What I've understood after reading the FAQ is that they are going to seriously try to change the balance in WM to get more powerful Jacks opposed to the current situation where the jacks are not as effective as infantry. This is something which cannot be done with FAQ, as the changes need to be done in several levels in rules and point values. If this change brings the jacks back to the front I'm all for it as the big machines are reason I begun to play WM.

I'll be sad. I was drawn by the infantry. :(

Well I was looking at picking up a pair of Castigators, and a pair of Dervishes, but now that has been changed to one each. Aside from that change... I will still pick up everything else I had been planing on.

I hope that one of the changes is making the 'regular' version of a jack as appealing as the Character jacks. For example: Ol' Rowdy is about 25 points more than a regular Ironclad, but he's well worth it for the extra MAT and ARM alone, never mind the additional bonuses!

It sounds like the overall 'feel' of the game won't change much. Caster, a few jacks (maybe now, a few more), a few solos (maybe a few less), and some infantry. Combos will still rule the day.

Of course!

Here's a thought. Maybe the reason PP wants to make USRs thus making more room on the cards is to cram yet more special rules onto the cards! Ahhh!

As an official Battletech Demostrator, we've been pretty successful without completely revamping the rules. You can pick up a rulebook from 15 years ago and the differences are pretty minor.

With the proposed changes I may actually buy more. I have stoped buying new models and on a whole I hate the go look up the errate, THIS week they changed a, b, c, d, e, f, and g. But b and d contracdict changes that they changed before etc. From the looks of things standardizing some of the special rules will help cut down the need for all that jazz.

I also like warMACHINE for the WARMACHINES! I think that at this point the warmachines are often the least interesting point of the game (with some excetpions, but those are fairly rare). The proposed changes here also make me a little more interested in breaking out my jack heavy cygnar. I'm quite tired of the turtle, and darius is great but you know which jacks he brings. Every. single. time.

Anyway, at everyone who is upset about new rules : They change the rules every day in this game. Things that once were are no longer and things that were never considered are bound into faq now. At least a reset will put everything into one place. However, I don't see them changing their SOP though. I thought prime would stop the constant need for errata since t hey went through everything and cleanded it up right? I'm sure PP will stay PP and if you like it now I think you will contiue to like it in the new version. Individual points that you like dislike might change, but overall I think it will still be the same game, with a little more balance accross the units to compensate for buy this books models cuz there better.

I hope they do away with a lot of the 'interrupt the other guy's action' effects, which dramatically slow down the game.

I'll still buy figs but the books are out for me. I havent picked up Legends and wont be picking up Metomorphosis because essentially its just a 35$ fluff book once the new rules are released.

Try having almost all the books in hardback. Well at least I know all that nice art and fluff will be kept safe. If only they had a hardback Escalation though. It is the odd one out in the collection.

BattleTech has been in trouble many a time, and I don't think it's at the same level of market pentatration as PP and GW are. Maybe they could do with a reinvention. One that got rid of micro mechs, or whatever the hell they are, for instance.

They tried to reinvent it... That's why there is "Classic Battletech" to distinguish it from

Dunno. I hope they don't go down the army book path myself and continue their habit of releasing new stuff for each faction at the same time. Which means one faction doesn't get an awesome power up every 5 years and then a gradual power down until it becomes almost playable (you know who I'm talking about GW). Equally I want Jacks to be better and quite like the thought of only needing to buy one book for the basic rules.

When they do army books, I'm hoping that they have the rules panned out so that they
continue to release models even without the books.

I hope they do one of those GW/FoW style mini books that comes discounted/free with the faction decks. I also hope that the 'Faction books' are akin to faction collections anf that the game goes back to the all faction/story format when all the faction books have been released. I suspect 2009/2010 will feature re-releases in plastic as the main releases for Warmachine along with the Retribution.

I wonder if Mercs will be a single faction book or several contract books. The FAQ suggested that some mercenaries would be usable by new factions, I've not seen any speculation on that front yet. My top speculations are that Reinholt becomes a warcaster attachment and Eiryss will work for the Retribution.

I'm holding off buying right now more because we're going to move in the next four months than anything else. I'll probably pick up a few pieces once the dust settles, but since I had achieved fully painted on all my factions, I was at the point of only going for odds and ends anyway (unless I wanted to start a new faction, to which I say, 'behind me, Satan!').

Now, I DO regret getting rid of Sam Machorne & Co. on ebay last month... :(

I bought a tone of stuff lately, and will be filling out my Skorne army more later on in the year. But I wont be buying anything for warmachine.

Hordes is the more balanced, cleaner game, so I have less worry about changes. Infantry-machine needs a bit of rebalancing.

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

Hmm. Have to wait and see.

I put the game away and took up FoW and WHFB as I just had a hard time wraping my brain around the rules. Not to mention I run possible the worst 'jack army (Cygnar) that you can against warbeast armies, all of whom the locals seem to play exclusively .

Still, the new rules might be interesting. And a definite on eventual plastic minis. Really don't like working with big metal minis.

I bought Epic Krueger (technically Hordes) the IK Satixis Raider for my Satixis unit and another Alexia Thrall Warrior, given my overall expentiture on lead men this weekend that was fairly light spending I suppose. I nearly bought Stannis Brocker but thought better of it.

Now that I have my core army, I spend very little on the game. I've got three [technically 4] different casters, half a dozen jacks and several units of infantry plus some support solos. This gives me a lot of variety in making a selection for an army and as such I don't really need to spend anymore.

Other hobbies like RC cars, sailing, fishing, skiing, etc are in actually way way way way more expensive than tabletop gaming. Having worked in a Hobbytown USA, I know how many thousands of dollars model train enthusiasts spend on their own personal crack, so I don't feel mine is bad.

The new rules might not make me buy less, but they're going to make me buy cautiously, I feel. There are some changes that are going to make me buy extra models, however. With the change to Jack Marshals, my ideal fun list will probably support more jacks (Mariner, Mule and Buccaneer with Bart, and Dirty Meg pushing around a Nomad and a Talon).

I'm slightly less drawn to the Pirate Merc infantry now, but might end up buying a unit or two in some point in the future.

I'm weary of buying any more Metamorphosis stuff since the models are going to get nerfed in strange and generic ways in a year or so. Sadly I already have most Cryx stuff including everything from Legends.

I've been going through the numbers and comparing before and after results for the Mercs, and I think I've changed my mind to "not going to buy any more". There's just not enough of a good thing in evidence in the new rules for me to spend money frivolously.

Because of the infantry/unit changes, I'm debating getting another blister of Flameguard and IFP to round the units out (they're squads of 8 now).

Really glad I've got basically all the Khador and Rhulic 'jacks I could want (including several duplicates) but am thinking my Cygnar 'jacks may need some reinforcements (though I feel justified fielding a Charger all these years; too bad the Hunter got nerfed) and I'm starting to rethink what Menoth 'jacks (above the box set ones) and Caster (beyond pkreoss) I'm going to get to round out the force I just picked up (I'm thinking Reznik, the legendary Crusader, a devout, and...what? Redeemer or Vanquisher, probably).
