I remembered when Warmachine was first released and the mystery behind them. It's pretty cool to see the progression. If the models are half as cool as the pics then I will seriously consider picking some up.

Doug Seacat's response to all the wild speculations:

One fun aspect of this exercise in slow reveals is how much it demonstrates that an incomplete perspective can prompt people to make odd conclusions. Once you see the whole image you'll have a better idea of things, but it should nonetheless be kept in mind that there is quite a bit of depth to this scene, allowing for our tiny elves in the back and our larger ones in the front. One might expect the entity revealed today is set back a bit from whatever is in the center, perhaps by several paces. It might be standing on a closer depth to (if a bit in front of) those plucky soldiers to its right. If that were the case, this entity appears to be quite large and formidable.

I think it is a safe bet that this thing is at least twice the height of a man, and might weigh several tons or more. I would be inclined to guess that there is no one crawling around inside its frame. While it is certainly a greater leap in deduction and by no means proven given the evidence on hand, a bold speculator might go so far as to construe that this thing might be mentally connected to some variety of fighting sorcerer who both empowers and controls it as it marches to war. Then again, maybe not.

The artwork is looking better. If that is an Elf Warjack, I may now have a use for my extra Wraithlord swords. Easy conversion.

It's definitely peaking my interest after not having played in a couple of years.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Hmmm...The Myrmidon looks ok, I'd like to see more of it before I pass a final judgment. I thought that they were going to look like either Aura Battler Dubine or something out of Escaflowne and it looks like I was right.

The new piece up today looks rather interesting, my guess is it's a solo, not a caster. Reasons? I believe the main caster will take the front and center part of the cover, so far he or she has a bird, and a cloak.

Now, my questions are:
1) If a Gencon release will they sell the Retribution online for those not able to go? If not, then I need a ninja shopper!

2) Metal or Plastic? I am hoping for an almost all plastic faction. I'd love for the Myrmidon's, The Man O War looking swordsmen and the riflemen to be plastic, with Solo's and Casters being metal.

Hopefully we'll get to see more really soon. Though I do miss the days when prime was being released and escalation when PP would put on their website the concept art of various things.

Looking good so far and most likely will be my next Warmachine faction after Khador!

The big question is what the Starter will be like...

I'm guessing...
1 Farseer
1 Wraithlord
2 Wraithguard

- kinda like Cygnar's setup
What say you?

I wonder if they didn't have pointy ears or weren't called elves if people still would have arrived at an Eldar comparison.

I wonder if tech + elves = eldar just by default.

You're not making sense. Cygnar's starter has a warcaster, an Ironclad, a Lancer,
and a Charger. You could have done the Eldar/Cygnar thing by at least mixing the names.

Farcaster
Wraithclad
Wraith Node and a
Wraithjack

You know, be funnier.

Or funny at all.

Since the purpose of a pre-release at a Con is to drum up hype and attendance, I doubt they will release it online. Get a ninja shopper or wait the extra 3 weeks for it to show up in stores.

2) Metal or Plastic? I am hoping for an almost all plastic faction. I'd love for the Myrmidon's, The Man O War looking swordsmen and the riflemen to be plastic, with Solo's and Casters being metal.

No one outside of PP knows at this point. They did say that at some point they would have metal characters and plastic units and jacks, but no one yet knows if that time is now.

My gut reaction was that they looked like Tau cause of the rectangular rifles, but I could just be high on "the drugs".

*Looks for a ninja Shopper, preferably one who won't stiff me*

I am still curious as the the rest of the Myrmidon. The turbines, or whatever they are on the shoulders could make or break the model for me.

I do like the fact that they have those heavily armored Swordsmen. Most fantasy elves are not as heavily armored. These guys look like they'd give Khador Man O wars a run for their money =D

And you are?

That giant robot is basically a Wraithlord. As Elves are weedy, I'd expect a couple mediums, rather than a 2nd large (Khador) or multiple small (Cryx).

I'm pretty weedy*, but I could probably learn to drive a tank. If Elves have the tech, I don't see why they wouldn't build the most useful machine they could. They aren't Eldar or GW Wood Elves. From what I remember, the elves in the Iron Kingdoms (from the RP material) are truly an elder race... More like the WHFB Slaan, perhaps. A lot of those really ancient ruins were built by the elves, and they didn't have a problem with building some truly monstrous constructs to do so if they want to.

Not every army has to pick a theme and act it out literally. Games can try to be a bit subtle.

*OK, actually I'm overweight and stocky. I'd still suck in a fight.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Oh, I'm sure they could build monsters and such.

But look at the robot in the picture - it's not some big dumb Khador brick.

OK, yeah, though I think I'd have used the words "curvier & more sculpted"...

Still, these Elves have me more interested in WM than I've been in years. I think that the designs look pretty good, and should be fun to field as a complement and give nice a contrast to my Cryx.
