In a way, I'm glad they (somehow) got consumed completely by the Tyranids. They need at least an overhaul, if not a tombstone. Personally, if GW brought back Squats as they were, name and all, I'd probably have to go on a break from GW games for a while. Even if I came back, I would absolutely refuse to play them.

I think out of all of the existing races, Dark Eldar deserve the overhaul the most. Sure there's something wrong with all of the codeces, but when is there not going to be? Dark Eldar have the potential to be awesome, but a poor model range, and a Codex that hasn't been rewritten since 3rd Edition keep them from being played by nearly anyone.

I think taking the Demiurge route is quite a nice idea. Essentially (for those who don't know) they are Space Miners in Battle Fleer Gothic who utilise massive starships for, well, mining. They are described as being largely automated with a surprisingly small crew. Not much more than has been mentioned to my knowledge...

But, Dwarfs are renowned for their inventiveness, but few numbers. So why not a largely robotic army, adapted from Mining Automatons? Handled right, it would be a fairly unique army in 40k which is of course the first design port of call (no sense just making them stumpy IG or short arsed Orks) and a chance of the designers to do something a little different, as there would be no restraint of having things vaguely anthroprmorphic.

Off-topic?- Can you really go off-topic in off-topic?)-The Robotics is why I was thinking adeptus mechanicus but in some ways I like your independent robotic army idea better.

I'm still going to do the 2 homegrowns but I really like the Idea. I was working from the tangent of what I percieved would be the easiest way to get them included into the 40k story arc.

Thinking about it a little more, I quite like the idea of having a sort of but not at all Synapse range for them.

Essentially, although completely autonomous, it's when being given specialised orders by a Handler that they perform at peak efficiency. Or some such. I dunno. Just bouncing ideas around in my head. That, and it's pretty close to ripping off Warmachines only (IMHO) good idea.

I'll take 5:
1. Necrons - they're a rules nightmare and need cleanup, desperately.
2. Space Wolves - another rules mess, due to the dependence upon C: SM.
3. DaemonHunters - refocus back to Inquisition / Assassins / Heroes of the Imperium
4. Witch Hunters - refocus back to Sisters of Battle
5. Eldar - 100+ pt Non-Scoring KP-giving Transports are ridiculous in 5E

Voted DA cus they're suffering right now. As for the new race discussion that seems to be forming here i'm hoping for Hrud – if fantasy rats are cool then space rats are gonna be awesome with a side of sweeet

GW would never do a robot army when it already has Necrons.

Not that I don't think Necrons are a bit of a jumbled mess, conceptually speaking.

But Necrons aren't Robots per se.

And they don't really play like Robots in the classical sense either, as they are capable of independant thought and do not depend upon pre-programmed orders to achieve their goals.

The way I see it is that if dwarves ever re-emerge it'll be either as a robot crafting supplement to the Tau or as another chapter of the Imperium. I, unfortunately don't see them as their own stand alone race because of the GW resistance to the idea in any form and it would be a fluff nightmare.

The Tau ally is not very likely as GWs current stance is that the Imperium gets the ab-humans and Tau gets the true Aliens. This is a shame because I'd love to see Doc's idea as a Tau ally.

The additional chapter of the Imperium is just as unlikely because GW has stated that they don't have the time to develop any new armies or at least won't until they finish supporting the current ones.

But this doesn't stop us from developing our own homegrown concepts. Heck, if they're good enough and generate enough of a stir at a major event you just might see something very similar in the following 2 years.

Obviously, but gimme a break. They aren't going to do another army that close in concept, any more than they'll do an army of superhuman armored warriors that aren't SM. Or another brutish, warlike race of hulking alien savages that aren't Orks. Or a swarming communal insect army that isn't Tyranids.

It's not about whether it's technically the same. It's about whether it infringes on an archetype that they're already tapping.

I voted for everyone but, Marines/Eldar and Guard, Marines as a book works well i think, Eldar is not actually a bad list and their are many things you can do with it, and guard are due for an update soon hence the jury is still out there.

My vote goes to Witch Hunters, I can't stand the Battle Sister's haircuts and I think they should do the inquisitors a bit more like the Spanish Inquisition as oppossed to the Salem Witch Trials, it goes better with the gothic theme of 40K I think.

Another vote for Codex: Chaos. A single 300 page book with everything all together. I quit playing WFB because they split that chaos army up and then they went and did it for 40K. You don't establish a single all-encompassing 'Great Enemy" then trivialize them as a mishmash of disassociated threats popping up here and there.
