yeah,

So I plan ahead... alot. and i was wondering how many of you plan ahead, and how far ahead do you plan?

My Plans*...
1)Currently working on a upgrade to my CSM ... adding terminators vindicators and obliterators, just finnished upgrading my dreads, more raptors and possessed.
2)Next Eldar adding 2 wraith lords, 10 jetbikes, 3 vipers, squad of howling banshees,2 squads of fire dragons
3)Nurgle Daemons
4)Pretorians if the guard codex is out.
5)Space Marines (green templars...? not sure which codex I'll use)

--- I have two projects in my head that will be done at any point i feel like taking a break from what i'm doing.---
1) Chaos Altar - I have 1 of the plastic kits been kicking around for too long.
2) My own cities of death building tiles. these seem too easy not to do!
3) mini Eldar portal... this will be a cast in resin so i can place 2 or 3 on the table... the idea will be a converted viper(s) without the weapon, it instead transports a warlock/farseer with a eldar device (about 20mm in size) he jumps off the bacK a deploys a webway mini portal big enough for troops to come through.

Anyways these are my plans...which I'd be lucky to get done by 2010.. I guess...

PaniC...

Edit: the models required for the plans have all/mostly already been bought... it's not a wish list...
Daemons Pretorians are at about 1000pts, SM are at about 2000pts...

*subject to change

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Obsessivly.

I'm the guy who draws up blue-prints for Cities of Death Buildings using Excel after making 'proof of concept' sketches by hand, and running constant inventories on production materials.

A lot of my long-term projects are actually coming to a close now, which is pretty impressive as I'll have... nothing... on my plate for a while:

Deathguard Project:

I got the Deathguard Power Armour and Terminator Armour conversion kits from FW. Just have to build the Terminators now. I also got the two Death Guard Dreads at the same time.

So that army - Terminator Lord, 7 Terminators, 4 7-man Squads w/Rhinos, 4 7-man Plague Bearer units, 2 7-man Havoc units, 2 Dreads - is now complete.

Tyranid Project:

Probably my longest running project, given I got my first Tyranids in the Tyranid Attack boxed game, this one is just about done.

My most recent order was for:

3 Tyranid Warriors
32 Gaunts
1 Ravener
1 Lictor

Finishes off every squad, gives me the exact models to do 3X36 H-Gaunts and 3X36 T-Gaunts (w/Fleshborers), two units of 6 Raveners, etc.

Aside from the torture of having to put together more Gaunts (these will be my 13th and 14th boxes of Gaunts), it's nice to see it all come together.

Necron Project:

Excluding the Deathguard and Deathwatch projects, which were for little boutique armies rather than massive forces like my other armies, the Necrons are my most recent project, and the one that was stalled the most.

My order for the Tyranids also included a few scattered Necron units, and as this will be the first army I actually paint completely, this is a big deal to me. Each of my four wings (Blue, Red, Silver, Gold), now has their completed model counts, and are ready to get their distinctive colour-schemes.

Yeah, I know, I chose an army that's really easy to paint as my first painted army - but we've all got to start somewhere. We can't all be Migs, or Yak or Snord (for those who know him) on our first try, can we?

Cities of Death Project:

Yeah I've got like a City, City box and a half left over. Have to do another inventory stock-take before I finish those off.

Random Chaos:

I've still got a Defiler sitting in a box somewhere. It was going to be a Brass Scorpion, but I'd have to get another Defiler to do that and I can't be bothered. I'd love to get a unit of Bloodcrushers, but after putting together that Herald Bloodcrusher I'm shying away from it - how do those things go on bases? I had to sculpt contact points of out greenstuff for my one, else he'd just fall over. Got two Vindicators to put together as well.

I've got couple of spare Termies to do as well.

Random Marines:

Got a scratch-built Techmarine to make now that I have the parts, plus a Jump Pack Commander with Lightning Claws. Battle for Black Lagoon box is on its way, and with it comes another wonderful Dreadnought, and a Terminator destined to get itself a Heavy Flamer. Got a Vindicator to build for them as well.

And a Redeemer that I bought by accident. Yes, I actually bought a Land Raider by accident. It's a weird story...

Lots to do, but so much less than it was two weeks ago.

My plans:
1) Get my White Scars up to new Codex standards (8 Bikes and a Tac squad for 1500, then 3 Preds and a Techmarine for 2K)
2) Get my Orks to a workable level. (I keep doing fun convertion that aren't troops choices )
3+) Get my DIY marines working with the new codex, finish my Armoured Company tanks so I'll be ready for the new Guard Codex, start a Tau all stealth army.

