An enterprising webcrawler over at warseer found a new IG painting that definitely has a cover "feel" to it on the UK GW website. Since the previous IG thread here was just locked and I didn't see it posted here on dakka, here ya go.

edit: i changed the subject as there are now two guard covers floating around, both from the same GW page linked on page 3. my guess is the latest one (which is identical to the first leaked pic) is the final one.

The last one was better.

There is a dispute about whether that is the cover. Its taken from a GW gaming poster. Agreed, if so its sucketitious due to its washed out nature.

*shrug* that's cool. I just wantt o see what's inside.

Agreed, and why I called it "Probable". As for the washed out nature, it's more realistic for guardsmen. Other armies have fancy nightvision equipment and electronics. The guard can't afford sunglasses let alone nightvision according to the painting so of course they'll fight at 10am looking directly into the sun!

I don't really care about the cover, either. It has a lot of people standing on some sort of hill firing at some other people that you can't see. Business as usual I say.

Pretty standard art material, from the looks of it....

But it's hard not to imagine one Fire Prism shot centered on the guy holding the flag....

Its fething ugly and the art is bad. Crudely drawn, it makes 2nd ed covers look like masterpieces.

I pity the IG player who would have to look at that every time he picks up his codex.

If I were them I would rip the cover off and wipe my ass with it to send back to GW slapped on top of Paul Sawyers fat bald greasy face after I signed the cover "To Jervis, with love!".

Seriously, that cant be the new cover. Its a horrendous monstrosity.

I wouldnt pay $30 for that. Its a joke.

Interesting though, the Star Destroyer-like landing craft in the background (way in the back, from Ep II)

Who knows, it probably takes 10x longer to paint the art now than it does to design the models, what with CAD and all, maybe they are cutting corners in the art dept.

This looks like it's done by the same artist who did a lot of the art from the Chaos codex. GW get rid of him NOW!

The rules will more than make up for this anyway.

Oh yeah, that's the new cover, using pretty much the same style as the Empire army book.

I guess this really is a rumour in the truest sense. Someone says one thing, and the next thing you know its blown all out of proportion.

I think it needs more grim darkness. And tanks, because GW just seems to favour them.

People who have supposedly seen the codex say its the artwork for the cover. A scan of the poster however was the only way to show what it looked like. In the past GW has used codex cover art to do publicity and promotional posters leading up to a codex's release. This is about when they'd start to distribute such posters. Other than it being new art, it helps that paintings done for the covers are usually done as large as a poster, so their is less issue with blowing it up to that size. I think it is the cover, much to my dismay.

Only thing missing on the cover is the Valkyrie

it looks good from a composition standpoint but I'd like to see the quality of the artwork a little better, especially for the fellas in the foreground

It doesn't seem unlikely to me that this art could be the cover. Overall I have not been a fan of a lot of new codex art. The new SM and CSM have been fairly uninteresting to me, and this one is pretty boring too.

Well, not dull. Just kind of... generic IG art.

I'd much prefer to see a shot of some RR ploughing into some CSM termies or something.

That or a Commisar riding a giant robot dog and firing giant machine gun, which is also his face.

That would rule so hard.

On the bright side, at least no one is shooting at the ground while running...

That thing is hideous! I am a GW fanboy, but that just sucks.

That is *NOT* the new cover.

The new cover will have one Guardsman figure prominently, taking up ~40% of the total visible space on the front.

GW has figured out that the Codex should clearly show what the basic soldier looks like for the army in question, so the player can't forget which army it is - just look at CSM and SM.

How about a commissar shooting the retreating leader in the head while impaling an ork on his sword......but all while riding a giant robot dog, who is also a machine gun.
