Yes, but now your ws 2 t2 skinks can be picked off to win combat resolution against your kroxigor.

I got to play one game with the new list so far against elves and DOW. Saurus, Temple Guard and Engine of the gods are much improved.

Slann were very depowered. Fully kitted out is around 600 pts, but no +1 to cast or dispell, no extra dispel dice, less toughness, less wounds, and magic items can now be nullified.

Salamanders flame template is S3 with -3 AS, but scatters d10 forward.

Terradons are better.

Magic items are somewhat improved, but plaques and several other items are gone.

Skink heros are unchanged, with little new wargear, so I don't see them making a comeback.

The prophet of soteck was also nerfed down to a hero choice, losing much of his special rules.

Stegodons are even more like ridden monsters now. You can pick off the crew to help win combat rez or cause monster reaction tests.

Does Kroq-Gar still have his gun-thing. Hand of the Gods.

They should have kept the Prophet a Lord choice.

nice. If Kroxigors are S6 now maybe they have an extra couple attacks to make up for all those splattered Skinks.

I would hate to see thrown Javelins gone but maybe Blowpipes will get a no movement penalty bonus.

Wait, what, so If i buy kroxigors for my skink unit they DON"T take up a special choice?!!? Freakin sweet!!!!

It also mentions that skinks will be able to rank up and buy command groups. So now you can have a mixed skink/kroxigor unit (lets say 2 Kroxigors and 18 skink) with movement 6, 6 str 6 attacks, 6/7 str 3 attacks and a static combat res of +5 (3 ranks, outnumber, and standard), and it can run through water. Hell yeah!

Yes, it was/ is a shooting attack. Something like auto hit D6 S4 no saves.

If it is a spell it is a spell, all more reason to beef up your magic with one of those Engines of the Gods. Wait ....

Slaan are still solid. They are cheaper, still get the all important free dice for big spells or make sure those small fireballs go off. They are not large targets so they can't be targeted by shooting when in a unit but can still cast out of the unit. They cause Fear so no more zombies make you run away if he hangs alone. Really limited miscast protection and can't mix and match lores hurts, but really, I think you can get a lot of power out of them for 100-200 points cheaper than the old book.

But Old-blood on carnosaur is also damn impressive. Still cheapish for a Lord, not a large target, and always d3 wounds.

The new slaan is different, but I think they are still quite a solid Lord choice. I think they favor a slower army, but with saurus and temple guard cheaper and better, this can be done.

Never attribute to malice which can rightly be explained by stupidity.

How are the froggies compared to High Elf mages? The fluff nut in me just won't let me use a Slann if they are weaker in the magic department than the other races. There are some exceptions, like Chaos, but even High Elves should be in awe of what the Slann can do.

I imagine I will just stick with the oldblood on carnosaur.

With the right magic items and slann-only powers the frog seems to be as good a caster as it was in the 6th ed. book, if not better. H he changed the multiple small magic missiles barrage for a certainty to get the one/two good spells of one lore. For example a solid casting setup would be: +1pd per cast, know one lore and reroll/bounce miscast power+thingy with perhaps added bsb-upgrade. That setup should cost same-ish as previous 4th gen slanns and is defintely cheaper than a tooled-up 2nd gen. Added benefit with new slanns is of course that they can hide in units now and you don't have to worry about cannons etc. so much. (the hordes of emerging stegadons would have taken some fire off the frog anyways, though)

Slann mage priests looked pretty brutle to me with thier abilities to take Disciplines at least thats what I think it's called. They can take Regen, affected by magic weapons only, extra power dice to all thier castings, Choose any one book of lore, one enemy wizard within 24 ingnores 6's in all thier castings. They can take multiples of theses abilities.

hey folks.

I played a couple games with the new book last week and have read through it.

I posted a ton of info here:

http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177038

Also, http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177038&page=13 that page i've put pretty much the magic item list, special rules, etc for most things, pts, with that you could estimate your own liz army for next month

My comments:

* changes to slann (weaker toughness/wound wise) makes sense... bloodthirsters have only 5 wounds now and with addition of Kholek at 8 wounds...i think slann belong somewhere in between. Kroak of course, is tougher than normal slann ( t5, and 6 wounds)...so it flows well IMHO

* the disciplines (8 powers, 1 free, upto 3 more) are very cool and i've wanted since 6E more customization so based on what people like, you could see 2 slann that are different in terms of powers. more options is always a good thing!

