The return of White Marines concedes with the retunrn of the Scarab Eldar. CLearly the xenos filth needs to be cleansed and the forces of the Imperium ready for war.

For the longest of times I wanted an "eternity" project, an army I could add to through the years and a few years ago, and as some of you know with the release of the 4th ed rule book I was struck by the amazing new marine art work in the book and wanted to emulate them.

The Crescent Guard (initially the Steel Eagles) were born.

(EDIT) I added some pics for those not familiar with project (EDIT)

As I've recently revisited some wip stuff for Apocalypse and started a new Captain conversion I decided a "blog" of sorts would be nice. Even if very rarely updated.

The Crescent Guard are a some what secretive Raven Guard successor chapter (some contradicting records mistakenly profile the chapter as Ultramarine successors), that specialise in devastating surgical strikes to vital enemy pressure points and much like their original legion, excel in rapid shock warfare. During the Great Crusade, the Raven Guard conquered countless worlds thought impregnable, by the precise application of force at an enemy's weakest point. The Crescent Guard have admirably honed those traits to suit their own, highly creative doctrine that stems from the teachings of Epistolary Vernux. Vernux was a close advisor of Primarch Corax during the tumultuous times following the Heresy, a great warrior mystic and the first master of the new chapter after its split from Raven Guard.

Here's the new captain, sans a healthy dose of purity seals:
Do you think two servoskulls would make him too busy???

Wow, this snuck by me! I love the captain. For me, one servo us enough. though the second one is very well done.

Looks like you have some barrels to drill out. Keep us "posted".

I love the pose ... and am especially taken by the "mini-shield" on the pad.

I would advise against the second skull .. he has a certain elegance that might be lost.

Migs do you have a better shot of the legs?

I don't know if its the angle but it seems really odd to me. From the knee up this is great but below the knee just doesn't work for me.

The shin seems far too small compared to the thickness of the knee pad. I'd bulk out the lower leg a little.

Yup,  two would be too busy. Need to leave the second servo for a retinue member.

I agree with the lower legs ideally needing some bulk, but that would be the case for my entire army, so I think I'll leave him as is. It's not so bad from other angles. Maybe one day I sculpt and print my own marines and try and get everything right...as even with the slight biggerising and whatnot the basic design is really flawed.

Thanks for the comments guys! I will keep you "posted".

Looks good. also looked at the other pics.. how the heck do you keep your desk so clean? I got junk all over and every time I clean it it seems like the clutter just magically reappears.

I really like the subtle details.  The top half of the legs and the small shield (which i missed the first time i looked at him until I started reading comments!).  Are those chaos warrior legs?  I'd love to do up a skirmish squad with that style.  Tribute Squad to the Migsmiester.

Yes Grey_D, Chaos Warrior legs indeed

Necros - the Desk is new and was purchased on the day the photo was taken - that partly explains it, but then again, I am very organised outside of my overly imaginative head.

@ Melted bitz - Ahhhhhhhhhhhaha! Brutal man, though also impressively melted!

Capt looks solid, and good call on the 1 servo. Happy to see him with a combi-flamer too, fan of that myself, pod or not. The 'doghouse' chaos warrior legs work nicely on a 1-off leader like this lad, but I'm hoping you don't repeat it much across the army - and it doesn't look like you will, from the WIP pics. There's really something to the look of marines in good old power armor, that biggerizing with chaos warrior legs kinda messes with.

Keep 'em coming, I'm in.

As I am reunited with my models, I am also adding some new marines for a more viable 5th ed list.

My fave Oldskool "errant" helmet, one per each BT sprue, faced a transportation accident a year ago when my love brought me some bitz and glue in the same bag. I've noticed many people think the helmet variant is butt ugly and as I have a few more marines in the works, I would really love to get one, or even a few if possible. I can pay/trade for it/them.

Please help a SM junkie out!

As these guys are also getting ready for 5th, I decided to share some process. I reworked the Captains collar to a tighter fitting DIY one and am now 99% happy with him!! The biggerising process had left his collar shields very wide and it was really nagging me, as other wise this captain was just the image I wanted to lead my company.

I am bumping my two tac squads to ten each and adding to the command squad so I will have a 5 man command squad for the Captain and two full tac squads, 6 Assault Marines (7, because of two different sgts!), 6 scouts and 5 termies, 2 librarians, techmarine and a chaplain w. jpack. I want to add more tactical marines later and do real drop pods to replace my dropping warp portals and TANKS!

ah! Fantastic. Love the look of these guys. What did you use for scratches on the marine armour: ink washes?

I must be catching up: why the sandwich of white plastic in the body? And do the legs have plasticard extensions to them?

If I remember correctly Mig's started the project around the first big True Scale push and his models look much like Elusive71's (I think that right?? Please correct me if I am wrong). The plasicard in the middle of the chest helps bulk out the torso as is often depicted in the GW artwork.

I did a variation on these guys and I know both Elusive and Migsula were huge inspirations.

Thanks,
Chappy P!

Yes, the extra plasticard (together with pose changes etc.) is to make the minis more reflective of the scale of Space Marines in relation to IG and other races. My Marines have extra height in legs and waist and beefed up torsos. As a result they are about a head taller to normal marines and much more imposing looking

I use paint to do the scratching. Different shades of gray.

awesome! I imagine that's a pretty tough thing to do: smoothing off the joins etc. How do you get such a smooth finish?

I really love this thread. I think it is great that you are making conversions for each of the marines. It really brings out the individuality of the marines...and as the Elite of the Emperium, I think this is great. I even try and do this with my army, but not as well as you do.

Great Job!

It's very easy actually, the hardest part is to glue the legs so they remain in line, then its just cutting off the excess in this order: side cutters, modeling knife and fine file.

How do you keep the slope on the leg? Doesn't the plasticard create a stepped section? Do you add green stuff?>

Great looking Marines!
Really nice to see white Astartes looking so good. And that you've done proper weathering to them.
I keep trying to paint chipped metal but find it looks too much like brush strokes atm.

You say you used grey streaks on the armour for wear?
And metal on the edges presumably (looks like it on the knee of the bottom right marine in the pic above).

Again fantastic work man, keep it up!

yes, just greys for streaks, and a fine brush and reference images on how it actually should look.

The scouts are Cadian parts, Tau back packs, Catachan heavy wep bits, SM parts and plenty of GS.
