Spoiler:
Totally agree, twas dumb speculation on Stykers behalf. Besides wouldn’t that mean there would be 2 permanent bullet holes in his adamantium skull? Entry and exit wound.

Xavier's cameo was a bit bizarre, the CGI was actually worse than at the start of X-3, a film that’s 2 years old now. It also makes Xavier's reaction to Wolverine in X1 more difficult to rationalise as this film implies Xavier was well aware of who Wolverine was and what he was up to. Why else would he turn up at the end? Wouldn’t most the pupils at Xavier's know who Wolverine was in X-men1? It would be fairly common knowledge that he rescued previous pupils, including Cyclops! Also the Cyclops Cameo was a bit strange. He looked about 17-18. Considering that its set 15 years before X-1 I would have though he would be about 10-12.

Did anyone also think it was a bit weird that Wolverine and Sabretooth had their feral appearance in the War sequences? Ok the ACW I can forgive, It's a war well known for insane facial hair. But in WW1, 2 and Nam it just looked wrong. Shouldn’t they have been serving in the Canadian forces rather than the American ones anyway?

Personally I think the film would have been better had it been set after X-men 3, showing Wolverine continuing to trace his past steps and discovering his origins via investigation. Slowly discovering his past relationship with Sabretooth would have been so much better.

Also Building up such a critical relationship with Sabretooth kind of makes X-men 1's end and Sabretooth possible death at Liberty Island seem a tad anti-climactic. That’s not really this films fault though.

Both the credit/posr credit sequences were awful. The styker one makes no sense. How on earth does he end up in charge of a top secret anti-mutant task force when he's been implicated in the Murder of a senior officer? The after credit one with Wolverine in the bar was utterly pointless.

I was also unhappy with the fact that so many great mutants have such tiny cameo appearances. It would have been better with 1 or 2 mutants that were really focused on.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the film. But it was a missed opportunity on so many levels.

I understand Origins Magneto is planned. Considering that’s going to Involve the Holocaust I'm expecting a much darker tone than this film. Anything less may well be seen exploitative.

It was like X-Men 3, a lot of stuff to wade through (no pun intanded), but worth it for the fight at the end.

What they did to Deadpool was inexcusable though. I really want a Deadpool with Ryan Reynolds playing the part (he was perfect at the beginning - everything Deadpool should be)... but I think they've screwed the chances of that.

I'm not a Ryan Reynolds fan. And having him play a superhero is like having Ed O'Neill play a serious role. I know he's an actor, but I can't get past, "hey, it's Van Wilder (or Al Bundy)."

Already acquired tickets. This is not to disparage Deadpool fans, but I don't know Deadpool nor frankly care. i think most of the people seeing this flick are seeing it due to Wolverine and Sabretooth, with a big (oh there are other people?).

And Gambit of course.

I thought the ending was well-done, but I missed Wolverine's after-credits part, so I'll have to see it again (Damn... )

Perhaps after Wolverine got shot, he mind was sorta fuzzy and Dr. Xavier was too distracted by the kids he'd just recruited. Dunno, but it's not really worth obsessing over.

Slightly related to this I've been watching the new cartoon series Wolverine and the X-Men thanks to BBC player. I've also been watching the old X-men series for the early 90's on youtube.

I must say its a shame to see 'kids' cartoons put the recent X-men films to shame in terms of character development and interesting stories.

"Wolverine and the X-Men" is not nearly as good as "X-Men Evolution" which to me Marvel's best animated series so far. The entire first season is just for introducing characters.

Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.

You guys are too hung up by canon.

After seeing a movie...were you entertained? If you let a lack of "sticking to the story" keep you from enjoying a "decent" movie, you need to reevaluate your reasons for going and seeing comic movies. They rarely stick to canon totally for the sake of telling the story cleanly within the span of an hour and a half to 3 hours.

Here's a shocker for you Dark Knight fans....Batman isnt a ninja.

