To be honest it doesn't look great, but I don't really care about the cover art.

It's whats inside that I'm interested in. mmmmm Tanks

To be honest, I actually like it, but I am a fan of sketchy artwork for 40k (Heresy: I also like John Blanche's work, a lot in fact).

You've got the touch!

Imperial Guard has always been the exception. While other covers featured heroic leaders doing boner inducing things, the Imperial Guard books always feature the basic dog-faced soldier, nothing fancy. Just look at the previous two codex books and the old Cityfight codex.

Doesn't a mass of faceless grunts clearly establish what the basic Guard looks like better than any heroic individual possibly could?

Considering this picture is on the UK GW as part of the "In-store Activities this May" page, it might just be the cover. Besides, quite a few people that (supposedly) attended the GW Open Day claimed it is the same cover picture shown there.

That's undoubtedly because it was painted by David Gallagher the same artist who did the cover art for The Empire Army book.

I like it. It has the usual battle scene in the front, but this time it has depth to it and gives you an actual feel of how big the IG is.

I mean look in the background, theres an open hatch/giant ramp with hundreds of thousands of troops on it, and even further in the background are even more ships with more guys and more tanks and holy crap theres alot of stuff.

Meh. I'm just interested on the inside. I don't take that tone with dating though, totally superficial.

I likes it. A massive sea of Guardsmen with untold reinforcements behind them, and commanders just struggling to be on top of the meat-hill so everyone can see how much bigger their hats are. Overkill to the tenth degree, mass exaggeration. If that's not the embodiement of the Guard, the hell is?!

Also, the Imperial Cruiser in the background gives me wood. I won't deny it.

For some reason this is the first thing that popped in my mind when I saw that. I chuckled:

"That's when things broke down and we just started HITTING them with our SWORDS".

On cursory inspection, the banners look very similar to the new Command Squad banners. Not that that would mean anything, it's just something I noticed. (But then again, how different are banners going to look, anyways?)

Is that a quote from something? It should be.

Also, this should be:

"I developed the term "sawdomized" to describe the unique process by which I carve men. On the Bunting-Friedmann Threat Index, I clock in somewhere between Bruce Lee and Bahamut from Final Fantasy X. "

By which I mean the Bunting-Friedmann threat Index shuld mean something. but as far as I can tell, it does not.

Just came to me. Though I'm sure I was drawing on the memory of this picture from somewhere in the back of my head:

Seems a natural progression, is all I'm sayin'.

Quick! Someone make a new motivational! "Imperial Guard: For when you want to kill a thousand of something".

I would but I'm... too drunk...

I just want to say that when I saw this picture, I cracked up laughing. What is that in internet speak? Ah, yes: "ROTFLMAO." That image made me "rot-ful-mao" real good.

It's really impossible to say whether this is a cover to the new Codex or just some box art for one of the new plastic sets. It's cropped all weird, so the composition is impossible to discern. If we could see the whole piece, it would be a lot easier to figure out what we're looking at.

That actually just made me think that it's not the cover art.
It might be like that massive two page spread of Creed and Kell leading the charge on Tyrok Fields in the current IG codex.

...which makes me want to see the full thing more

That should not be the cover art. That is one campy throwback to pre-2nd edition... Neither attractive nor enticing.

Heck, I'd rather see the "Drive Me Closer" poster as the cover for the new Codex.

Oh man that cover is so overpowered! It better not be the real cover. If you ask me it looks like some fanboys wish list of the cover. If GW releases that cover, that's it I'm just going to up and sell all my models and drop 40k like an ex-wife!

Thus marks maybe the second time I have every agreed with Nurgy.

I would, of course, by two. And possibly steal a 6' promo-poster.

As is, blech, I am not feeling this current possibility of cover art.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.