I have very detailed and layed out plans, that chage every week XD

I am currently working on a 1.5K Daemon army, after that I will increase my Orcs from 750 to 1,500 as well. I was going to take my Necrons from 1.5K to 2K but from what I hear about the new dex coming all the Necron hate is going to make them suck even more.

Also have to finish painting my Necron army and start my Pink orks. (Fluffy bunny Waaaaagh!)

My army plans for now are....

Eldar:

Have two battleforce boxes coming in plus another squad of avengers.
Next some harlies and 3-6 jetbikes
Finally finish up my fire dragon and scorpion squads
Much later down the line finally get a couple fire prisms

Nids:

About 100 more gaunts (not all at once mind you)
Crusher brood for Fexes
Zoanthropes
about 9 more warriors

Then of course the most daunting task of them all...to paint them.

I tend to change what I'm planning to do rather frequently, but always return to either fantasy dwarfs or 40k speed freeks (my first complete army, I was playing orks before it was cool muthachuffers!)

I have little to no planning when it comes to purchasing. I'm a cheap bast... er... make that "frugal" purchaser, although almost entirely by impulse. My current plans are to find some cheap wave serpents and bikes for my Eldar army and flesh out my son's necrons with some warriors. I was recently shown how to convert warriors into immortals and flayed ones, so they'll be the next priority for his army.

Painting and converting on the hand are always a planned affair, although plans are frequently delayed or updated based on my availability!

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

I used to not plan my armies, so I'd just buy lots of stuff.

Now, I plan out what units I want, stopping when I fill a FOC. That way, I potentially field everything, but will have plenty of options for games up to 2000 pts.

Current to-do list:
- finish building custom Guard Tanks
- build Baneblade conversion
- paint Guard stuff!

- tear down Space Marines
- rebuild Space Marines as all mk.6 Beakies
- rebuild & convert Defilers
- build Templars

- convert & paint Eldar Wave grav-tanks

This to-do list has seen minimal progress over the past several months. I will live forever!

Yeah, i plan, then procrastinate!!!

My current focus is just Orks. I love them to bits, they were my first army and I've stayed with them pretty much non-stop since I got into the game 12 years ago. At the moment I must have about 6000pts of Orks, but less than 1000 pts in a playable state, everything else is still in the box or W.I.P. So definitely need to pull my finger out with those guys... I've got really hung up on the modelling, converting, painting and basing side of the hobby though, so it's a very slow process. I've spent the last 10 days on a squad of lootas and they haven't even seen any glue yet!

After that... I've got my IG force to build up. I want to get that up to about 2500 points-ish, with maybe a super-heavy or three to expand it in to Apoc Level. My guard are catachan infantry, with Cadian troops for the guys mounted in Chimeras, a few LRs and sentinels and I fancy making some "counts as" Chimeras or maybe writing a datasheet for some Catachan jungle troop transports based on Xanthos' "Huey" Land speeder conversion. I don't really go in for any of the weird looking IG guys, like the Vostroyans, Mordians et al, it's camo gear or nothing for me... Another little thought bubble at the moment includes coming up with some fluff to allow me to field a unit of Ork/Ork Nob Mercenaries as a detatchment to my IG. Either "counts as" Ogryns or field them as Orks with a few handicaps and maybe on a 2D6 roll of 2 at the start of each turn they go mad and become a seperate unit fighting anyone on the board, and on any double roll you re roll the test.

I also have a Flesh Tearers fetish... I have a huge hankering to build up a Flesh Tearers chapter force, maybe 1500-2000 points... ever since they got an FAQ or something in WD years and years ago, with the funky Flesh Tearers dread... I love the fluff and the fighting style and the painted minis. That's what my AOBR marinez (hurr) are for, and a few other SM bits and bobs I've inherited over the years from friends who've given up.

The last one and may never occur is a Chaos army, devoted to Khorne. I really hate all the other Chaos gods and their followers, especially Nurgle, proper disgusting, can't be bothered with any of that all... but the Khorne dudes rock, they have the best Greater Demon and characters, and Khorne Beserkers are just the coolest looking dudes in Power Armour ever However, i don't know enough about the CSM codices to do anything about it right now and would like to keep it that way as I have too many pans on the hob right now...

