I just used some super glue gel, and waited a while before I tested each model, just to make sure they wouldn't come off when they had dip on them. They key is to get the rod as close to the center of the base, so that when you spin it, the model is rotating in the smallest possible circle.

Considering your other post and the number of X-TREME ANTI DIP people I have seen I could not tell.

Oh, I'm not anti-dip. I'm anti-high gloss models. I think dipping is a great way to get painted armies on the table, and I'd rather face a high sheen dipped army than bare plastic. That being said, I'd think some dullcoat with selected gloss touches would be a great improvement.

I love the way these models have come out. I may have to give it a try myself for my WIP nurgle-stuff.

Can I ask the specific Minwax stain that you used? I like the brown-ness and am looking at doing my Tyranids in a similar vein..

(and I support the use of DeWalt in this hobby.. lol)

I assume he's using Minwax polyshade acrylic.

Avoid the oil because that takes forever to dry.

But really, with GW Washes, traditional dipping really isn't necessary. I think you can get similar results with much less effort using GW Wash.

You may be able to get a similar effect using GW washes, however, that can cost like maybe 9$, and will last me many many many models, including vehicles. A pot of GW washes will not get you nearly as many models done for the same price.

-Porkuslime- Yeah, it is Minwax Polyshade. I cannot remember the exact shade that it is, but it is one of the darker ones, and there are not a ton from Minwax.

-Valhallan42nd- Im not willing to risk my models with dull coat. I have had some very bad experiences with bed batches in the past, and personally, i believe that the shiny look they have now, is exactly what i was going for. The "fresh-from-the-swamp" look is perfect for dipping, and works perfectly with nurgle. That being said, i am willing to give it a shot with one of my few extra models, and ill post some pics of the results

When you talk about cost per fig, I only note that traditionally dipping waste a lot of dip compared with using GW wash.

Very well done. I like my minis flatter as well, but I think for nurgle it works to be a bit glossy.

Let me start by saying you have a nicely painted army, and I don't have a fully painted army. My Mek ADD prevents this, so Kudos to you, sir!

While not a dipping hater, I don't like how it came out looking like it has a thick layer of gloss. I think the effect you may have been looking for came out a little bit too extreme, but it could just be the pictures. I also don't understand your argument against spending money on the washes, when you dipped Forge World models.

Have you tried some of the brush applied matte varnishes? I think it would help if it got touched up in spots.

That's my C&C

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

-Dez- A very good point. I was mostly saying that for people who are thinking about doing something similar, and are not going to be dipping forge world sculpts. I do think that it would be cheaper to buy a big can of minwax rather than buy a lot of small little wash pots from GW. Also, my original models, that i tested the dip out on, do have a much thicker layer of stain, and once i started to use the drill to spin off the extra stain, i got a much more even coat, as well as a thinner coat.

-extrenm(54)- I used Minwax Stain & Polyurethane Antique Walnut Satin. (if you want the exact product i used)

This is the first time i've seen someone use the dip techniquie, and i think it works really well. I remember putting brown ink all over my nuglites all that time ago and picking out the edges after that with highlighting, and now i learn i could've gotten a similar look in 1/3 of the time =(...

But I think this technique would only work well on certain armies, like tyranids and chaos etc..

Good job! =)

Too many armies to count now.. mainly all 40k and AoS

Very nice, I use the same technique with my orks and really enjoy the look of them.
