Awesome work. I can see why some people may not like the painting style, but personally, I think that not only does it make a good change, but a whole army painted like this will look great. As far as the bases go, I'd recommend painting the rims black, so that the minis are framed properly, and also, it will suit the painting style you're using.
As far as scenic bases go, don't feel you have to try too hard, your minis do deserve good bases, but good basic ones would do fine, a bit of flock or static grass here and there would be ok. As I said, I think black rims would make a world of difference.

Keep it up!

Ok. So here are the photo's I promised.

First up :The completed (and now illegal for 5th Ed) Termie Squad. No biggie I picked up AoBR and the WHite Dwarf with the free extra termie so I will be fine playing wise. Note I have not gotten in the bases I opdered for them yet so please ignore the bases. They are just barely glued to them for painting purposes.

Next we have a shot of the Sgt. Please note my uber BAD attempt at free hand which will probably be getting painted over...

Assault Cannon Termie:

Cyclone Termie:

Regular Termie:

Last regular Termie (Bad crop need to redo if you want it):

Here is a VERY early shot of my AoBR Dread. As he is SOO big I thought I would try a white primer and wash wash wash but Im not liking it.

Side shot. Metal work is looking uniform so I will prolly finish him. :

And fianally a couple WIP's of my Sterguard Do-it-yerself'ers. I do have one extra storm bolter ammo box I split in two for two of the guys this is not one with that clip. I also got the Imperial Fist /Crimson Fist Conversion pack bits and the terminator honors shoulder pads. I am liking him so far.

I really dig the color scheme and paint job, also the subtle tweaks to their poses are noticeable and stylish. Looking foward to seeing more!

Well, the blacklining is pretty "harsh", but Im a fan of that, so more power to you! Great looking yellow!

I use a black base coat instead of the white I should be using for sanity purposes. Then I have to go back with about 7-8 semi-thick (REALLY thick for blending) coats of Sunburst Yellow to get the consistency of yellow that I like. It helps dull the yellow as otherwise it would be just too bright for me to work on and like.

I wouldn't like this effect to be used everywhere on on everything normally, but since very few people use this technique so contrastingly I think it makes your work stand out and shine.

I really like how the green, black and yellow interact on things like the termies fists.

As for the earlier posts I think I have a copy of that old rogue trader somewhere and I still have bits from the box of 30? marines. Occasionally I run across that old yellow plastic on a really thin bolter or that oh so funny looking flamer. THier old rocket launcher is is in my orks lists tool. I have the plastic orks from that time as well ... they make it into my Trukks as crew, and I still use some of their power klaws, and their old long plasma guns.

Keep sharing your work,

Meph

I like the experimentation, and I'm positive that the cell-shading style will visually pop your army out of a line of tourney tables.

Can't wait to see the whole force assembled!

Love the contrast between the bright yellow and the black lines...

cell shading for the win!

I demand your white scheme now! Its so clean and smooth and beatiful. Also I would like your yellow scheme. And how you black line... can you just post a tutorial of a more detailed model (Veteran) so I can see how you unleash your godlyness upon these models?

Wow..right when I get distracted by Tau, a bit of orkiness, and revising my IG I get a lot of interest in these guys. If I can make it to the store this weekend and pick up some primer I will gladly do a WIP tutorial for you guys. I have been taking a break (rather extended I admit) as they are a b-i-t - you know what to paint. To achieve the black lining cell shading I base coat with black. Then I use 8-10 thinned coats of Vallejo "Deep Yellow" paint # 70915. I use Vallejo Thinner to thin the paint. paint # 524. Both are available in the Model Color line (not the fantasy or the other one..). After that for the white I paint a coat of #70869 Basalt Grey (All my paints are Vallejo Model Line). As this is a primer/ base coat I don't worry about thinning it. Then 2 coats of the white (Best white ever hands down. 2 thin coats on a black surface will give you a clear white.).

I have my Sternguard made and I will try to do a step by step of this for you guys (again if I can get to the store - on top of my kids we will have the niece this weekend as well).

Oh, and before I forget - Thanks for the interest! You guys are the ones inspiring me to work on them some more.

Damn that's a sweet precice look. You did a similar thing to what I did with my army, going with a black base and keeping the black in the lines, 'cept you're a much better and more precice painter.

On average, how long does it take you to paint a single model? I get the feeling you have patience that I don't have. lol

I really like the paint jobs on these guys, especially the whites and yellows. The blacklining is an interesting technique, and looks good. I do wonder if you'd consider highlighting the gray weapons though. They look a little flat compared to the rest of the army.

Phwoar, those models are excellent. You're one of the few people on the site that can actually paint with yellow, Burb.

I'm not a fan of yellow but I suggest maybe some highlighting done? Possibly some on the yellow also?

Oh hey cool, the Imperial Fists are my favorite loyalist chapter.

Huh, you're a very skilled painter but it looks a bit smooth for 40K, grit always helps. I'm sorry if I'm being a bit critical.
