I think it's just a bit of scenery. I've got one, but it came in the battleforce, so I just stuck it onto the base of one of my Guardians.

lol, that would become a 2 part tutorial.

all i did was: paint the gem with warlock purple, a white dot and a white line on the opposite side of the gem, and painted the trim with mithril silver

Impressive stuff all round, shows what you can do with a steady hand and probably lots of patience (which I don't have).
