This is funkadelic - I always wanted to make a board like this. I may have to go on a plagiarism-spree!

that sentinel thing is great. love the idea of the burning furnace too. of course, all those nice flames and stuff would be of no use if there wasn't a walkway leading right over it

altough, I find it a bit boring that you only use an Eisenhorn model as your statue. shouldn't that be more some JUdge Dredd kinda guy?

How to make Outlanders-style Barricades w/ CoD sprue & Scraps in 5 minutes

Tutorial time!

Have you ever wanted to replicate those great little cardboard barricades from the Necromunda:Outlanders boxed set? How about if it only took ~5 minutes?

What you'll need:
-CoD Wall Sprues
-Plasticard scraps, gubbinz, interesting bitz, etc.
-Xacto Knife
-Sanding file or Nile file
-Plastic glue, Plastic Weld, and/or CA glue

Here's how:

1. Snip out the close parallel sprue in the middle of most of the CoD terrain sprues. Cut down and sand of any flash. I like to keep the injection pins attached to the sprue to provide structural integrity (and because I'm lazy) but you can get rid of them. Be sure to keep the slight angle in the sprue - DO NOT SAND IT TO A 90 degree ANGLE! When you're done it should look like this:

2. Gather up your various plasticard scraps and bitz:

3. Starting on one side, glue down your scraps until the sprue base. It's a good idea to have a certain general height in mind when assembling. Mine are about waist height on a typical 28mm GW mini.

4. You can alternate different plasticard pieces, bitz, and textures to make it more convincing.

5. When you have both side assembled, you'll notice that they slope gradually inward - just like the Outlanders kind! Like this:

6. Using another scrap of plasticard, fill in the gap between the sides:

7. That's it! Feel free to embellish your barricade w/ rivets, spikes, whatever

ooooooooo so many ideas. I'm currently planning a board in a similar style to this but in a cave type thing with a chapel above ground. Where are the runabouts tracks from? think i may base my AD Mech sentinals on this..... always loved the sentinal cockpit, tried to use it as a base for a mini hovercraft once.......

Wow that's slick! I am definitely going to be chopping up my sprues for that. I knew I was saving the stack for something...
I gotta say, while I am not terribly interested in spending lots of time scratch building terrain, I keep popping back to get ideas, for this thread has been tremendous for them, even if most get filed under "In Case of Obsession".

Great models. You have a great knack for creating industrial type steam punk terrain pieces! You're work gives me some inspiration to construct some industrial pieces for my cod table. Also, what do you use as a base for your terrain pieces? It looks like 3/8" MDF/masonite board.

Damn, you're good with terrain. I particularly like the attention to detail- you're looking beyond functionality, which is admirable considering the ridiculous amount of terrain that you're working on simultaneously.

Can't wait to see that furnace painted up.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Thanks everyone, it a great boost to my confidence hearing all the replies.

Please know that there is a BIG update coming very soon. I'm attempting to finish every single piece (with the exception of the Forge) you've seen so far so I have terrain for an upcoming Necromunda campaign I'll be running, starting on the 25th. So far every piece has been based, primed and undercoated. I'm nearly finished painted the Chapel and installing LEDs.

Anung - the Furnace/Forge is coming along nicely. The interior of the first floor is painted and I've already built the giant smokestack. I'll soon be working on the second floor, exterior, and roof.

Verm - the bases are .125/.118 thick plasticard

as long as the models can somehow fall into the furnace. I don't know how, maybe a trapdoor but a rusty bridge, but I think it would be a shame to deny the players in your campaign the oportunity to die in flaming agony caused by your terrain

One down, four to go. I stayed up until 1am this morning to finish, knowing I'd have to wake up before 7 to get to work today (and, of course, our CEO didn't even show up!). Hope you all enjoy, it was a blast to finish this off.

Gorgeous, man. I think the red between the exterior stonework looks a little bright (could maybe use a quick wash - or maybe it's just the light), but it looks great!

Initially when I started this project, I just wanted to make enough to fill this table...

BUT, I'm STILL going - and this doesn't include all the tiny extra stuff: barricades, crate pallets, loot counters, etc!!!!

So what do I have planned?
-an Arbites Precinct House (this will be inspired primarily by the oppressive "Ministry" buildings in Terry Gilliam's Brazil)
-a large Cathedral-like structure (using the Pegasus Gothic Building set)
-maybe a Hab-block (again inspired by Brazil and Blade Runner)
-and, lastly, a tavern/pub/drinking hole (unfortunately, I have no good inspiration pics for this - care to help a brother out? Post a few pics to inspire me here...)

Stay tuned!
