I've fethed up myself for this kind of projects! I once did a Space Marine army in 14 days, it was orange brown + ghostly grey, with edge HLs and super neat BLining and had painted insignia. The brown alone took 6-8 ayers for a smooth finish. Now I am a bitchin punk who can't pait a tactical squad with an easier scheme in 14 days, because TWAR robots are so much fun and Jade Vessel has been a revelation...or is that revolution.

ANYWAY - Nearly done with the pictured wip lot - just the bases left. The Apothecary and Captain came out real nice, while the whole lot is a clear improvement to older marines, yet fit right in. Main changes are colder gold and better wear and tear as learned from TWAR project.

This group has after all become is a big lift to the project. I wasn't toatally happy with the old marines and was worried how the changed things would fit in. And it was such a boring thing to paint after Jade Vessel stuff, but then the sense of achievement is ten fold. The new dex and the new models + finally getting to do tanks should result into much more Crescent Guard.

Pics tomorrow.

I absolutely positively need scouts like that! Those look exactly like scouts should.

Not like small marines, but like big humans!

Catachan arms on cadian bodies looks great, and the GS work gives them that little extra. These scouts someone might actually take seriously!

Migs, could you make something ugly soon, to boost the morale of the rest of us, who are only mortal?

Jk, good work on this army, nicely done.

Very nice. I really like your take on these guys. The white looks great with all of the weathering.

The light on the apothacary looks like it could use a bit of work. The flat yellow isn't really coming across well in the photos like it does for your TWAR. It might just be the style of the light isn't lending itself to the method.

The leaders face seems a bit flat in contrast to what I've seen you do with skin tones in the past. I do however love the scar.

The sword looks magnificent. Very nice take on the power weapon you've got here. It's nice to see techniques from your other projects bleed over into other ones ^_^.

Very nice work on these guys.
The palette works very well and i love the blue cloth. The green on the helmet-eyes is also a good choice. I like that alot better than the red.

I agree with grey_death on the sword as well. Keeping it rather "simple" looking, but still, well special. Good job.
Very nice.

Thanks guys.

The blade is a relic sword - I've always liked the DA fluff of making their special swords of a black meteor and wanted something like this here. It also stands out from power weapons and force swords elsewhere in the army.

The face is flatter and slightly paler than the previous marines have. I want to be more austere with this army. I contrasted this with very dark "eyeliner" which works well. The scarred side has a yellow bionic eye that lends a slight glow to the skin around it.

Agreed on the yellow light, tricky when the base color in the scheme is as light as you can go, so I have less options to make it really click than with TWAR, where I think it works quite well.

And here's the list I am building towards! Mostly units I have with some tweaks for fifth (like heavy flamers instead of assault cannons for tornados) and building that Iron Clad dread, which is a concept I really love.

As I understand it, the Drop pod assault lets you drop with half your pods on turn one, so I can really be quite tactical with this setup, mostly dropping with the three dreads in a very refused setup and with their own "cover" of course!

Then beginning turn two come the infantry to take objects, engage the enemy, and speeders to fry and contest. Tactical squads split when playing the 4 object game and scouts lurk when playing objects/annoy the hell out of the enemy.

I think it's quite nicely themed, yet has potential to go all the way when I learn to use it properly. What do you guys think?

Very nice work Migs. As I´ve stated before, these crescent guard guys look great.

And what´s better, they look like marines should look, big, mean and in control.

Not sure if that´s the biggerizing, the paint or a combo, but they really do look great.

Are you still using vallejo for your bases?

As far as the list goes, it does look like it´ll be fun to play, but I´m not much of a beardie, so I´ve no idea as for how it would be for a tournament.

Thanks my friend! I try hard to match how the Marines are portrayed in the art work, so it's probably a combination of things. I really need to take some comparison shots to normal marines.

Yes, still using Vallejo for bases and just diluted layers on white, no drybrushing.

The blog returns to dakka - as I returnt o these marines. It's really cool to see just how much more active the Dakka Blgs have become.

The real upside with friends being that they can talk some sense to you - I realised that Alpharius in the success of his design destroyed things that don't deserve to be treated so. I had another look at this army, and actually, while the biggerising design and overall impact of Alpharius is the first time I've managed to render GW imagery into a miniature in a way I am totally pleased with, this army is ok and I still enjoy the aesthetic and have missed most of 5th ed and the really fun new dex.

Another great thing about friends is gaming and after good games on Sunday, I want to tweak this force a little and find a new, active way of playing the list. This is a list I came up with. All I need to build are the assault termies. Everything else is finished. The assault terminators really click in 5th with their 3+ inv saves against shooting and cc. and:

Shrike gives all infantry fleet! Making this a very flexible and mobile force. It is far from super optimised, yet I feel it can take most opposition, and it's only small weapon etc. tweaks later that will enhance it nicely. I also want to add armor now that the Jackasl are gone. And I want Land Raiders, so I can show Gurk and Hammer How it's done Because friends are also great for trashtalking. You should've seen Hammer have a go at Gurk this sunday

Here's the "new list".

Shrike 195pts

Terminator Librarian, sb, null zone, the avenger, 130pts

Terminator Squad, 1 chainfist, AC 235pts

Terminator Assault Squad, THs 200pts

dreadnought, ac, 105pts

10 Tactical marines, flamer, missile launcher, power fist 205pts

10 Tactical marines, meltagun, missile launcher, power fist 210pts

5 scouts, HB 85pts

assault squad, flamer, thunderH 140pts

tornado ac 90pts

landspeeder 50pts

-105pts available of 1750pts

ps.

I found an old comparison pic of the captain. The mutant is slightly taller than vanilla GW marine. So while these guys aren't Legion beefed, they are biggerised it seems

Now, if I remember correctly, Migs, you didn't have any vehicles for the Crescent Guard, right? I'm interested to see how you biggerize some Terminators. Do you plan on biggerizing the Dreadnoughts and Landspeeders, too?

Thanks for the comments lads!

I do have done some dreads and speeders (both non biggerised) and termies too (slightly biggerised and Librarian properly so as I was disappointed with the first tries).

I do want to add some vehicles! But intend to keep them standard size as this project needs to be a nice gaming side track, while I go to adventures with the Legion, or just have fun with the TWAR

this is the original termies:
