Amen. If not for Apoc, my GW spend would be way down. Apoc is keeping GW in the black.

Joyous_Oblivion wrote:I like this model, but it also looks like something easily made with spare parts lying around the house.

If that is true, how come there aren't a lot more easily made Stompas out there?

Fast is, scratch-building a superheavy Titan-class model is hard, whether it's a Baneblade, Stompa or other War Machine. And Stompas *should* be the easiest, as there's no official pattern to conform to, so there is much higher tolerance for mistakes, asymmetry, etc.

So a Stompa-in-a-box will definitely accelerate Apoc forward, building off the existing Ork momentum.

FU 2000 wrote:Now we just need the Warhound Titan and some superheavies for some other races...GW is impressing me with how they continue to support APOC. Maybe an Eldar Titan, or a Necron superheavy next year to go with the Warhoud we all know is coming!

Warhound is doable now that the Stompa is going into production - Imperials need stuff to kill Stompas, and they will need more stuff to fight against.

Hopefully, the Eldar 5th Edition Codex releases with a Revenant or Scorpion for Apocalypse. I'd be happy with either one.

The Necrons just don't sell in numbers, so even if they get a Codex late 2009, it'll be probably be 2010 before any superheavy unit gets approved, and 2012 before it hits the table.

(THIS SPACE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK)

So we now have an ork (stompa) and IG (baneblade) superheavy. Any thoughts on what could be next? One would think a thunderhawk since space marines are the most common of all armies, and the thunderhawk isn't really any bigger than the stompa.

I'm still hoping for a Warhound.

And a Vulcan Mega-Bolter and Plasma Blastgun.

Oh, and an option for a Turbo-Laser Destructor in the box too!

A plastic Warhound makes way more sense than a plastic Thunderhawk, though I'm fairly certain the plastic Thunderhawk will be out well before a plastic Warhound...

Plastic warhound? maybe as pair ?

If were on wishlists now, I'll vote for a WARLORD ,since apoc has rules but not a model ........

im usually such a fanboy with new gw stuff, but the stompa left me a little flat. i will withhold final judgement untill i see it in person, but for now i just feel that it could have been cooler. I like it, i am just not blown away by it like with the baneblade.

Well, I'll side with the (very small) "It-sucks-camp".

I'll most certainly get one, but it will most certainly not look like that ugly monstrocity (sp) when I am done.

- New bigger head.
- No flowerpot design (ie sleeker look).
- The engine/exhaust on the back will not look like it was added post-production by an 'Eavy Metal intern.
- Bigger shoulders (any shoulders, actually).
- Seriously beefed up arms.
- A way to (dis)embark any transported unit (most likely a belly-assault-ramp).

Will I buy it? Hell yes!
Am I impressed with GW work? Hell no!

Many of the main body elements are identical to one of the Stompas in the Apocalypse book.

I'm not a big fan of the "scale mail" look, personally. I prefer the less-ramshackle look of the old Epic stompas. I'm not sure if I'll buy this or not. I imagine that if I stare at it long enough (and drink enough) I'll grow to like it.

I dunno...

Frankly, I think it is more fun (not to mentio cost-effective) to scratchbuild your own. Although I do really like this, all you have to do is Ork-up a plantpot. Using the scale pic and MS paint, I found the Stompa is 8 Orks high to the top of the totem poles and stuff, an Ork is 1.2" tall give or take, so the stompa is just under 10" tall

I've figured out what bothers me with this kit. From the pictures I've seen it simply looks like a hollow shell. There's detailing on the surface of the kit, but there isn't a hint of any of the Worky Bitz. No engine detailing, no inner bitz, nothing. Just a skirt, a head, and some guns.

@BrookM -- Thanks.
@Chrispy -- I think you're right about that. It's probably just a shell model. Makes sense, really. The price would double, if they had to give it interior details like the Rhino or LR.
Personally, I prefer the one I'm scratch building, but I expect I'll pick one up for kit bashes.

Can't say I'm a fan of this one, it looks like a ork christmas tree in a bad way... I remember here on dakka ,not long ago ( dont have the time to look for it) there was a fan made stompa that just obliterated this sorry mediocre attempt at a stompa.

Once you look at the sprues, the lack of detail is rather disheartening. No rivets, no bolt heads, no patches on large areas. $95 for a box of plasticard and tube offcuts is hard to justify. The Grot riggers are fairly good at least.
