I'm such a wavy mavis. Even with a plan, I had 60 quid to spend on figures last week and almost drove myself mental trying to work out the permutations of what I wanted.

I traded off a Tau army I was starting to collect for more pretorians... tring to reduce the number of projects I'm not doing right now...

Planning? Only when a tournament is around the corner. Otherwise, I've got more than enough stuff in partial completeness, and work on whatever takes my interest at that moment.

What's that old military saw?

No plan survives contact with the shopkeeper?

Paint the last 30 Marines or so that I have yet to do and then assemble and paint the last two Assault Squads to complete my second Dark Angels Battle Company.

Then Im a starting Blood Angels until the Guard codex comes out and will probably assemble an Air Cavalry force depending on whether or not they get new guardsmen. (Rather don't like the Cadians, and an all infantry Valhallan guard force is a bit out of my price range working at Tim Hortons...)

i dont really buy stuff all that much anymore. im gonna need to buy some new cadians but other than that, i just paint what i feel like (i have about 6k of stuff to paint, so im kinda spoiled for choice).

other than that, i just sorta go with the flow.

1) Buy a battle CO and 8 drop pods (maybe 9)

2) start figuring out what I want to play for an army list and How I can use the multitude of marine bitz I have accumulated over the years to build them

3) buy whatever else I might need

4) Assemble & Paint while playing

It's all finishing and modifying...

1. Get White Scars up to scratch, and new-codex compatible. Last few Tac squads, last few Predators, Foot and bike captain.
2. Finish Slaanesh Daemons. 2nd Soulgrinder, seekers, chariot.
3. Maybe Mechanised IG/Armored Company next. Got all the models already, so they won't be too affected by the new codex.
4. Harlequins? Just tweaking and finishing - yeah, when I get around to it!
5. Emperor's Children?? - these might be on the back burner for a while until they become useable again!
6. Witch Hunters? Really want to do this army eventually but the models are all in pieces and I don't want to start an entirely new project yet.
7. Empire Militia IG - not until the new codex is out!

Currently for me, its:

Getting my chaos bikers, custom oblits, and the second half of my old reaver titan painted.

Then, I need to get me another rhino, and assemble the two vindicator-turned tiger 1 tanks I have lying around.

And then... I feel eldar lurking in the back... Maybe, just maybe.

Current project is finishing up my Crimson Fist. Have about 35 guys and three 3 dreds to paints and 6 drops pods still to assemble and paint(which drop pods look like a pain in the ass to paint).

After that is done, which I'm hoping to be right around xmas, I'll be looking at a zombie imperial guard army or a steam punk ork army.

At the start of the summer, I still had most of a revamped Lizarmen army to paint (what I had was part of an army from 1996 that I hadn't touched before then). Bought enough stuff to get them up to 3K points last year and assembled them. So I took a break from increasing my orks (8K and climbing) and buying and said, "Nothing new until these are painted!"

Which mostly worked...

The LM are now done until new releases come out in Feb 09.

I also had 4 squads of O&G stuff to paint (plus BfSP gobbos) - down to one orc squad and the BfSP gobbos. Not sure if I'm going to paint them or not. Probably just try to sell them and only keep/paint the spider riders. And a 5th edition wvyern that I still haven't painted after 11 years.

Orks:

Burna boyz are the only thing I currently have that need paint. When the 2nd wave hits I'm planning on getting at least 2 BW, maybe snikrot, maybe Badruck. Also getting the warboss from AoBR.

I've done a pretty good job this year of actually getting stuff finished and selling off what I will never work on. Makes it much easier to store stuff.

I plan on selling off all of my other armies, and keeping a few.

I will work on Space Wolves for next years trournament army. They are my first army, that they are the figures that got me into 40k.

I am planning on doing a pre-heresy Thousand Sons army.

The other armies I will keep are Chaos, Inq. and Eldar.

Everything else must go!!!

I plan. I plan lots and lots and lots of stuff. What I actually manage to do however... That's another story.

Daemons - Add some Khorne based units to give me some CC ability and paint them
Space Marines - Buy and assemble my White Scar 1750 point army (all bikes)
Orks - add some looters, and a battleforce to begin with.

Find someone to paint my final 7 stealth suits

Wait for all my Space marine stuff to arive off ebay

Box up

Send to studio and wait a month until my army comes back.

Deathguard
- waiting for my termis
- MAYBE order a few forge world conversion kits
- will get some vehicles soon and nurglify them myself

Orkz
- Get another 70 normal boyz and 12 burna boyz
- then get some killa kanz and a deff dread
- then make a painboy
- then pwn everyone

Eldar
- paint up the dire avengers I hope will come soon
- then re-paint the Wave Serpents
- then do the Warp Spiders
- repaint Farseer and Avatar
- paint up some Guardians

Other
- Get rid of my Tau and WFB Dwarfs
- in order to have money for my other armies

Not 40k, but I need to finish my WFPA Heavy Gear Blitz force, then work on the Leagueless and Southy forces... Then I might spend some time finishing my in-progress Sisters and ACTA ships just because I can.

If I move, add throwing together a table with some scenery fit for HGB into the mix.

I've got a little spreadsheet where i roughly work out deadlines i want stuff painted by etc, worked well for me so far to get stuff done.

I'm a maniac when it comes to planning. I've Ideas for a space marine chapter (check out the background story in the fiction section) a necromunda gang to build, a lotr dwarf army, a sisters army to finish, a guard army which i've started. But it doesn't stop there i have loads of notebooks for each project, which includes army lists, models I just want!!! approximate price costs and average income to let me estimate when I can finish a project. Recently, I thought to myself when can an army actually be called finshed? Where do you set the points limit? Do you redo it when the army gets redone? Were all in a massive money sinkhole.

Plans, sure I plan.

It's doing that is the problem.

I create plans that will allow me to make cool looking models or I think what don't I have yet and create/buy that.

Hmm, personally I consider an army finished when I can field a reasonable 3000 pt army of it.

I find if I have too much stuff it bogs down the desire to paint stuff. I first got back in to this game by buying one box set of orks... and now bam 1500pts (junk list) thanks to black reach around boxes and now Im trying to make those marines usable.. but I bought too many so cant be bothered any more.

Ya I think my major problume is I can't stick to one army for long. I started with Necrons, good army but having 50+ Warriors all the same to paint made me /tear so I went to Orks with the new Dex, got what I thought would be a nice amount (Starter box, Kommandos, extra boys and Gaz) found out that mass is crap I had to paint was only a decent 750 List I am not working on a daemon army that I will more then likely switch off of when it comes time to paint...

army plans:

daemons: get a 2,500 point daemon army brought and painted in the next 2 months.

random chaos: order parts and build 10 plague towers and 10 silver towers.

ONE:
1200 points worth of eldar remain to pe painted;
still to be acquired are at least thirteen jetbikes (still have to convert the last 80% of my jetlock council), a couple more wave serpents, more FDs, in all likelihood more DAs.

TWO:
My skaven are always collecting odd empire/dwarf/goblin models to add to the slave ranks. I need to finish my orc chariot / warp cannon hybrid conversion too, then get enough plague monk boxes to field a Pestilens force at around 2000 pts.

THREE:
Space Marines need dakka - 16 Sternguard on their way, and another couple tac squads. LR and Terminators also a basic that I haven't gotten my hands on yet for this army.

FOUR:
New Chaos Warriors, if they end up being any good.

my plans

1.buy my deathguard stuff,assemble,get painted by middle of december i finaly decided on a list.
2.exstend deathguard to 2000 points.
3. buy some forgeworld,dreads and get some apoc bits for my deathguard.