Don't even get me started on that tasty =I= WH DH SOB with a little IG attached fething wet dream i have from time to time

The other plan is not to get involved in any other games!! At my FLGS they play 40k, WHFB, Mordheim, Necromunda, Bloodbowl and various other non GW games that I'm shutting my eyes to as I just can't afford the time and money to get hooked into another game

(THIS SPACE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK)

I just sold my entire tyranid force for 250$. I have picked up:

3 battle for black reach box sets ~120 dollars after splitting it with a friend
1 Space marine battleforce ~90 dollars
1 predator ~35 dollars

With the codex that ammounts to around 280$ and ~2400 points.

Thats 45 tac marines
5 assault marines
5 scouts
15 terminators
3 captains
3 dreadnauts
1 rhino
1 predator

In three days I have assembled every marine and vehicle and am now in the process of heavily converting the AOBR sergeants and captains to something actually useable. On my next trip I will need to pick up a techmarine to convert into a master of the forge so that my army will be legal. Once that is complete it will simply be a matter of filling out what's missing from my force (primarily fast attack).

I had planned most of this from the day i decided to sell the 'nids. I'm glad it's come together so nicely.

my plans for the rest of this year are to paint the current chaos i have, paint at least some of my guardsmen and then draw up an army list for my eldar tournament army, i find it easier to plan the army list first and then buy what you need, i find it makes it easier as then afterwards you can add and drop models depending on how they work etc, of course the small downside is you end up with a rather large collection but hey its all part of the fun

When you give total control to a computer, it’s only a matter of time before it pulls a Skynet on you and you’re running for your life.

Armies
1) Daemonhunters - Current army being painted. About 70% finished. Looking to be done in the next few weeks.
2) Space Marines - 5k sitting around built. Colour scheme and concept fleshed out.
3) Orks - 2.5K painted. 4 sets of AOBR need to be assembled and painted. Need to build at least six more trukks. Also, am working on a secret Apocolypse Ork project.
4) Imperial Guard - 4k painted. 1 Infantry platoon and 2 heavy weapon squads awaiting paint. Awaiting next codex installment prior to expansion.
5) Tyranids - 3K painted. A few broods yet to be built and painted. Working on a Forgeworld superheavy.
6) Iron Warriors - 4K painted. 1 CW squad awaiting painting. Not sure what to add at this point. Probably a whack of Rhino's

Scenery
1) My 8x4 gaming table is still incomplete. It is all assebled and games can be played on it. But I still need to texture and paint multiple playing surfaces to go onto the table. For now gaming mats are being used.
2) Large Imperial temple/palace 90% assembled.
3) Need to completely redo all my styro hills.
4) I've got a series of river tiles that need attention before they can be used.
5) I've got a bunch of materials and plans made up for an Imperial Defence laser Apocalypse unit.
6) I've got the big box (Imperial City?) of cities of death buildings I need to assemble and paint. I've got plenty of ruins so I'll aiming for intact structures.

Toowoomba, Australia

I do an army list and build it normally, then add units to the army as time goes for variety as I'm primarily a tournament player.

that's how I've ben doing it for WHFB for the last few years and my new HEs will be no exception.

The exception is my upcoming 6th incarnation of my BA army.
This will be the be all and end all of my BA obsession.
grand plan to do the 1st, 2nd, 8th (for bikes and vehicles) and 10th companies all with metal or resin shoulder pads, full dread compliments and vehicular set ups, and I'm even throwing in.... every concievable weapon set up for each squad in the 2nd company (so there will be a model in each tac squad reproduced with bolter, ML, MM, LC, PC, and HB) and same for sgt (who will be death company models) and the special weapon guy.
And all on resin bases.

Thunderhawks will come later.

I've started modelling, but have to make sure I don't purchase too far ahead of myself as I don't want to burn out and end up with a mountain of BA stuff sitting in boxes for a year or 2 whilst I'm distracted by other projects.

Current Projects:
40K: Buy and paint any new ork models that come out.
Possibly buy 25 more warbikes to make into a warbiker horde.
Finish off my Deathgaurd, with the forgeworld terminators phasing out my old metal ones. Possibly add Khorne Berserkers for counter assault for when I bring them to competition, and maybe that ultraforge daemon for a winged Daemon Prince.
Fantasy: A friend gave me a bunch of ogres to paint for him, I'd like to get them done before he visits in january.
Apart from that, finishing off my fantasy orcs by painting the odd bits and bobs that are left. Not motivated to work on any of the other bits right now.
LOTR:
Finish painting my mordor stuff.
Hordes:
Assemble my long riders, pick up a unit of champions and a stone bearer. Maybe a bouncer too. Borka Kegslayer is a must. Paint my krield warriors, impaler, long rider and new purchases.
Cygnar: Finish off the battlegroup.
Plans for new armies...possibly warmachine mercs or cryx.
Also want to make an ash wastes/mordor/bloodstone marches board using a nifty paper mache technique the lads in models inc showed me.

