Ours does an endless rotation of Mechwarrior 2, Lord of the Rings, 300 and Conan the Barbarian. I'm sure the red shirts who work there have come to loathe it.

Heavy loud stuff usually. Unless it's a weekday and there's none of the yoof crowd in, then they listen to quieter things and occasionally classical.

The load rock music is probably disguising a subliminal message saying "BUY BUY BUY"

utulien of the imperium wrote:What kind of music is normally played at your local GW store?
for mine it's movie soundtracks and seasonal music.

There was a time (when I worked for GW) that it was all sound tracks with no words. Then it was soundtracks and some industrial/metal (disturbed, SOAD, etc) as long as the lyrics were radio safe. I'm not sure what they listen to much anymore, the last 3 times I went it was dead quiet as far a music was concerned..

we had the matrix soundtracks, lotr soundtracks, last samurai, metallica, disturbed, Soad, even some cruxshadow, the manager was a part time dj, so he mixed up alot of stuff, so it wasn't just the soundtrack. it would bounce from one style to the other. I think we had about 30 albums mixed up on 8 or 9 cd's .. we had a 5dc changer and would just hit random.. we had conan, but I grew to hate that soundtrack.. it's just too neutral for me..

Lord of the Rings.
Continuous Lord of the Rings.
I couldn't work there, because eventually I would stop playing Whr 40k and only play Lord of the Rings.

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands

Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

I can't tell you how much that used to piss me off.

"HEY! HEY! This is serious business here! You're ruining my immersion!"

The stores closer to me rock the soundtracks pretty exclusively, both Video Games and Movies. Dark Knight, Gladiator (That's the big one), Pirates, Starship Troopers (makes me gooey inside to watch Guard die to this), Star Wars (Albeit rarely), Dawn of War (doesn't get much more appropriate than that), Diablo, Command and Conquer, Warhammer Online, and other such assorted goodness. Personally, I LOVE these soundtracks, so I totally dig it. But I can see where some others might think it a tad boring.

Oh and I swear I heard the soundtrack to Beautiful Mind one time.

But man, I'd KILL to have them rock some of the hardest metal known to man, Dragonforce.

Could be Bolt Thrower. They were GW sponsored. Especially with the releases of "Warmaster" and "Realm ofChaos". All Bolt Thrower is good though. They actually sing about 40k...can't beat that!

On thread: My LGS doesn't play any music. The table area is way to big and up front they have Wii games on a big screen. They would have to play it so loud that gamers would have to shout to communicate.

I remember when all the regional managers made the staff listen to bolt thrower before cell meetings.. While I don't mind bolt thrower, if I want a daggone pep rally before a football game, I'll return to highschool.. it was hilarious watching the managers get all pumped up though.. lol

Ugh...

Though the teams that paint at Tabletop Game and Hobby are pretty open with what you pop in the CD player, Iron Maiden is pretty much the default music for my FLGS. While I respect 80's metal, it's nothing I would really choose to listen to. So I always bring in some of my own music, and so far they've never had a problem listening to it. They enjoy it, actually. And that's always a good thing.

Yea usually when I go up to Tabletop(on Sunday's usually, but I'm going to be up there on Saturday's from now on since that day is now free) it is usually 80's rock. Though on Sundays there aren't too many people there so I get listen to what I want. Which is either rock(pirate rock actually, gotta love Alestorm) or electronic/industrial.

When I worked at GW a while ago we were allowed to play pretty much anything we wanted to as long as it was radio safe (can't offend the kiddie's parents) and played at a reasonable volume. I usually went with prog rock (Dream Theater, Symphony X, Vanden Plas) classic rock (Zeppelin, the Doors, Kansas) or Johnny Cash. Can't beat the man in black.

Me and my friends generally play/paint at my house and we're usually listening to melodic death metal or grind. Usually Arch Enemy, Opeth, Children of Bodom or Carcass.

not new movies, or popular movies, but weird 70's and 80's things with small rabid cult followings. That, and a weird turkish(i think) starwars that had kung fu skeletons and the death star expodes 342 times in a row or so.

High-5 for the Symphony X mention.

There are 2 GW stores here in the Chicago area that I've been visiting almost a year now. Everytime I've been in them, there's either been no music playing at all, OR, if there is music, it's one of the LotR soundtracks, or the Gladiator soundtrack.

Which doesn't bother me at all. My d&d group also listens to those quite regularly, as they are really atmospheric soundtracks for gaming of all kinds.

Back when I was first introduced to GW in the late 80's, I visited the GW store in the Laurel Mall, and sometimes the cute lady behind the counter would be playing some Rush. Man, how I loved visiting that store for both the sights AND sounds!

Up in The Chicago Bunker I rarely, or come to think of it, hear NO music at all ever, while I go down to the hobby center in Willowbrook, Texas and they play LOTR, POTC, any soudtrack to an epic movie that came out in the last ten years. I think some metal would definetly make the mood better, specially when you get all the winy little twelve year olds who know everything about everything.
