This really does look excellent. The ammount of work and attention to detail that you are putting into this piece really is admirable. I imagine it will be a great centrepiece for your game board and should be lots of fun to play on.
Do you plan on adding any stained glass to the intact windows?
As for the earlier suggestion of speakers, you could try the vox backpacks from the Cadian set.

I've got some broken plastic in the windows, I've never tried to paint it, but I was thinking about it.
Is that box set a FW or GW item?

After some consideration I decided I needed to scrap the 2nd level with towers. I'll just save those for another project. I've re-cut the second level and started adding the windows and structure. I then started the basic structure of the roof. Overall it's just over 2 feet, smaller than I originally planned. I started thinking about those cardboard & plastic buildings that came with the original Epic Space Marine, I think I want to build one of those next.

This is turning out really well man! I am glad to see how you put together the floor with the COD walls. I have been saving the cathedral bits from my COD and planning on doing a similar sort of thing, but I don't have half the skill at using random things that you seem to, so this is really handy for me!
That and the tile for the courtyard is just awesome. Are you planning on putting some detail trim around the doors?

As for the barricades at the doors and he blocks under the first floor windows, how about pews? Make it look like they just picked them up and used them to block the doors and stand on at the windows. Would make sense to have plenty of them in a cathedral.

The exterior of the doors is trimmed, I try not to was good pieces-so I won't be trimming the interior.
Shellfishguy wrote:As for the barricades at the doors and he blocks under the first floor windows, how about pews?
That was what I first considered. I knew I would need something by the windows since I elevated them (for game purposes at least). But there is also going to be a good deal of rubble and debris in there. Trying to make pews that looks good, and work in the game sounds a bit tough. There is also a battle between making something cool looking, and making it game functional.

I've been thinking about the next piece to work on, I'm thinking that a 40K scale version of one of the box set buildings that came with Epic!
The six story 'T' shaped building. I figure it will be mostly solid with a hole blown in it. Maybe a landing platform on top (like the new one from GW?)

Well I think I've complete all the major work. There are some railings and misc details to put up, I have to finish gluing some of the second floor together and cleaning up the edge. Then all I have to do is add rubble piles, maybe a couple barricades, then base coat. I can't really paint right now, so I think it's on to the next project.
Let me know what you think and if there is anything else I should change/add. Don't forget that you can click on the images to view in gallery-there you can zoom in.
And for a teaser of what I'm working on next...

I don't gush much, only when it's deserved; this is well deserved.
...now, it just needs a paint job that is at least half as good as is the model itself. Heaven forfend a "grey with a dry-brush of grey" paint job.

I decided to get the local store to play test my piece, so I want to bring it to the base coat stage, that means finishing more of the details first. I've started completing the unfinished structural supports of the second and third levels. I'm adding the rubble on the first level. Decided to toss in one of those biker barricades for cover in the front.

Okay, I'll have to get back to tiling the kitchen, so this will probably be the last update for a while. Not satisfied with the level of rubble, I added another level to the existing. I've been working on a technique of mixing PVA, H2O and some generic acrylic that I can spray onto a model to fix everything and protect the foam for spray paint base coat. I'm still working on it. I want to add more debris to the top level, but wonder if the rock rubble would look too weird since everything on the top is wood. I'm not sure what to do, any ideas? I added a bit more bits to the front of the second level, just a little bit of rubble on the balcony. When I put these pieces on the side to dry I realized that if you needed you could use them as two buildings, three if you wanted just a roof as a piece too. Moving on to my Epic building, I've started the first couple floors. I've quickly realized that the problem with a piece this large is the amount of windows needed. I've got enough of the same style to make it the first 3 stories. Unfortunately that is only half of what I need. I'm currently trying to figure if I've god another substitute for the windows, or figure out how to deal with only 3 stories. Having all my stuff out and nothing to do I decided to throw a GW crater on a vinyl tile, a couple COD pieces, some sprue ruins and rocks and BAM! And here I've got some foam gluing to a base which I will make more ruins from. And here is the tile entrance I did for the next 2'x2' board after the Epic building.

Started playing around with that cheap GW airbrush. I can't tell whether it needs more 'stuff'. Does it seem too plain?
In the meanwhile I've been gluing the first couple floors of the Epic building. Because of the scale of these terrain pieces I've been fixing the walls with construction adhesive, it takes 24 hours at really set-but this is much strong than any PVA or CA glue.
I've decided that I probably used twice as many windows on the first two floors than I needed. The next couple floors with have a larger window spacing, this will give me more windows to work with. I'm currently trying to figure how to create the third and forth floor structures with building damage.

Fantastic work!
As for more details for the top floor, you could always grab a couple aquila from the Rhino plastic kit and put them up on the wall, maybe have them broken and on the floor. Perhaps a small pulpit or small devotional statue of a saint

The only work I've done for the cathedral is this eagle statue for the roof.
For the epic building I build up the second half with an internal structure and coverings with the major damage. It's been slow going, I'm using two part epoxy for these parts. Once all the structure is established I'll begin with the first level of details.
For scale purposes you may see that acolyte below that red anvil in the bottom of the pic.

Been adding architectural elements like cornices and structural supports.
I'll have to gap fill some of the moldings.
Adding some of the interior detail for the damaged areas.
I think this photo would have been cool if everything was painted.
I think I'll put this building to the side for a while, getting burnt out doing repetitive work. I'm not ready to begin the work on my Mechanium piece. I've ordered some interesting ruin bits and some more COD sprues. I'm not sure what else I should build, does anybody have any ideas?

Started priming the cathedral and decided the second level front was in need of more detail. Added some structual stuff.
I've also wrapped up a couple quick pieces for a possible game tomorrow. I've got some more building pieces coming in the mail, I'll need to make some more city block bases before I begin them.

Got the local gamers to play on the terrain.
Here are four pieces I threw together real quick and easy.
1) Just a MDF sidewalk base, some HD Foam and rocks and sand, toothpicks. Quick and easy.
Found a couple spots that need some more glue and sand.
2) Just a GW crater on a vinyl floor tile on an MDF board with some COD pieces.
3) Another MDF sidewalk board, some GW barricades and building corners from the box set.
4) Floor tile, GW barricades & COD pieces.
The Cathedral worked out really well, there are a few spots where I'll add a few more details. The magnetic sectioning of the levels worked really well.
Roof - Floors 4,5 & 6.
Second level - Floors 2 & 3.
There will be a banner hanging from the hooks on the right.
First level details.
The entire thing.
As always, be sure to click on the photo's to zoom in for detail, can you find the skeleton in the rubble?
