Quick update - more banshees painted, almost done with two of them. I started work on the exarch, went with golden yellow hair, as opposed to the blazing orange highlights that you could barely see in the other one. There's also some cloth that I'm having trouble figuring out how i'll approach - whether I want to try blends, highlights, or a wash. I think I'll need to get some of that red citadel wash.

Any cloth tips? My farseer blending project is loooong, and I'm in a race to finish my army for my friends. IF it can't look good a simpler way, then I won't do it, but I'd like to test my options, see what works which ways.

Pics will be uploaded of the three banshees soon.

Alright! Decent update here, I think. Got some time in on my banshees and my wave serpent...

BANSHEES:

The first two banshees - I was really excited to try the hair. This is a mid-progress set on them...

I wanted it to have a deep look that flamed out into a more orangey color, which I think i established decently, but I'm not sure if it's too dark... thoughts?

I also got impatient and went to work on the exarch! I wanted the exarch to have much more vibrant, fiery hair, which I think I accomplished pretty well, considering these guys are my first attempts! Here's the exarch:

Oh, and if you couldn't tell, that's a blood angel's head down there. I'm coming for you racta

The WAVE SERPENT! Thinking back to the troop-transport color matching I mentioned earlier, and the fear of the heavies becoming a little too... dull, I've added a stripe of red across the face of the serpent. Another thing that had crossed my mind was that my eldar army was suspiciously lacking in stripes, which seem pervasive in eldar military camo Bear in mind, even the stripe is a WIP

So here's some shots of the Seprent, including a few with some guardians it might transport:

So that's basically everything! I think that was a decent update, no? I think I'm getting the hang of some of this... the cloth on these banshees is still going to haunt me though!

Alright, well, let me put it this way- I'm severely opposed to making the footwear match the armor - I want the shoes to be different! I don't want greaves or anything, I want specific, differentiated shoes. I liked the white, and am opposed to blood red, but perhaps red gore might work? Scab red? Some other color to tie the army together?

Alright! No MAJOR updates today, in terms of painting, BUT I do have some pics of my small progress, as well as a tourney list I'm looking to take to a tourney coming in november. So that's my deadline for this army - November.

The list is as follows:

Athag Anaris Craftworld Main Battleforce

HQ
------

Eldrad Ulthuan

Farseer Aiel Feynor - Guide, Fortune, Spirit Stones, RoWitnessing, Singing Spear

TROOPS
------

11x1 Guardians - Starcannon

7x1 Pathfinders

5x1 Guardian Jetbikes + 1 Warlock - Embolden (reroll failed Ld)

ELITES
------

7x1 Howling Banshees - Exarch w/ Executioner, Acrobatic, War Shout, Wave Serpent (Twin-linked Bright Lances)

6x1 Harlequins - Death Jester, Troupe Master, Fusion Pistols 2x, 6 Harlequin's Kisses, Wave Serpent (Twin-linked Starcannons)

FAST ATTACK
------

5x1 Swooping Hawks - Exarch, Skyleap, Hawk's Talon

HEAVY SUPPORT
-------

1 War Walker, 2x Bright Lances

1 War Walker, 2x Starcannon

4x1 Dark Reapers, Exarch, Tempest Launcher

TOTAL: 1849 points

Vital Information:

Can Penetrate AV 14: 10 models
Can Glance AV 14: 13 models (Eldrad, Aiel, Banshees Exarch, Harlie Fusion Pistols, All swooping hawks, 1 war walker, wave seprent)
Can Glance AV 12: 15 models (As previous, with Guardians and 1 War Walker and other serpent)

52 models, 52 wounds, 4 vehicles

You'll note the Wraithguard have been removed. I took a long look at the list, and frankly, the Wraithguard were kind of tacked on. They were good for what they did, but for their points (and with a few cuts in other areas such as the jetbikes and guardians) I was able to get my Harlies into a Wave Serpent with Starcannons. I think this was a good trade. My harlies will be infinitely more useful to me in an AV 12 skimmer with a 4+ cover save, you know? Oh, AND I managed to get my war walkers back in the list. I actually took the gakky metal models I got and started to revamp one with bright lances - I should be fielding two War Walkers soon. The inclusion of the War Walkers and the new Wave Serpent solidified it for me, honestly. This delivery system worked decently for my banshees, and I don't see why the harlies will be an exception. Not to mention, with my weak ass units, I need them to not be forced to make saves (and the harlies have a gakky one).

