Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

regarding plastic flyers:

"No fething way."

first I've heard of the tank sprues.

I bet they'll do something interesting with guard infantry.

RUMORS: IG Minis in the Works

rumors brought to the community by warseer's: asmodai_dark86

Hi guys, early scuttbutt says that the Imperial Guard are getting some serious loving by the design studio.

We are hearing of things such as:

-Plastic Stormtroopers
-Plastic Greatcoat Guard (with interchangable bits with the current Cadians)
-Plastic turret/accessory tank sprues (say goodbye to the metal Hellhound, and Demolisher kits)

and the real gems:

-Plastic Valkyrie
-Plastic Vulture
-Plastic Thunderbolt (maybe)

~ Yowza, that is some serious IG firepower there, and seem to lend itself to the recent rumblings of possible flyer rules in the 5th edition rulebook....

I'd buy all the Valkyries I could get my hands on. I've always wanted to have an air cav IG army. Vultures are a must too, gunships rule an amazing amount.

Hmmm. Isn't Planetstrike supposed to be on hold right now? It would seem likely that flyers will be held to be released with that.

And plastic greatcoat guard we've been hearing about for forever. I remain extremely unconvinced. Plastic Stormies seem likely, though.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

I can see plastic stormtroopers coming out and possibly the plastic tank kits, but that's about it. I refuse to get my hopes up on long coat guard (I'd prefer Valhallans over Steel Legion/DKoK) as I don't want to be let down. I have my hopes too high for Dark Eldar to let two things kick me in the nuts. .

As far as the flyers go they would all be cool to have in an affordable plastic version. However, the Valkyrie is the only viable one I see and even then it's pretty slim. The Baneblade worked because it's such a bitchin model and so many armies in the game can use it. This is guard only so I'm not too sure. If Planetfall does come out and they want to add flyers to the game then it has a higher success chance, but it also means they'll need to spread some love to other armies.

The only way I see the Vulture / Valkyrie really coming into being is if they can be used in the regular IG codex (future). Now THAT would be Kewl

Otherwise I'd proffer just not a cost efficient investment.

Correction:
"The only way I see the Vulture / Valkyrie really coming into being is if they can be used in the Spase Marinez codex!!!!eleven!!1! Hurr!!"

just like the Baneblade, that traditional Space Marine engine of war.

It makes sense GW would add fliers because it's a way to sell a new set of models. As said they would need every army to have at least one flier and an AA weapon of some sort. This starts to look like rather a lot of extra stuff to cram into armies at 1,500 to 2,000 points levels so I think it will actually be reserved for Planetstrike or as an optional rules section.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Yep. That's been up on Bell for a couple weeks now. We've heard rumors about plastic Stormtroopers and plastic greatcoats for over a year now - a couple years now, I think. I doubt we'll see those any time soon. (Granted, when I heard about DE, I dismissed it as pipe dreams thinking that GW would never make anything that lame...oh, how wrong I was.)

As for plastic turrets, considering how GW retooled the SM Vindicator and Predator, I would say that plastic turrets are a pretty reasonable prediction.

As for Valks, Vultures, and TBolts - well, there's no way they'll get away with doing that before they come out with SM Drop Pods (unless in the next SM Codex coming out after 5th Ed they do away with Drop Pods - heh!) If, and I think this is a big if, GW puts rules for flyers in 5th Ed they might do this, but considering how difficult it already is to kill Skimmers, I think flyer rules will continue to be relegated to the realm of IA and Forgeworld.

As I've said before, if the Valk plays in 40k, it'll be a Skimmer NOT a Flyer.

The only way they would successfully sell a new line of models is to make them affordable. $90 on a Baneblade works again because it is usable by so many armies. I doubt you can make a plastic Thunderhawk or Chaos Talon for that price. Now, if they come up with some new models for fliers then it is a total possibility, but that requires GW to make models for non-Imperials... and well... that's just not going to happen.

Well I can confirm that the plastic greatcoat figures will be released. I just bought a few squads of the old metal Steel Troopers not too long ago....

Typical.

Or they could make some cool anti-aircraft units for the non-Imperials. But yea, don't see that happening either.

greatcoat guard make a lot of sense, so long as they come with a choice of head/helmet styles - IG will then be able to choose anything from desert to winter uniforms. Plus of course greatcoats look cool on any officers, even in desert conditions

The tank turret options sprue should have been done years ago (and while they're at it, how about doing the same for Land Raider crusader sponsons, grumble grumble).

I remain dubious about flyers - way cool as display models, but flyers aren't that practical in a normal game, they're just too big - i mean, that's the whole point of smaller scale AERONAUTICA IMPERIALIS, isn't it?

On the greatcoat guard tip, but somewhat tangential: Man, I hope Pig Iron or West Wind get on top of making some Russian-style heads to fit into their line of switchable craniums.

Waitasec... idea forming...

...magnetized heads. Yes, I see it so clearly now. Plastic greatcoat guard could make a Valhallan/Steel Legion split possible.

I just hope if they do plastic greatcoat guard they have someone else sculpt the heads other than the dude who did the Cadians and SM Scouts...

Doesn't west wind do russians?

West Wind does do Russians, but for their separate heads they only have side caps and steel helmets - nothing that really distinctly says Russian. In their WWII minis, though, they've got some great guys with furry hats.

In terms of the Valkyrie, I always wanted one as a personal transport for my Inquisitor and his retinue. I guess that's somewhere they'd get a few more sales.

That's a really cool conversion KK. I have a friend that was trying to make a Valk conversion using a 1/32 scale Hind. Makes for a really cool conversion as well.

Depends on what affordable means to people.

People bought Baneblade despite the price because they wanted it for Apoc. It's a ridiculously expensive kit.
