I play several different games so usually mine go into their case, when I have one, or into a box when I don't. Right now my new tournament list is sitting out waiting to be played and painted, till I'm done refining it, at which point I'll organise a specific case for transportation. Once I get a little bit more room I may build a nice display base and put some of my models on it.

Edit: I live in the desert; Leaving models out for display guarantees a good layer of paint-obscuring dust within 6 months..... models REALLY need to be in a reasonably sealed storage or display case.

I have a wall of shelving in my room, and minis gaming consumes one shelf unit. My minis are mostly boxed in several Chessex hardcases, for long-term storage. My stuff to be built mostly sits in few boxes for transporting paper reams. Everything is labeled, so it's easy to find.

Wow, abondoned? You could fix that up and give it the dungeon feel if nobody cared (depending on how abonded it is) then use it as a gaming place for painting and other stuff etc. That'd be cool.

in various shape/brand/sizes of army transports and boxes, portable drawers, etc...
(5 armies in total in the first pic)

and of course, the 'to-do-file-cabinet' that is excessively larger than it should be for an unemployed teenager...

and random or unused models strewn around the house; shelves, drawers, desks, under couches, on the game table, etc...
(i swear, there was a small necron army floating around here somewhere... )

I had to work fast, it was scheduled for demolition, and actually went down starting the next day. It wouldn't have worked out anyway, the stench was horrific. I had to spend an entire day cleaning them before I was willing to bring them in the house.

Most stuff is in cases, but far too much is laying about in the basemen...."Man Cave".

I'm in the process of cleaning it all up and putting some of the stuff that I don't play much anymore but don't have the balls to sell (40k stuff) into bins and storing them propper out of sight.

I want my basement back.

I have never felt safe to use my army transport case.

I get the impression that the spears / guns sticking out would be crushed / bended when i stack them together / close the lid etc etc.

Yes to all, plus a closet and some plastic tubs. Tanks lined up on the bookshelves, in front of the books. They're everywhere. And then there are a couple shelves worth of stuff that are considered my granddaughters 'guys'.

In a CAVE, with a BOX of SCRAPS!

More seriously, in a couple of GW cases on a high shelf in the bedroom closet (keeps them away from the 4-year-old)

At the moment they are all in GW army boxes, but I now have the space for a display cabinet which I intend to get and use. I dont know how people can leave their minis out in the open - mine seem to be dust and fluff magnets if I do that and I dont enjoy cleaning them.
I've currently found these two cabinets as possible options:
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/30114613
and
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6140964/Trail/searchtext%3EDISPLAY+CABINET.htm

The ikea one is more airtight to prevent dust, and is deeper, but does not have a reflective background or a light. The argos one would match the room better but is wider so would take up more wall space and might would need more cleaning inside. Does anybody here have any experience with either of these cabinets, or could anybody recommend better alternatives?

As nice as those are, i feel pressured to spend anymore extra on miniatures :x

So far i keep them in plastic office cabinet ( i think? ) the flatter ones i can easily store infantry in.
1 army per drawer is nice :"D tanks / models with banners go to the bigger bottom drawer.

Might have something to do with sheer volume....?? The larger display cabinet you post might, might! hold 1/5 of my accumulated stuff, If I crammed it in base to base. I currently fill a closet with stuff in cases, boxes, etc. These are pretty much assembled armies . Then there's the set of shelves over one desk, also filled with boxes of stuff, altho about half of that is unassembled, only one assembled army on those shelves. Course, taht's the Nids and I play horde Nids............ Then there's the 6' tall, 30" wide bookshelf full of vehicles, and most shelves have a front row and a back row of vehicles. Then there's the other vehicles on the other bookshelves which also hold books. Then there's the plastic tubs of stuff in the OTHER closet. And then there is the small display case on top of a desk with a few (les than 50) better painted miniatures in it.
So anyways, yeah, stuff gets dusty, i clean it when I get ready to use it. But for me, pretty display cases aren't really an option for everything.

If you magnetise the bases and use metal shelves you could always double your storage capacity You dont seem to have left stuff out in the open though, it sounds like most of what you have is stored away from dust?

Magnetize, you mean stick them on the underside? Hehehehehehe, I can just see that!
Pretty much everything except the vehicles is stored away from dust, yes. Once upon a time I was going to get my own room in the basement, but that plan went away when my daughter and four granddaughters moved back in (divorce). But the granddaughters all have their own minis, one shelf on the bookshelf is their 'guys' and I've got a drawer in the desk for their paints and brushes. Forgot about the desk earlier. More stuff in the drawers and cabinets there.

jamsessionein, nice trunk.

Right now my gaming stuff is kind of all over the place. When I have a chance to go to the container store I'm buying a few more tubs and starting to pack 'non-critical' books in preparation of moving.

Once I move I hope to have (eventually) an 'office' area twice as big as I have now, and part of the expansion will be my upgraded mini assembly and painting area. Then I can centralize and go nuts with shelving, too.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.
