Here is a second design from me:

The X3-PL "Lurker" is a mecha that can take on a variety of roles. Designed primarily for stealth assassinations of human targets, this is a vicious killing machine. It has also proved to be excellent at infiltration/surveillance work and has also found use as a trap; waiting underground until troops pass which it will quickly rip through.

My last entry:

This should be used to represent a vindicare assassin, just add sniper rifle!

Here a (very) rough sketch of an idea.
basically a member of some assasin cult, who is stripped down to virtually no armor relying on speed and stealth. the legs however are cybernetically inhanced for inclreased agility, and also give the ability to jump extremely high and land safely from extreme falls, as well as enhancing the assasins speed.

EDIT: rough indeeed:

Technoscream, you a sketchup user too?

I remember using sketchup to design a house once. It's not a horrible program, but I'd never use it to make a robot.

Love 3DSmax though. Technoscream, you should look into trying max out, it's an excellent program.

Anyway, I think I'll draw up one or two more entries, just to get as many ideas out as I can.

EDIT: Another old picture from the annals of the forgotten sketchbook (it's a good thing I save pictures for later).

A more techno ghostly assassin for you. He's less mechanical then the previous entries, but more... creepy. Also, he's supposed to have wires coming out of his back that aren't in this picture. If this design gets nominated, I'll obviously have to draw a few more views of this guy, since his design is a bit complex.

And yes, his right hand is a little screwed up. I drew him when I was kind of half-asleep, so he ended up with two left hands. I tried to fix it as best I could, but his thumb is still... weird. This design ended up leading up to another character's design, which if you want, I can also show you.

Hmm. Decided to ressurect this thread with some more preliminary design sketches.

basically my assasin would represent a cult formed by the adeptus mechanus, made to protect their interests in various ways. Because the inquisition has no monopoly on corruption
(yes, i realize he isn't finished. and the tube thing down the middle is screwed up too.)

anyway, this thread needs to liven up! feel free to ask about the design or comment on it. After all, we all want a mind-blowing miniature in the end.

Nice inking. Thing is, whenever I see a futuristic chick, I can't help but think of Ghost in the Shell. Of course, that's not a bad thing, it was a wonderful movie, but its a slightly unsettling feeling.

Well, they're all works that either were originally for use in my portfolio, or for projects that either never got started, or were dumped. I just figured that they're still all some really nice designs that deserve to be given life somehow.

But... um... what does fewter mean?

Well guys, sorry for not being more active on my own thread! It was, shall we say, a busy weekend

I can tell you all now, there are some obvious contenders for the win right here already!!

@ Fafnir

Dude, you are knocking out some amazing concepts, I really like the look and feel of your designs. My only worry, is that the concepts don't have enough detailed views for direct handover to a sculptor. That means that if one of your concepts were chosen, and you accepted (of course) you'd have to get to work producing more views etc.

Don't take this too personally, everyone is currently making that mistake. This is the difference between a stunning illustration and a model design.

@ Keezus

Your female assassin is a top contender as well, I like the style of the design and the content. The character would be at home in many different settings (Infinity, WH40K, etc) and that adds to her appeal. The design isn't too cluttered, and you've maintained the "humanity" of the figure. I could see that design getting produced by someone like Werner Klocke....in short, it would rock!

@ Technoscream

Funnily enough, I love the snake idea. Its clean, simple, and gets the point across. Its also nothing like what I imagined for this "contest" so it really blind-sided me to see that. Excellent stuff.

@ Fiendcracker

Hmm, again, interesting concepts. I like the idea of a Mechanicus assassin....I never thought of that, and I'm sure the Mechanicus has its fair share of dirty work that needs doing! I'm not sure what to make of the Inquisitors pet? I could see someting like that spawning from the minds of the Forge World staff it would look amazing in resin! However, I'm wondering if its a step too far outside the realm of stealthy assassin.....more like a henchman, hired muscle, mutant type affair.

@ Everyone

I want to thank everyone who has taken part so far, and posted they're designs and sketches. If I had the money, looking at the designs that are there, I'd probably go for more than one of these designs, and who knows, with the artists permission, maybe more than one could be produced over time.

Please keep the designs coming, and please feel free to throw in any fluff that helps to describe your ideas (not mandatory, of course!)

Thanks again guys. Great work!

I'd be more then happy to do other views of my designs, and were any of them chosen, I'd begin drawing alternate views of the selected design right away. I'd do it from the get go, but quite frankly, the designs I've submitted are quite complex and require a lot of work to get right, I just want to make sure that what I'm doing is what will be used before I do any of it.

