No, I submit that kind of thing could never happen in GW-land.

(THIS SPACE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK)

This thread is making me want to facepalm so hard the crack would be audible from the moon. Really. This is just a chance to troll GW for not being authoritative for their rules, and for explaining a system that needed not be explained. People aren't taking what is written as what it is, they are taking it for what they want it to be. And in the case of HBMC they are just using it to launch off of a soapbox into some sort of diving suplex onto that old horse.

If you listen closely you may be able to hear the sonic boom and concussive crack as my own hand sales through my face. At any time and for the rest of your lives, in any quiet moment reflect and listen, you'll hear it echo back to you. Thats how hard this thing will be.

Do you remember that time that thing happened?
This is a bad thread and you should all feel bad

All true.

But it is pretty funny that GW would post it in public for everyone to see.

Shummy... did you miss where I said I liked the idea of a more open ruleset? GW's reasons for doing it might be stupid, but the outcome of their lazy deisgn ethos is not automatically a bad thing. I think it could be considered quite good - liberating even!

Saying that the FAQs were mandatory would somehow require you to use them. Which, funny thing here, you wouldn't use them anyway. So it kinda makes sense for them to endorse them but not require them. They are used in GW sanctioned tournaments, and they state that they are valuable in non sponsored ones.

But they are of the opinion that if you don't want to use them you don't have too and they aren't going to make you.

That does make sense in its way and the same applies to the basic rules. Surely people expect to apply the rules in a game?

Everyone can modify basic rules by agreement with their fellow player, and the same would apply to the FAQ.

It makes no sense to say that the basic rules are official, and the FAQs which fill the holes in them are unofficial.

GW seem to use this as an excuse not to bother publishing good FAQs lists.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

This can actually be pretty bad when you play a random guy and he all of the sudden refuses to play by the rules you have in your FAQ. No, I wanna dice it off always.. Doesnt sound to nice.

Hmmm
This sets me thinking of Mongoose Publishing.
Great rules with cack minatures. They stopped producing minatures and concentrated on their strongest product the rules sets.

GW has great minatures for 40k and mostly cack rules ....

Mind you for a 40k marketing campian, the devs do manage to squeese in some game play.

GW 'We have written some rules with lots of ambiguity and errors. We charge you lots of money for them. Please fix our mistakes yourselves !'

IF the minatures were in the same state as the 40k -Wh rules , GW would be out of buisness IMO.
GWs attitude applied in this senario...

'Well we know there are miscasts, and the assembly instructions are wrong-missing.
But you have green stuff (tm) and GW sculpting tools (tm) and an endless supply of money to 'trial and error' all possible assembly options. And we dont like to tell people how to build things exactly, as we support the kit bashers and converters primarily, and dont want to curtail thier creativity.
These 'whingers'who insist on clear and full instructions on how to assemble minatures, are just a miniority of our customers, and we do not intend to pander to thier extreem requirements.'

Happy gameing.
Lanrak.

I posit that M. Night Shyamalan is simply a front for Gav Thorpe to have tried his hand at writing and making movies.