I'm now hoping this list will play out a little in an enveloping fashion - with my pathfinders in cover, maybe in the middle, but just somehwere they can see everything well, and my serpents flying across the map. My reapers and pathfinders and guardians will be there to slowly poke holes in the threat, whilst I position my melee specialists and wait for my walkers to arrive with my hawks. If I can get my walkers and hawks on the table on the same turn, that'd be BANGIN' - I'd be dropping a grenade, blasting my bright lances and star cannons, and basically attempting to perform a coup de grace on their vehicles. I think that getting them to rely on their general vehicular superiority will give me an advantage when these units finally come out from an unexpected side.

Thoughts?

Note on the Fluff - Eldrad has been called upon by the Farseer Aiel to aid Athag Anaris after it suffered a massive and unfortunate blow after a battle with an unexpected and deadly Dark Eldar raiding force. I won't lie, though. He's been added mainly to even the odds as I expect a lot of cheese at the tourney, and I've always been opposed to too much cheese, but I'm trying to keep up with Joneses.

Alright on to new pics!

This is my Banshee exarch - I've added some yellow pants, and there's a shot of the yellow shoes.

----

Another banshee, this one has an arm!! I've also taken care to try and highlight the red cloth with blazing orange, but I've always been shaky on my highlighting, so I'd like some opinions.

Also, there's one with the appropriately orange shoes...

----

Also I picked up some ebay Wraithguard - they came painted in this color scheme. The new color scheme will be something similar to this:

----

I've had some old school metal war walkers lying around that I picked up on the cheap from ebay - Athag Anaris has had to salvage older technology in order to maintain it's fighting capabilities. This shot has a pre-painted walker I'd bought with the finished new edition walker. They're both missing a scatter laser, how cute.

----

Finally, off topic a little, I picked up Assault Reach recently to get an ork waaagh! started, and as a result have some space marines left over. My friends suggested that I try to sell painted models, and though I'm not THAT confident in my painting skills, some of the painted stuff that gets sold on ebay is, i think, worse than my work (the war walker above I think is a good example). At the very least, I'll have a painted blood angels force and some extra practice painting. At best, I manage to make a little bit of money. Here's the marine I started work on:

So if you want any painted blood ravens...

So that's my update! Thanks for watching!

I really like your colors - my banshees have red hair, which I prefer over orange, but yours is tastefully done. Just an FYI, but Harlies can't get a Serpent. You *could* put them in a falcon however, but that means dropping a HS selection. I'd drop both the walkers if you did and pick up a wraithlord. Just my $.02...

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Hmm... i'd alotted funds to the army I have... as in, I purchased a bunch of random ass eldar models and this is what I've got (though I AM purchasing the Harlies, Pathfinders, and Eldrad). The purchase of the falcon and the wraithlord might be a little much.

I guess it's inadvisable to just put the guardians in the serpent, disembark first turn and embark with the harlies?

Why specifically do you make those recommendations, if I may ask? I have to figure out what I'm doing really soon, haha.

Nothing says you have to have the guardians embarked at beginning of play, so you could have the empty serpent and the guardians on the board and embark the harlies 1st turn. In any case, harlies don't have a transport option so you can't buy a dedicated serpent for them. Since you could fit them into a falcon if they're a 6-man squad, that's the route I'd take for the build you've got. If you don't want to or are unable to buy a Falcon, they'll need to walk and you'll want to get a Shadowseer for them to take advantage of Veil of Tears.

However! If you DO get a Falcon, it's going to eat a heavy slot, so you'll need to drop either the reapers or one of the walkers. Lone walkers are great in small point games where they can dish out some pretty heavy firepower, but above 1k it's best to have 2-3 of them. For that reason, I'd drop the both of them, keep the reapers for good anti-meq-template-goodieness, pick up a Falcon to ferry the Harlies, and a Wraithlord. Why the Wraithlord?

