This project is certainly impressive especially since the design seems to be completely original. I like how you managed to make the legs movable.
Looking forward to seeing the progress.

I also think the scale compared to the epic one is the most accurate.

I need to make one. My store does somewhat regular "tank battles" using Apoc. Rules (like Tanksgiving, I suppose) and this would be a legal entry. HAH! That would make people crap their pants.
Edit:
How does one even build these suckers? Is it ALL plasticard and nifty bits? I am tempted to sink money into one, but how much does it run for the supplies usually?
Going by the Apocalypse picture, what height should a Warlord be? 22"-23" or so?

I wonder how much this would set me back. The one in the OP was ~$200, if I remember reading his article on BoLS correctly. That is a steep price, but the thing is just awesome.
Anyone have any links to templates or blueprints, by some odd chance?

I see little advantage in descending a ladder for 15 or so feet from a portal say 100 feet above the ground especially when all there is at the end of the descent is a blank wall. What is the purpose of the ladder and why is it so outsized compared to similar accessories on other vehicles such as the access ladders behind the sponsons on a Baneblade. The rungs are too far apart and the width would accomodate two men at the same time. Bringing a mobile loading bridge to the end of a ladder as opposed to the exit portal seems to me no real advantage.

We all need to make one and as soon as I finish my warhound I intend to start.
What we should all do is begin together and make this a group project sharing what bits of information and our various techniques and building tricks as we each build our individual titans.
This will have a twofold advantage:
One; that no one has to go it alone making mistakes in scale and construction and two; the incentive to keep up with the group and be spurred on to completing the goal.
The first thing to do is agree upon the height which I calculate to be on the order of 133 feet which translates into 28 inches. The diameter of the disk like foot pads would be a big advantage and those with access to the Dave Smith model in CA could provide us with the measurement either by direct measurement of best guestimation.

Cost is subjective depending on how you utilize recycled material. I have already found ideal structures for the legs in the form of the cheap mini blinds that people discard by the thousands each year. They're ~1 inch square in cross section and a sturdy box beam shape and made of styrene for easy gluing.
THe $200 dollar price is mainly for the Plasticard to build up layers of detail. One mini blind could provide dozens of 0.5mm sheets that could serve that purpose and a final veneer of full sized card for the cap piece would save quite a bit on the total construction cost.
The basic construction is foam filled board which is about as cheap a construction material as you can find. I'll bet that all that is needed is one sheet of each 1/4 and 1/2 will be all that is needed to build the basic structure.

Well, if I do this, I foresee having scale issues. I was going to shoot for 24", based on a loose guess on that Apoc book picture (10.5 for each Warhound multiplied by 2.25, rounded up). I also will be doing the design in the Apoc book, because it looks way, way more gothic (the eagle halves sold me on it!).
What would help is someone with an actual FW Warhound that we can measure up and then use the comparison for a rough guide.
As for materials, I am going for a mostly foamcore body, with pvc pipe (body/arms) and wood (legs) to support it. I will probably get some wooden dowels for large pipes, since plasticard is pricey and I want to avoid it at all costs.
What other household type stuff can we use? I know that foamular board is pretty cheap, like $10/sheet. We would need only one and we could easily use it to bulk up rounded areas and build up a base (I think it will need one - unless its weighted?).
Scale, as I said, is the hard part. I will sketch up some blueprints when I get a chance. The thought of plopping 2500pts of absolute pure death down at a Tank Battle game would be worth the ~$100-200 to construct it. Might even be able to sell it if it looks nice enough!

Picture please? em_en_oh_pee wrote:What would help is someone with an actual FW Warhound that we can measure up and then use the comparison for a rough guide. FW gives the height of a Warhound at 10.5 inches which I can only assume that is with the legs in full extention in a normal standing or walking pose. My own scratch built model meets that measurement when standing full erect but compressing the cylinders takes a bit over an inch from the overall height. I have no Apoc book but the relative size picture I do have shows me a Warlord at least 2.5 times the height of a Warhound at the very least. Actual size is immaterial and you can build it whatever size suits you but components should be agreed upon in size initially and based on one standard model. the you can scale your actual component by using a multiplier.

The pic is above, from the Apocalypse book. It shows a size comparison with a Warhound and it looks about 2.25 times its size, from my guess. Not a big deal, though. A few inches won't make a major difference for the scale. However, ~30" would be way off, I think.
I will attempt to scale it and I saw online someone did a lot of scale work to access each panel based on the Epic model (think its on B&C). Anyhow, I will get back to this later today or tomorrow. For now, its a tank battle. Wish me and my bright yellow Stompa luck!

Another source wrote:As an Epic player, I would have thought you might have read the rulebooks. The Adeptus Titanicus PDF puts emperor class titans at 25-40 meters. I've seen in other rulebooks that they were 60 meters. That is the largest I have seen in a rulebook. There are drawings that make them bigger, but I'd rather work with concrete numbers. Let's take 60 meters since it allows for the imperators to be big and still be within what the books say. Some people use 1" = 5.5' in 28 mm. Others use 1" =5'. I'll do both. 60m is roughly 196.85 feet. Using the first scale your imperator would end up around 35.79 inches (2.98feet). Going off of the 1" = 5' scale an imperator would stand around 39.37 inches (3.28 feet). Either way, a six foot imperator is about twice as big as it should be.
If you don't want to believe me, look at Mike Biasi's (the artist that did Armorcast's titans) prototype warlord and imperator. His warlord was around 22"-23", and his imperator was right around 3'. I would say his interpretations of titan sizes need to be considered since he did make the original 40K scale titans.
Here is a rough estimate of titan sizes from all the research I've done:
warhound: 10"-11.5"
reaver: 16"-19.5"
warlord: 23"-29.5" (depending on if you go off of 40 or 45 meters)
emperor: 35.7"-39.7"
I would say give or take an inch or two to allow for artistic impressions and what not. However, I am tired of seeing overly large titans. Titans are not nearly as big as people seem to think. Look at the rulebooks, do a little math; and come up with a model that's impressive and accurate, not to mention usable in 40K scale games.
This seems pretty authoritative

According to FW the Reaver Titan is 16 inches tall. I'm ballparking that the emperor Titan is 36 inches tall and the Warmonger is 33 inches tall. I'm going 28 inches.
