Well, I was excited until i read this.

There is no Slann spell list, they still only use the spells from the rule book and they lose the dispel magic spell.

Now I just don't want to play Slann.

It seems to me lizardmen gained competitiveness, but lost all it's flavor.

Welcome to, well, a whole lot of the newer army books.
Chaos - demons and mortals don't play with each other, but the chaos gods have made up and are now BFFs; for WoC, god-specific troops are little more than color choices, with even magic items sloshing around in a general pool.
Vamps - bloodlines are toast, Von Carsteins (and VC players) win.
Lizards - same diff, all saurus have Quetzl's blessing, otherwise a lizard is a lizard.
High/Dark Elves - your fluff was probably screwed with too, but you could tell me either way and I'd believe you

Kroak.

He only knows one spell.
Aura of Itza or some such, as he was casting it when he died...

4 levels of casting...
6 inch
12 inch
18 inch
24 inch.

All enemy units within range, even in combat take 2d6 st4 hits as per shooting...

AND his power dice are pool dice, not his, so if you are not in range for it... just use the spells elsewhere.

I really, really wish my lizardmen had an easier scheme than I used... I have to paint up a few dozen saurus with spears for starters.... then stegadons galore!

True heavy infantry that isn't dwarves at last! I love the new saurus point costs and better armor save. I'm even going to start playing lizards again.

The 3 engine powers are:
-5+ Inv. save within 12"
-d6 st4 hits on units within 2d6, st5 if demonic or undead
-may lower the casting value by one of a lore

I don't know if it's been mentioned but Carnosaurs are no longer large targets.

Kroxigors are st6 but only 55pts.

There is an awesome magic weapon called a stegadon warspear that counts a lance and makes the stegadon cause 2d6+1 instead of d6+1

Slaan disciplines are awesome and your level 4 starts at 275 and includes a discipline.

Templeguard now come with shields, there is no option not to take them. If the slaan joins them then they become immune to psycology and are stubborn. No longer 0-1 and are special choices.

Stegadons taken as mounts don't take up another hero slot!

The special choices seem a little overloaded to me but I really like the list overall and it seems like there are a lot more competetive builds in there than there used to be and you'll actually see saurus warriors again!

Just some thoughts

I see... so the Chaos Warrior TROOPS choice with a 2+ save in Combat don't count as true heavy infantry? Dwarfs are low men on the totem pole at this point, try using something different for a comparison.
Hulksmash wrote:I don't know if it's been mentioned but Carnosaurs are no longer large targets.

What? It's only, I don't know, extremely large... That's just bizarre.

First off no need to be rude and no for me they don't qualify as true heavy infantry. The are elite heavy infantry which is a totally different thing. Chaos warriors are also 4 points more expensive and have one less attack so with them you need the ranks to win combat which winds up costing a fortune point wise while the saurus warriors have a 4+ save when using spears and a 6x3 formation using spears and full command will have 25 attacks before it loses anyone. (oh yeah, saurus warriors have 2 attacks each and the silly predatory fighting rule is gone! woot for 2 spear attacks from the back rank!)

And as a side note dwarven infantry will romper stomp all over chaos since the basics cost nearly half as much and the elite heavy infantry is still cheaper but with better stats so I don't see how they are low man on the totem pole. Besides that with only 3 armies now with heavy infantry it's a pretty short pole friend.

The carnosaur was and is to many points for it to be a large target as well since every other thing in it's cost range can fly which heavily mitigates the large target. I like it and i'll let me use one.

As for the mounts thing the only ones in recent army books to take up extra slots are dragons. Think of it as a slower chariot and a way of mitigating the extreme abundance of unit choices in the special section

Eltharion was a blind sword master in 6th edition, but has now some how regained his sight, forgotten all of his awesome acrobatic moves and hopped back on his griffin.

I run a saurus heavy armor now and do really well with it. I can't wait to let loose with the new Army Book. I will kinda sad to lose my nike Oldblood, but honestly he was kind of a crutch so its not that bad of a thing that he's gone....

From the GW Newsletter in my email yesterday:

"Tiktaq'to directs the Terradon patrols of the Lizardmen. Led by this Master of Skies, your Terradons can move on from any table edge after the first turn. Outflank, outmanoeuvre and destroy your foe with this skilled aerial rider."

Anyone know more about Tiktaq'to? And agree about the lazy name fail...

Eltharion the Grim of Tor Yversse, before he was horribly tortured by the Dark Elves (Which lost him his sight like)....

Grom the Paunch is dead and gone, as are Azhag and Gorbad...Historical characters...that is all.

And if you want to get really anal...how about the Von Carsteins? Only Mannfredd the Count is current.

Tiktakto is a char (hero level) who rides a Teradon. I think he's got a magic sword and a mask that makes him scary, and his rock dropping has KB due to him flying higher than anyone else can go.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Grom is dead and gone? that totally screws eltharions hatred of him.

With Tiktakto being able to bring teradons on from any table edge it will give every lizard player reason to bring him. that will be very helpful indeed. has any one heard the rumor about terradon being able to land and takeoff from forest? This will also be very useful.

Arion, the version in the HE book is the "pre-current timeline" version of Eltharion. The same way that Vlad and Isabell von Carstein are in the VC book along with two versions of Mannfred (young and old).

Ahh, so instead of keeping a time line, we can just jump around wherever we want? Then i want rules for Aenarion, Caledor I, and Caledor II and a living version of Lord kroak in the new lizard book.

It's more so players aren't restricted to playing in one era. Regretably, they can't do rules/models for all characters referenced in the history... though I agree a living version of Kroak would be fun

Terradons do indeed have the Arboreal Predator rule. The minimum unit of 3 will set you back 90 points. 100 if one of them is a champion.
