So the full rules, with the modeling and fluff sections chopped off the end.

Pretty much the same as 4th ed, then.

All basic rules are in, anything beyond that such as the missions, extra scenarios and campaign section is left out most likely. They did the same with Macragge, giving you just the basic rules for playing the game, leaving out missions etc.

Fencing sessions is half the fun. In leave mine on the connecting sprue so they are twin linked.

Exactly. But those who like to believe otherwise can do so, I guess.

Don't forget, the 4th ed mini rule book didn't include any of the non-basic missions or the rules that came along with them. I only remember this because I went to an RTT where the mission had preliminary bombardment, and nobody had the full book to see what that rule actually did. It also didn't include killteam/combat patrol, or the campaign rules.

I'd imagine the mini book contains the basic rules up through the missions, however.

They're quite good for swatting grubby hands that are reaching for your minis.

None of that is in 5th anyway.

There's just the one set of missions.

They don't even have the old faithful Tree & Ladder campaign boilerplate that GW's put into every rulebook since at least 40K3?

Whippy sticks are excellent when you cut them into 6-inch chunks for measuring movement. But yes, outside of that, their utility is limited.

a whippy stick and the hardback rulebook are two ways to keep douchecannons at bay. poke them in the eye with the stick or flip them in the ear, and while they are distracted, brain them with the rulebook.

Didn't any of you guys see the reference in the hardback book about the Black Reach set? Page VI under "What You Need" states, "The rules are also available in a pocket-sized version found the Warhammer 40,000 Assault on Black Reach boxed set". That seems rather clearcut to me.

Hmm...the price is right...and the models look better than I expected. And they're the units I want.

BUT I was planning on doing a lot of conversions for the Dreadnaught and termies I plan on getting. I don't think these models would lend towards that too much. :/

but I'm holding my Black reach rulebook in my hands (well, lap) as I type this
JUST LIKE the battle for Mcragge, the rulebook is in fact, the full rules, reduced to an A5 format.
when i look at page 2-95 - it is exactly the same as the big book
pages 96-112 are exactly the same as 289-304 in the big book

the full rules are there, I don't know what you were looking at

???? Um, yes. If you buy the set, it's mandatory that you get over 300.00 in miniatures, and a full set of the rules, for only 60 bucks. However, if you really don't want anything, I'm sure people won't mind taking them off your hands.

Agree with Deitpike.

This isnt the same thing we had to go through with AT-43 Operation Damocles.

(though in Rackhams defense the full AT-43 rulebook is alot cheaper than 40K's book, and it is full sized)

What's missing? Shootas for the Orks. Now I have to spend lots of money on Boyz boxes to get shoota arms dammit.
Also missing powerfists/klaws for the squad leaders. More bitz to buy.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.