* special chars..some dissappointment here and some awesome stuff (i think)...Kroak and maz IMHO are disappointing. yes, they made them more playable but they got rid of a lot of flavour. to me, that is important. as i have stated at other forums, if the fluff makes no difference, please don't kill more trees, save paper, and provide army books at half price as only pamphlets with the rules i need to play. the stories, etc don't do anything. What i would have prefered, obviously is not a living kroak who would instnat win every game...but stuff like: well, mazdamundi's ruination is very crappy now. range 18 and only affects 1 unit. I'd prefer if he was 700-800 pts and had a weaker earthquake like the older ruination (1d6 instead of 2d6 str 5 hit for example). ALso, in 6E trial rules and 5E he had his own lore (geomancy), but that was not included for him. As well, i think kroak would have been better in the 700-800 pt range as well with afew more powers (extra PD, MR) basically closer to 6E version but not that far....

ideally, i would love if they made a scale for him, (ie. sometimes kroak's spirit returns in a larger portion; not as much as in life but more..) then provide a 600, 1200 pt and maybe a 2 lord version. It's just a nice to have...not a big deal.

Not having our own lore really is annoying again. Liz deserve more than most armies IMHO and it makes sense (remember, BRB lores are what elves taught humans since it's all they could grasp from their own studies in magic after kroak taught them...the new book i believe mentions that teaching in a bit more detail but can't remember). Again, i think in 8E, at least hope, that liz will get a nice plastic slann and plastic carnosaur kit. If that pans out, my guess is for sales, slann will get boosted even more and carnosaurs will be available in a younger/weaker option for scar vets. again, fluffy and fun and it generates more sales since you could do 1 slann and a carnosaur in 2k (hell, cause i like the models, i'd do it for sure!!!)

lack of spawnings -again, making the spawnings better where needed and more customization is a good thing...but oh well.

the book gives me the impression of rushed. Ie. the chaos and daemon books prob took longer to do...while liz they said in one WD article was 1 year. seems kinda fast but considering the army design, understandable.

Oh, and our magic item section sucks. good items, for no reason, were nerfed (maybe jaguar charm one is fine), but stuff like aura of quetzl now is -1 to hit instead of 4+ ward vs str 5 attacks..just not that useful for the type of foes we used the aura for anyways, huanchi banner also got a big change, and plaques are gone (incorp into other items)

Overall, i think it's good and should do ok...but it leaves many liz players i know and online with same feeling as 6E book. good, balanced, but not as much as they could have done to fit certain themes, models, and compared to changes/themes in other armybooks.

in relation, i have the warriors of chaos army as well...what i find there...yes some suff got changed but it still feels 'right'. Ie. i can see tzeentch being related to ward saves since it's all magical...so giving ward saves instead of making heroes wizards, while weaker is still in the same theme and 'fits'. some stuff in liz book just doesn't seem to fit...but it works...so it's what the designers decided...

that's all i mean

anywyas..read those links if you want more info

So, a lot of the lists I'm seeing around still are heavy on the skinks with little to no Saurus. Granted, the book is not out yet, but is that what we can expect still? Did the Saurus get no love?

And the plot thickens: Kroxigor got new models but by all accounts have become significantly weaker.

That doesn't make sense!

Saurus received plenty of love....they are cheaper and a unit of 6x3 Spearmen have a whopping 25 attacks when charged. How is that bad? Most people are still stuck in the old mindset regarding to Lizardmen and as time goes on..more and more people will begin to use more Saurus

Loks fantastic from every angle except the sides, where it looks like a pot bellied pig.

I really think that they shouldn't have make kroak weaker I mean it says "when mage look at him they see a blinding force of pure energy" I mean he should be a one man army. I'm rather disappoint in the slann they're supposed to be the supreme magic users.
