity to tell us what you think of the pictograms, their organization or anything else.

Well, that’s all for this week. Don’t expect me to give away the nature of these little cards with footsteps, the meaning of these numerous swords, or the reason there are things on the up and down sides of the card. Think I’m a noob? If I told you everything now, I wouldn’t have anything left for next week. And that would be a shame, don’t you think? Not even mentioning my sadistic side, which would be frustrated knowing that you’re not on tenterhooks. Don’t hesitate to tell us about your hypotheses, doubts or anything that comes to mind though. We worked hard to achieve pictograms we think clear and intuitive to use, but one can always do better. All persons sending us the rules of our game within next week will receive a job offer in due form. Nah, just kidding!

So, here’s the card. With pictograms, a picture and many more mysteries. Waiting one more week is tough, don’t you think? Mwahahahaha! Am I fiendish or what?

Aarklash Warpack: Whatwebeplayin'?
18 Jun 2010

We chitchat but in the end, no one told you what armies would be ready for the field test of our brand new game system.
Let's start at once by killing a rumor which spreads out like plague in a middle age city. No dwarf nor devourer, no cynwall elves nor cadwallon mercenaries. You want to know why? Because we've gone fully painted plastic because we want an EASY ACCESS and USER FRIENDLY product! I shout because there might be some people with cotton in their ears who might keep asking when they will be able to take their metal minis, you know, the ones they pinned, glued and painted with love and patience and then put on the highest shelf of the cupboard to protect their treasure from the youngest ones I mentioned before.
I let my 1 year old girl play with a Mid Nor dwarf. You don't wanna see the result, believe me. As if Mid Nor dwarves needed to look even more like crap!
Aarklash Warpack is made for a younger audience or gamers who lack a lot of time. Not for modelling lovers who must have plenty of time in their hand. Anyway, considering the price of lead and tin metals nowadays, we sold our stock to a famous scrap dealer.

What was I saying already?
Which armies?
Let's start with armies of Light and their most famous ambassador… The Lion! Never released before troops, emblematic incarnates, the best heavy cavalry of Aarklash (Gosh, I hope you didn't figure it all out yet…). Forces of Light at their utmost strength, with a gameplay based on movement and strategy. Well, brutal strategy, but that has to count, right?

That's one. As I've been keeping you in the blur for almost two months in a row now, you already know there will be three armies for starter. You are also aware I'm a sadistic person who likes to drop information little by little.
If the plan comes together correctly, you should have developed sleep disorder, 2 ulcers and at least one heart attack just because of the suspens we built along the weeks. You reasonably expect that I won't unveil what the other two armies are here.
Dang. Missed again. We're even weirder and sadistic than you thought.

The second army, inevitably, is Lion's nemesis: Ram.
A slow one, but beware of getting in range of these reanimated corpses. Those who're not yet at range won't fare much better, considering the overpowered wizards Acheron loves so bad! Although for the moment, we don't plan on new releases but variations on already existing ones…

The last army… I won't say anything about it, but it's furry and it bites hard. Woooooohooooo!!!

Those posts are way more annoying than anything GW or PP have written combined. After what they did with metal confrontation I expect some sucking up and recognition of prior mistakes. won't be getting any of my money! Have loads of metals and no desire to revisit Rackham what so ever. So they can bite me. So there. bleeeegh!!!

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

Really?

And I thought some forum posts were annoying. Are they now trying to appeal to to some hip teen market by channeling the ghost of a snide early-sixties radio deejay?

Meh. I am not amused.

Seems like it. Maybe even younger than that, because he said they were doing pre-painted plastics since 1-year-olds can't play with metal.

Jeez that card looked like Kiddies Top Trumps for 5 year olds. And the logos looked just the same. Since when did making your games appeal to a throwaway culture that is 5 year olds "toy fashion" . . . it takes the word FAD to the extreme.

However . . . anyone interested in playing proper Confrontation in the UK look up http://www.conf-federation.org.uk/forum/

Also featuring other such games. But all started out in the days when Rackham cared what the people who give them money think . . . Ohwell

I've still got all my minis and rules from 3.5.

Dogs of War is an excellent Campaign game.... ala Mordheim.

I own all the metal CF miniatures I'll ever be able to paint (and I got most of 'em for Peanuts!).

And all my favorite European Sculptors have been freed up to do new Projects (Alkemy, Infinity, etc.)!

Nah; I've gotten my fill from Rackham as far as Confrontation goes.

When does the new edition of AT43 come out? That I could actually sink my teeth into... provided I can play out of the rulebook with my own scenery collection, and not on a tiny poster.

So Tom Cruise was consider a quality action star until he did the couch jumping with Opera. Now he is still hated because of that incident (and others, but you get the point.)

Rackham was considered a great game company that made excellent models until they decided to emulate Tom Cruise.

Now Tom cant get people to watch his movies and Rackham is fast getting to the point where they cant get people to buy their games.

The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude.

I had a few game sof Confrontation back in the day - even member of UK Confed and went to a few tourneys - good fun.

Actually I wished there pre painted stuff had come out earlier as I am rubbish at painting and usually have to pay someone to get good results.

Had a game the other week with my Devourers - loved their Wolfen / Devourer figures and hammered some Elven type.

Tried their last skimrish system - pretty flawed and quite disapointing
