Hey all,
I popped in yesterday to http://cutandthrustwargaming.com/ on Old Market, and am planning on becoming a regular once it opens in 3 weeks. It will have, among other things, two floors of gaming tables and a coffee bar. Joy!

Anyone else on Dakka live close enough to drop in for a game? I'm planing on starting a necromunda campaign as soon as possible in there, it'd be nice to know if some other Dakkites are going to be around as well.

The owner is also on Dakka, you can see some of his lovely gaming terrain here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/250932.page

I may well wander in at some point, most likely over a weekend as it's a fair way from Aztec West. If there are any Dakka get togethers planned there then I'll try go get along.

Just wandered past on my way back from town, I was in GW and they suggested popping in for a look as Alex is often to be found working on the place. Unfortunately I think he slunk off to watch the footy as the shutters were down.

If you're in the area, it's on the Temple Meads side of the road. It looks big which is encouraging.

Wanted to say kudos to the GW manager btw, he was very reasonable about the store and saw it as complimentary and not competition. It was good to have a grown up conversation in there.

Funnily enough that's exactly how I came to pop in as well! I mentioned I used napoleonic minis for guard to the GW manager and he immediately recommended I go to cut & thrust and say hi. I'll stop by and thank him sometime.

does seem like there's a few dakkaites nearby, it'd be cool to get some more gaming, it's been a while

I walked past the other day and it's starting to look very promising indeed! I know that the owner Alex has lots of terrain and gaming boards from GW's clearout, and I think the Bristol Vanguard club that use GW currently are going to move their when it opens too.

I can't wait to check it out! I think I may even start playing 40K now (been painting and collecting for 9 years).

Wow, didn't realise there were so many locals here! I'll have to give this a look-at sometime soon.

If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!

I'm now curious as to whether the bloke I chatted to in the park while on break at work on saturday is also on Dakka - I think he's also called Alex, pulled a Blood Angels codex out of his bag when he saw my BL book... you on Dakka Alex?

Glad to see it coming together.

Also worth mentioning that Excelsior Comics is up round the corner of Cribs Causeway from you Alex, another indy store well worth our patronage.

I'll try and stop in after work one day this week, if you're about past 5.30ish.

I think you mean Cabot Circus not Cribs Causway, MGS.

Send me a PM and i'll stay a bit later sometime this week. I'm usually on my way home at 5.30, early starts for deliveries, builders hours, missing the traffic and all that!

I did, I always get them muddled up.

I'll PM you so I can stop by, keen to see what's happening.

Bristol Vanguard will be moving into Alex's store in a few weeks time and we already have a necromunda campaign that has just started.

www.bristolvanguard.co.uk

We have been kicked out of the GW store due to standardised hours. We will still be running on Thursday nights.

I'm planning to get down there every so often, at least on Thursday nights. Will be interesting to see what the prices are like, since it's close enough that a decent discount might edge out Maelstrom as my preferred toy soldier shop.

The plan is to take over the world soon and support as many systems as possible but sadly finances won't allow that just yet.
I'm not gonna be stocking FOW immediately but you are more than welcome to come in and play it, i've heard good things and need to give it a go myself.
I'm trying gauge the interest levels of the different systems before I sink tonnes of money into one that not too many people are actually playing or collecting.

That's good to hear. I'll try my best to compete with some of those big guys. We may need a secret handshake or code though.

Yeah, I need a good excuse to finish modelling and painting my Redemptionist gang, i'm probably gonna be too busy making terrain though.
Getting 24 tables up to scratch is taking it's toll on personal hobby time! Looks like i'll be dusting off one of my old gangs.

My current digs are at the Ibis just across the river. Probably there for a couple of weeks, then need to find somewhere proper!

I'll be sure to pop in sometime, though it'll depend on when I'm working. Be nice to have somewhere else hobby related that's not work, better to meet people and have a laugh!

As Alex says, there's surely enough room for more than 1 campaign I was thinking something less organised than the BVG setup (I've been looking at the forum page for it, pretty long!), not least because I work thursday nights. I'll probably just keep track of what's going on through this forum. Standard 2nd Ed Necro gang setups, then rules by agreement in-game as in if you have some sustained fire dice, and both you and your oppo would rather use 'em, go for it.

Not to say that it's not like that with Vanguard anyway, but it'll be a while before I can get to know the dudes running the BVG campaign due to my working hours (1230-2100 every weekday 'cept wednesday) and see how easy it'll be to integrate. Since I had a similar idea for my campaign setting, Old Market, there's plenty of parallels I've already seen, we could even have a clash of neighborhoods down the line.

So many options!

Crikey that's a lot of work! I've found my somali pirates, if I have the moral courage to use them: http://www.theassaultgroup.co.uk/store/home.php?cat=45 But I might use some of my old mixed-up gangers in the meantime, like everyone else.
It looks like we've got half a dozen potential players, that's good enough for me. Dust off your eschers meangreen!

Was passing by this lunchtime and took a look around. Unfortunately Alex was out so didn't get to meet him but the shop it's self is very impressive.

2 floors of gaming tables, painting stations etc.

I do hope he'll have the windows open and some ceiling fans or something put in there though, was fairly warm on the upper floors. The thought of many gamers there (and there will be that one.. the one who's a stranger to shower gel) might make things a bit aromatic.

No, the builders let me in to have a brief look around, since Alex was due back at any time. Unfortunately he was delayed so I had to get back to the office.

Opening in a couple of weeks I think.

Fantastic stuff, I noticed the shop only this morning on my drive into work. Thanks to MGS for PMing me the details!

I will certainly be making a visit once the doors open, Bristol has lacked an indie FLGS presence for quite some time now, geting a central store dedicated to tabletop wargames is a huge boost for local wargamers.

Good luck with the opening Alex, I'll be sending you a quick PM you might find useful!!!

Popped back up there this evening and was able to meet with Alex and take a guided tour.

It's a fantastic property with a massive potential, the two floors of gaming tables are excellent, plenty of room and most importantly, Alex is a sound bloke.

Talking over his ideas for the business, I think this has tremendous potential to bring us ,here in Bristol, a hub. A centre not only to bring our mates to and game, but also to meet new players (and some mates from dakka) and establish a community.

The place is just begging for some tourneys to be organised, I'd personally love to see some Warmachine, Infinity, Malifaux and the GW specialist games brought in.

And I can confirm now that that is his genuine feelings. I brought it up over lunch upstairs whilst the shop was locked up, and he said basically the same thing, thinks it's a good thing.

I know the dude running GW these days is a really sound guy, but it's still limited, and therefore not the FLGS we all want in Brizzle.

Inevitably, someone's going to ask this, so... I have a 40k IG army of sorts, who's up for a friendly 500pt game when this place opens?

And although I can't speak for the other games, Specialist Games-wise I'm looking forward to some Necromunda and have a Mordheim warband kicking around somewhere...