...of course maybe you guys would be happier without these movies coming out. You should've been my age when Superman: the movie came out. It was all we had and we were DYING for superhero flicks...when all they came out with were dirty harry movies...well, and star wars. Be glad you HAVE these awesome eye candy flicks with your favorite characters from the comics.

No, he isn't, but the difference between the Dark Knight and This pile of crap, is that Dark Knight was actually good. Re-Imagining the established Canon is all well and good, and sometimes a series can be stronger because of it, but ONLY if you do it well.

It's one of the reasons why LotR went down well with fans of the book, as did Watchmen (for the most part).

Wolverine was, for the most part, Dull, Boring, Unexciting, and just a trial to Watch. Sonic SatAM had more character development than it FFS, and that was a low Budget Kids show.

I think you're being a little harsh with the "steaming pile of crap" referance then stating how they get something in the history of the character wrong.

Changing a characters history doesnt make a movie a "steaming pile". The reason you gave in your spoiler line isnt enough to RUIN a movie.

You're too hung up on established storylines and need to open your mind.

No, don't get me wrong. I don't mind the changing of a characters background. If they had kept the "Radioactive Spider" rubbish in the Spiderman films, I'd have walked out in seconds. Changes do need to be made, and I accept that. However, they go down better if they have a good movie to back it up.

Wolverine was, I hate to say it, Boring. The Action sequences were not engrossing, and were drawn out and boring and predictable. Not to mention it cause a bunch of continuity problems with the films proper, which is another mark against the overall level of the film.

By far the worst bit was
Spoiler:

I've read just about every Wolverine comic there is. I have no problem at all with the changes. I actually like this movie better than any of the X flicks. And Gwar ! The reason why Cyclops was able to lead the other mutants out is because he was in psychic rapport with Dr. Banner. I think I will go see this movie again today !!!

Regarding Deadpool as a character:
With the amount of time he is on screen, how else would you characterize Deadpool than "Wise-cracking Smartass who is a Badass in combat"?
From the comics I read, that is him in a nutshell. IMO, in the movie it is early enough in his career to be him without the cynicism of being damaged.

Also, it isn't like he is the most original character in the comics.
He was Spiderman with a meaner, cynical attitude, mixed with SnakeEyes. Created by the guy who drew Spidey for years, then created Spawn.

Actually, they based Deadpool off Deathstroke from Teen Titans but made him a smart-ass instead of all serious.

I'm.....dissapointed. It wasn't quite as big of a letdown as X3 was, but it's not what I would call a good superhero movie. Jackman was surprisingly unlikeable. All he did was growl and look angry and every scene with his girl were way too kitschy. And that whole story about the moon was very....useless.
They did a few things right though. I was quite satisfied with how they handled Gambit and Blob was okay too. I never heard of that black Teleporter dude before, but I guess he was okay.
The way they handled the Wolverine/Sabretooth relationship was nice, but it kinda screws up X-Men 1.
Okay, here's the spoilery part:
Spoiler:

1.) I don't want to sound like a rabbid fanboy but.....WHY DID THEY HAVE TO SCREW UP DEADPOOL SO MUCH?! .... ehem, sorry for that. No seriously, he has a few nice lines in the beginning, but it doesn't do the character justice.....which I actually could've lived with, if they didn't make him into weapon XI in the end.
2.) Xavier looked really awkward. What did they do with him?
3.) I could've lived with the fact that Logan loses his memory because he got hit with an Adamtium bullet in the head, but not that Striker actually uses that as reason to shoot him. That's just dumb.

And I have a question for the US user who saw the finished version of the movie, not the bootleg.
Spoiler:
Does he blow up the helicopter with Zero inside? Because I read on a german movie page how they cut it out, which is really ridicoulus considering you actually see Logan decapitate Weapon XI!

So, it's now Ghost Rider, but it ain't X-Men united either. Watch at your own risk.

Spoiler:
they don't show it explicitly, but they show him light a trail of fuel leading towards the chopper and then show him walking away from a gigantic awesome explosion. which was cool enough IMO