If you want to see the quality of my final blueprints, here's a blueprint to final model comparison, and how they translate:

Of course, those aren't for entry in the contest. Unless you really wanted them to. However, if you did, I would have to retain full rights to the design and model, since I intend to use them on future projects, as oppossed to the 50/50 that you suggest. This is just an example of my blueprint work. Not really fitting of the idea of an assassin either.

Don't take this too personally, everyone is currently making that mistake. This is the difference between a stunning illustration and a model design.

No worries. For what I want to do with my (hopefully) future career, I need to be able to do both, and I need the practice for that.

I'm not sure whether that's funny or insulting.

Then again, most things that are funny are likely to offend some people, so I will admit that it's not horrible, and some slight lulz were had. Although it was overall quite lame.

Dude, if you couldn't tell that was a joke, you need to adjust your sense of humor.

If you need the ego stroking which it seems you do, I think you art is great, and not lame at all.

And how could you possibly think that was insulting? As if I thought mine was in any way better than yours or any of the other awesome art that people have posted? Come on buddy, have a little more self confidence, geez! Mine is meant to be stupid!

I am still laughing at my own stupid picture, at least that is someone!

The thing is, jokes are supposed to be funny.

Stupid isn't always funny. It's also a matter of taste. The thing about a joke is that it needs to be legitimatly funny, and when it's not, it's nothing more then an insult. I understand that it's a joke, and I understand where it's coming from, but it was made in poor taste.

Simply put, unfunny joke is unfunny. I'm not saying that your joke was legitimatly offensive. It was just lame.

Hahaha, holy crap, you are mad.

Well you know what, I apologize. You are a very good artist, and I am not, which I thought would be obvious by my very bad two minute microsoft paint assassin. I didn't think there was any way anyone would take that thing seriously!

How this offends you still bewilders me but obviously this competition means a lot to you and I had no intentions of uspeting anyone. I had hoped to brighten some peoples' day as they scrolled thorugh the great pictures then came to my crappy one and busted out laughing.

I still think its really funny, but you obviously do not. So again, sorry to upset you, that was not the intention.

Good luck in the competition.

I think the idea of a female sniper would be based around the fact that she wouldn't let her femininity get in the way of combat effectiveness. I think the model could also feature breasts that have been held down with banding, or whatever.

One point: I think the armor plating should be on the opposite leg, since that's the leg that's going to be "forward" in a kneeling firing stance. I think having that side of her chest and shoulder also be armored would add to the "realism" factor as well.

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

Trouble is, you have to be a really good sculptor (better than GW's, anyway) to pull of a face that's good looking and is obviously a woman without hair. I mean, we do want her to be good looking, right?

Anyway, Fafnir and Reecius, your argument is really stupid. I don't really even quite know how that got heated, but it shouldn't have. Reecius, I thought your drawing was hilarious, and shouldn't have sparked any debate besides one about whether the "I just spat X on my keyboard" meme is still funny. Fafnir, I thought your art was really good, although slightly less after your lame post about Reecius's art.

But let's move along, shall we?

@ Reecius

I did realise you were joking, and on a thread like this, public domain, its clear that at some point, someone was going to do what you did. I think the down side with that type of thing, if you can call it a downside, is that some people are taking this rather more seriously (me included) so its bound to rub some poeple up the wrong way.

Imagine how the formula 1 drivers would feel if they're tearing around the track trying to win the drivers championship, and then, popping out the pit lanes comes a Nissan Bluebird....just for laughs! Its not a case of people having a lack humour, they're just focused on achieving a different goal, as opposed to "having a laugh".....in the end, no harm done.

Anyway, the subject has been given enough air time, so I shall move on.

@ Fiendcracker

I really like that Mechanicus assassin. I actually think something like that would, like the female assassin, and the work being submitted by Fafnir, would achieve a great crossover and still be "current" for WH40K. I'm surprised GW haven't considered this themselves......

@ Willydstyle

I like the suggestions you made about the female Assassin, I think that those additions would make the character even more edgy and would certainly make the figure a very desirable piece! The attention to detail, which admittedly, I missed, and I'm talking about the leg armour location, would make this figure a sure fire hit.....now, is the artist willing to make those mods?

@ Fafnir

I figured that the designs could be elaborated on, if needs be, I guess I was just making sure as opposed to simply assuming (hoping) that would be the case

I had no idea this is your intended career path, so good luck on all counts!

Man down, Man down....