First, they're wicked tough and hard as nails. Second, they're great at tearing apart armor if it gets close or if they can get to it. Third, they can be outfitted with great anti-horde and/or anti-armor weapons. Finally, the plastic WL is a beautiful model that's very easy to build, customize, and convert. In your current line up, if you dropped the walkers for a Falcon and WL, I'd give the lord a Brightlance and an EML for a good balance of high AP/Template weaponry. Pop a trukk with the BL, drop a plasma EML on the orks it dumps, or hit it with the krak if it doesn't.

Alright, here's a slight update.

Sadly, I had a busy week what with my girlfriend preparing for a move to the city, so little painting has been done and my update is a sketchy at best.

Here are the pictures:

So those are my banshees and my starcannon HW platform to accompany my guardians. The banshees have their cloaks done, their white armor 99% done, and their pants done. as you can see, most of the hair is done as well. They need arms, and weapons. My executioner fell to pieces due to overmanipulation of the model, so that'll require some glue and maybe a greenstuff fix. I also started playing with flocking just to get it down pat for the final models - the exarch isn't actually glued into that base yet.

I tried to mix things up a little bit on the starcannon platform - as you can see there's an x placed off-center. I thought it looked pretty cool... there's an additional angle you can't see that is behind the tip of the starcannon. I'll try to get more/better pics up later.

Additionally, I started work on my second wave serpent! Sadly, fundage is low, so I'll have to go with the "start your guardians disembarked and embark the harlies on the first turn" charade... hopefully I can deploy in cover So these are pictures of the barely started new serpent, and the new details on the old serpent...

The new serpent will have a bright orange stripe as it will actually be intended for the howling banshees, as I mentioned a few weeks ago (insofar as the serpents will match the units they carry).

though my banshees still need work (and the cheap basecoat I used is infuriating since it peels off at the slightest touch, undoing layers and layers of work), as does the grav platform, I'd consider myself not that far behind schedule. If you recall, week 1 was banshees and guardians, with the serpents taking up week two. well, it's week two, and the progress I didn't make on the banshees was made up for in progress on the serpents, I think (though it may not seem like much has changed, there were a bunch of smaller things I started taking care of that took a while and a couple coats of paint.)

Tonight I want to playtest the army, so I can make any final adjustments if needed.

On a side note, I make sure to have painting diversions to keep me sane. I've painted a blood angels termie in the downtime between the banshees and platform and serpents (oh my!). Here are some pics!

There's more termie pics than eldar pics because I wasn't up quite so late before work painting him He was done a few days ago, haha.

Well, as usual everything looks really great. I like the distinct color of the banshees, they really stand out. The blood angels look freaking sweet. Glad you aren't painting nids to make me feel bad about my crappy painting.

Only other comments would be on the starcannon and the termie. The starcannon looks like there is a lot of extra paint on it, it looks really thick. Did you repaint it? (It might just be the picture). And the base for the termie...it may also be the picture, but the flock looks really thick. Did you intend for it to come out that way? I really like how it finishes the model though...I guess I should get to painting and flocking. Where did you pick the flock up from anyway?

As for the starcannon, the paint is actually thin - when you hold the model, you can still see the basecoat through it (except for the stripes and whatnot). Any specific spots you're talking about?

And for the termie's flock, it's another case of, I-can-see-the-base, you know? I got the flock from my FLGS, though it's railroad flock, not GW flock.

Anyone else notice these problems, or have similar comments?

Sorry guys! It's been awhile, but work is getting done, slowly! I picked up my pathfinders, my other wave serpent is mostly done, and I've gotten a few games in with my 1850 list. I'm swapping some stuff out, I think, and ditching the tourney in favor of a kinder painting schedule and so I can also establish Waaagh! Trukksnakk.

I'm going to post some pics of the Waagh! soon, too. Two armies at once, oy veigh!
