First off, the Baneblade is *very* fairly priced at $95 USD and discounted 20$ down to <$75 USD. You cannot get a comparably-sized scale model kit for much less than that. And that includes the Russians and Chinese.
As for the Valkyrie, I've guessed that the magic price point for a Valkyrie is like a Land Raider or Defiler - $55 to $60. At that price, the Valkyrie should sell in Baneblade-like quantities.
If they follow-up with a shared-sprue (cockpit, engine, wings) Vulture, the price point for that model should be $45-$50. It would sell half again as much, but the common sprue makes both profitable.

You know. I watched an episode of "Master Blasters" recently where they sent a Mini Cooper flying. My point? Put enough thrust behind ANYTHING and it'll fly. And I dearly hope they do decide to make a plastic Valkyrie. Might get me off my but to build those elisian drop troops I've always wanted.

Personally I think they should come out with plastic veterans. As it is now you have to either get the forge world ones, or convert your own.

Well, I must be lucky since I collected the right armies (and thus bits) but the forgeworld ones are unimpressive as is. Unless you really want those backpacks, which are similar to the catachan demo charge backpacks anyway, you can make everything yourself. Screaming bald marine heads, Kroot bullet/canisters bandoliers, SM shotguns, and a single pair of greenstuff or heavy weapon sunglasses guy for the goggles. You're better off even buying the 10-man upgrade kit cuz it's cheaper per man and comes with more fun stuff anyway (RESPIRATORS!).
But in the end, they're veterans. Regular guys with some scars or bald heads cuz they lost their hair from a flamethrower.

There are "official" FW IG Veterans? I shudder to think the dollar cost per point fielded...
What about those of us who just paint different insignia / markings to distinguish our Veterans?

Could be worse. It could be a debate about Osprey books.
'Gee, isn't this book about US army cooks of 1857 really accurate?'
'Are you serious?! It's their worst book yet! Even worse than their book on army blacksmiths of the Crimean war!'

Wait, there's an Osprey debate? Like on the internets and stuff? I did not know that. I can't say I know anything about "vortex ring states" either - but I do know that the Osprey has trouble, how you say, "flying"?

Wouldn't that be nice... Orks getting treated like every other army and actually getting a full release for all their choices in the Codex.

Well I personally have the FW ones. But I also converted some using catachan and cadian mixes, such as catachan heads and torsos' and arms. When I eventually buy a digital camera I will post pix. An command sprue with weapon choices would be nice, like a banner, plastic fist, etc.

I just plain use Catachans for my Hardened Veterans.
Fluff-wise, mine'd be better called, "Hardened Criminals."
S'why they don't have a uniform. Also, why they're given the suicidal missions that involve a 5-man squad, with 3 Meltaguns and 1 Sergeant dropping behind enemy lines to shoot their tanks from an inch away.

THe tank sprues would be good. I got sick and tired of telling people my hull lascannon is a hvy bolter cause there is not one in the box.

Er, I seem to remember this little bolter thing in my tank upgrade sprues. It had two boxes of ammo and looked twin-linked. You could have used that.

But that's a Storm Bolter.
There are two things you can do:
1. Use the Heavy Bolter from the sponsons. All you do there is put one HB together, put the Lascannon together, then cut the ends off of each and swap the HB end onto the Lascannon back.
2. Use the metal Heavy Bolters from the Exterminator kit.
3. Use spare Heavy Bolters from the Guard Heavy Weapon sprues, even if they are a bit big.
Seeing as though the 2nd option is no longer available (so glad I did all my Hull HB Russes last year!), then you have to do the first option or the third option.

the baneblade is ridiculously expensive if you're used to collectin' model kits...it's par for the course if you're used to gw prices...
i got mine for 25% off, and i'm satisfied with the price for what i got...i'm just happy i didn't have to breakdown and finally buy the forgeworld one...
as for the topic, i'm stoked with whatever they end up releasin'...at least with plastic kits, ya know what you're gonna get...forgeworld constantly disappoints with the castin' quality...i have so many of their kits layin' around, 'cause i can't be bothered to put in all the prep time to fix the problems...

Out of curiosity, have you actually priced a scale model kit of comparable size? Because if you actually bother to price similarly large model kits, you would find that the Baneblade is actually fairly-priced. Oddly-scaled, and oddly-detailed, but fairly-priced.

@john: "of comparable size", no...i haven't done any historicals in years...i just know that what i see posted around for reasonably priced alternatives are historical tank kits...
i don't even think that the baneblade is reasonably priced...at 25% off i can deal...full retail, no way...
pretty much all the plastic kits from gw are oddly scaled...i like the detail though, and it's what sells to my customers...
cheers

I thought the baneblade's price was ok. Sure it's great to have anything cheaper.. but I feel I got my money's worth. And due to the price I think, it made it more of a "special" thing for me so I ended up putting a lot more time and effort into it to really make it the centerpiece my army needed.. I put about 3 weeks off and on into building and painting it, as opposed to a "regular" tank that would just be a couple of nights.. and not once did I feel burned out or like I had to rush to finish it. It was a fun kit to build so I felt it was well worth the price.
That said, knowing the price and amt of time I spent on it, I doubt I'd build a 2nd one
If they do the valkeryie, I'll prolly get one also for the fun of building & painting but it will most likely be a project like the baneblade and I wouldn't expect to have more than 1. My guard army is more or less done now at least till the new codex makes half of it obsolete, so anything I add to it now is really just for modeling reasons.

The Baneblade worked because it's such a bitchin model and so many armies in the game can use it. This is guard only so I'm not too sure. If Planetfall does come out and they want to add flyers to the game then it has a higher success chance, but it also means they'll need to spread some love to other armies.
They did it with the stompa, why not with the vulture etc.?
