Plummeting Black Templar Thunderhawk Pilot

Recently I've been wanting to field a Vindicator, and already having a vast array of Rhino Chasis and not being able to buy the parts seperately at a good price I thought sod it! I'll make my own. So without further ado, here's my attempt at making my own. The only part which is missing and I will not be including is the front dozer shield.
Yes its only a few simple tweeks compared to the competent modelling, but this is new terratory for me so I'm chuffed at this first triumph.
The mods are:
(1) A turret cannon taken from somewhere like Zoids, which I cut in half at an angle and glued to the front right
(2) Modelled the window shield to fit over the remaining visible window and cut it to fit against the cannon
(3) A Tau drone to serve as a communication point
(4) And last a hatch from the old version of the Rhino glued in place. Although there is a gap all around the edges I think it looks ok. If I find something large to fit there I might swap it.
Well this is my first Vehicle mode conversion thingy, what do you think?

It looks okay... The Tau drone is simply heretical, and still manages to seem out of place. The cannon conversion looks good though.
The one thing you did well was come up with a version of the Vindicator that looks like it doesn't have extra armor. It;s alot less beefy than the normal Vindicator.

The gun looks good.
The Tau drone looks like a Tau drone stuck on the top. I really advise you take it off and put on something more Imperial.
Extra armour can easily be added with Plasticard.

I don't see why the drone is so out of place personally I think the paint job will do wonders to tie it all in together however the dozer blade is kinda iconic to the vindicator at least in my opinion seams a little lacking with out it but other then that it looks great

Thanks for the quick feedback. Personally I like thr Tau drone there, but thats part of the reason for asking for feedback isn't it, I'm naturally Biased
The option I have for that is to either cover it with a few more Imperial Items in an attempt to disguise the Drone piece. I'm sure I have some arials or bitz I can add, maybe even replace the antena altogether.
Will dive into my bitz box again.
My primary reason for not using the dozer was simply because I hate the look of it, and if I used the ones from the old Rhino kit it would look ... odd. Maybe I can convert that as well from the old dozer blades. And will look into plasticard
Cheers all

Gun looks good (although slightly turned to the left? esp in the first pic).
Tau drone looks not so good, because it's instantly recognisable as a part of another army.

Gun if definatly 100% correct, took me ages of fine tun ing to ensure it was clean cut and the correct angle
Currently looking through bitz box for a suitable replacement for the Tau Drone piece. It looked good in my head, but can thankfully see my folly before trying to field it in a game all painted up

Not bad.
Vindicators are one of the easy conversions.
THREE of my four vindis are made from Rhinos and bits of other kits.

Looking good. If you want to de-tau the drone, file the top flat. That way you can keep the tech-looking rim, and then you have room for aerials/smoke launchers/ whatever you have in your bitz box.

Yeah I like it - as mentioned above, only thing I would add is some plasticard just to 'beef' it up a little. Aside from that, looks nice; might be worth sticking it in the tutorial section.

Apologies for the poor focus on these picture, would you believe its a 10mega pixel camera!!!?!?
Anyway, quantity over quality then ... Have removed the drone antena and filled it down flat, added a pintle mounted storm bolter onto the top, then added railings over the top of the tank as well as small ones for the hatch at the top rear, and also a hand rail underneath the window. Also added an antena to the other smaller hatch.
Annoyingly though, the spray doesn't like the plastic the cannon is made from so have gone a little blotchy :(

Bit fuzzy, but I do believe it looks more imperial now. Nice work!

Cannon looks really good. I can't get over it not having the dozer blade though. Just not a vindi without one.

I'd say that's a great result. I don't even have a blade on the front of my old metal bits Vindi yet - guessing it only came with the dozer blade anyways as I don't remember any big meaty siege shield thing.

25% price increase due to 25% extra flash (and 15% less detail)
but remember, games workshop models aren't as expensive as a $600 camera lens, so it's still a cheap hobby |

Nice one. The Storm bolter looks much better than the Tau drone comms array. The only thing I can think of to add is some kind of shell lift thing at the rear. Do you have any spare Techmarine lifting arms?