Boo yah.
The one in the stupid jumping up in the air pose was really annoying though. Two tiny flat contact points to take the weight of the whole model? Great design choice PP. Right up there with having the freebooter's entire weight hinge around one leg.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

I like malf's bridges method. Keeps things real.

At the present time I have this. As the mood strikes me to plan armies I write it down, same as any other creative work.

Vampire Counts + Dark Elves == 2 armies for the price of 1.5.
Finish what Eldar I have.
Space Marines?

Lizards
Saurus Cavalry come from Kroq-Gar. Maybe one Chotec Squad? Banner?
Skink Javelins are 50/50 (for now) Red/ Normal. If I want more red I can always buy another box.
Skink Blowpipes are 50/50 Red/ Orange
Maybe a minimal mix of the other as well. Next box make them all Javelins.
Whatever Saurus I have today are Orange. The Temple Guard need those old round shields. They will be blue, yay.
Later on I will want a squad of green Handweapons and a squad of orange spears.
That's it I guess. Pterodons may as well just paint whatever I feel like. One Red, one orange, the rest normal. Coloured is the Brave.
Need heros. Saurus Lord on foot with Spear.
Oldblood: Carnosaur, Old Ones, Chotec, Magic Sword, Enchanted Shield, Aura of Quetzl 2+/4++* for ~500

The Blue Dragons
"While there is an entire company blah blah …"
Every Marine in the company can ride a bike when necessary. So even the Techmarine guys can ride bikes when needs be.
So you have rank and file Marines and rank and file bikes. The Command Squad would translate directly into Command Squad on Bikes, so would the Tac squads. Dev Squads would ride Attack Bikes?
->Heavy Weapon marines need iconography in both dev squads and tac squads. What about Terminators and Veterans? First company etc. As well as a scout company and reserves.
I like the Scouts as Jump Packs idea. Helps them move away from Salamanders. Follow the Salamanders but different recruitment world. I do not know what to do about Devastators. Maybe have a dedicated Reserve Company that can fill multiple roles beside close quarters combat. So devs, Attack Bikes and what are normally Scouts.

Orks. Three Black Reach gives me 15 Nobz, 9 Deffkoptas and 3 Warbossess. Two (5 man?) of the new Nob boxes gives me 25 guys and bitz to make 14 nobz and 7 Flash Gitz. Heck, I could even get a couple extra out of it.

Vampires and other: Probably randomly collect and paint as the mood strikes.

If I get a Skaven army to be antagonists, just base it off of one of the pictures.

Cygnar
Take Siege with Reinholt, Nyss Hunters (Fox Hole) and Trenchers (Higher Ground).
Lancer for Arc Node. Defender is generally thought to be too expensive.
Note that Jacks in Warmachine are 100% offensive, using/ wasting Focus. You want them high ARM and you want them stuck in. The Trenchers thing is a 'jack marshal.
Hammersmith and Stormclad are tricky. The Hammersmith is 'my' cool Warjack, with the big Thunderthing. Centurian and Lancer are the good ones.
Centurian is the uber beat stick. I probably want the Ironclad and the Lightning thing.
ol' Rowdy is an upgraded Ironclad, once I play more. Journeyman casters, etc.

Tau
Markerlight Shas'o
I use Ethereals, Pathfinders and Stealth Suits. He (edit: my brother) uses Crises Suits, Kroot and Fire Warrior Markerlights.

Then I started to plan and I saw progress - YIPEEE!!

Then my fiancee gave birth to our first.

Now nothing gets done anymore...

Currently in the board is:

3000pts WH/SoB - nearly done, just need to finish painting the last squad and then wait for the FW Thunderbolt from santa's workshop...
3000pts Tau - still need to buy a couple of Hammerheads and some Kroot, build a load of XV8's and for God's sake STOP procastinating and pick a colour scheme or the damn thing will never get painted...
Terrain - Just need to do the bases and build a bridge section for my modular canal. Then I'm farming out the painting to an ex pro-painter I know who'll get the entire board and every piece of terrain done over a couple of weekends (rather than me still doing it in 2012).
300pts Dwarfs - buy two more boxes of warriors to bulk up my infantry regiments to useful sizes and then, you guessed it! More painting

After this I am NOT starting any new armies.

EVER.

until the next one...
