Updating the Codexes in the way that GW seems to be doing it is just stupid on so many levels, but I get tired even thinking about it.......

As a Blood Angels player I am hoping you get too tired to post about how boring BA are.

What are you immortal? Is time meaningless to you? Or do you just go into some sort of deep, induced hibernation between codex release periods so you don't have to wait at all. Do you want us to freeze you so you don't have to wait for the nintendo Wii to be released too?

From where I sit it takes them a stupidly large amount of time, and they are taking that stupidly large amount of time to release codexes that proportionally no one really cares about. There are so few dedicated space wolves players left that you could stick them all in a single van. Then drive it away. The same goes for blood angels.

Whereas the Tau, inquisition, necron, and until the new codex actually gets announced tyranid players get to wait for their functionally broken books to get re written.

I agree with Shuma on this one...
I honestly feel like GW has NO excuse on dropping the ball for this long. Seriously, we dont need more frigging Imperial anything for the next 5 Years... Flagship army be damned.

Not yet...

I've been waiting over a decade for my Dogs of War army book, so I think the relevant keyword would be "patient". I have sufficient numbers of armies of sufficient size and variety that I can comfortably afford to wait years and years for things to come around.

Besides, unlike Fantasy, 40k isn't a total chowder, so GW taking their time with Codex releases isn't a big deal. Presumably, GW is finally taking the time to do more? / some? / useful? playtesting to keep things more-or-less in balance.

It's all relative, and relatively speaking, 40k is "balanced" compared to Fantasy.

Fantasy balance won't happen until the next chaos daemons book. I was actually shocked to discover 40k had passed Fantasy in Balance. Any army really can win in 40k. There are some absolutely impossible match-ups in fantasy (assuming your both of at least average intelligence)

Seriously? Needs are underpowered? Stealer-shock is gaining popularity. I agree hormogaunts are not worth the points currently but to say that everything bar the carnifex is overpriced and garbage just goes to show that there is a lot of "talking out the ass" syndrome going on in this thread.
I run stealer shock and I've had great success with warriors and stealers and lictors and of course the tyrant and carnies....

I don't play against WAAC pricks so maybe my army would get owned by dual-lash prince but I seriously don't care for that type of environment. I quit paintball because too many pricks playing just to feed an ego, sounds to me like 40k tournie mindset is the same.

GW should do away with sanctioning tournies all together. Leave it up to Jack from "Jacks fun and games" to set up a tournament than we could avoid the WAAC pricks that flood the tactics/rumors/news forums.

Remember, there's nothing wrong with this. There's nothing wrong with taking 2+ montoliths, or this cheese or that cheese.

The designers let this happen.

Any player (whether you like it or not) is just doing what the designers LET them do. I used to say, "CHEESE! MORE CHEESE FOR MY WHINE!!" and then it hit me. These guys aren't cheating, it's all legal, and they made a very powerful list out of it.

So, send your thoughts to the designers in a NICELY worded document under one page. State your facts, in as neutral language as you can muster and keep it short. Send it in writing via snail mail. I did and I even got a response FROM a designer, so YES they do get read.

If it has to be 2, then Smurphs for one (C:SM) and Sub chapters in another (BA, DA, SW, BT).

The new C:SM takes all the things that made the sub-chapters different and included them in the list. Why anyone is playing a sub-chapter atm baffles me. And I'm a Deathwing player :-(

I guess SW get to be first. We'll see how much actually "changes" vs just buying re-hashed fluff with a few "distinctive" changes allowing them to break certain rules, blah blah blah. . . .

Dude they call their termies wolfguard and give them WOLF claws instead of lightning claws. That's way different.

Nah. Jezzails will get nerfed so hard in the new book that no one will take them. People will actually pay you to take the models from them.

So.... chaos gray knights then? I'd buy that.

It was a brief thank you letter. I wasn't expecting anything at all considering how much input/yammering/suggestions/etc they get from all quarters, so I thought it was nice.

I have no problem with people doing what codeciies let them but I'm under the impression most of the WAAC gamers won't have fun unless they stomp someones face in....tournie or friendly play.

My post isn't aimed at anyone in particular, I'm just saying that the WAAC pricks (and you know who you are) take broken combos to feed their ego that tells them they HAVE to win to have fun.

It's why I got so tired of MTG...too much copy/pasting of decks off the interwebs....it became a contest to see who would spend the most money to have the most powerful deck in the game (based on whatever deck won the National Tournie for that year).

Space marines comprise %60 of GWs sales.

You want to know why GW publishes so many marines books and miniatures? Because people want them.

I'd love to see the new DE range that Jes is doing sooner rather than later but my wallet is small and thus speaks in whispers completely drowned out by a torrent of rectangular shouts made by the masses.

"Marines! Marines!"

@Inquisition rumor request,

Harry (one of the old reliables) over on warseer said something is being worked on for sisters....of course "worked on" in GW lingo means little, just ask a dark eldar or necrons player.

He added, they were keeping a much tighter lid on such things of late.

So, up with your hopes for a moment, though likely dashed soon enough.

It was an e-mail response because I attached it to my letter (like you would a resume).

Now back to the point of the post- you can send endless hours howling at the internet at vain hopes that someone (other than your friends) will hear you, or you can spend one hour doing it right and at least get your point seen by someone who matters.

Schepp himself wrote:If GW wasn't so freakingly slow with release dates, I wouldn't mind a Blood Angels codex. But with the current pace of Codex/Army Book releases, I can't stand it.

I have to agree with this. If they were releasing a 40k codex every quarter (so, 4 a year), it'd be okay. Instead, we're getting what - like 2 a year combined with a Wave 2 release for someone (or new APOC kits, a new supplement ala Planetstrike, etc.) to round out the year? If we were getting 1 MEQ and 3 other armies a year, it'd be tolerable. Even as a SW player, I'd rather see Tau, DE, Necron, IQ, etc. get a new book.

I like the idea of all SM in one book as well - they can still release chapter specific models can't they?

They could just have one entry for the captain then you have to pick one chapter "trait" for him for X points. Could do the same for Eldar (ex. Iyanden, Wraithguard are now troops etc), Orks (ex. Blood Axe Warboss - Kommandos are now scoring, +1 to reserves roll). Or let you pick a trait for the army as a whole (although I think that's something they used to have but removed? I didn't play 4th edition).

I don't have anything against any of the SM chapters, it's just that as a non player of them.. they all feel like marines :/ SM, BT, BA, DA, SW... The differences between these fluffwise are no different from the differences between the different Eldar craftworlds or the Ork clans, and they all get along fine in one codex.

The 1 main Codex and 1 Sub-chapter codex idea, is good as well.

I shall rant...

About 80% of the codex is overpriced. About the only things not overpriced are Genestealers with Feeder Tendrils, and some Carnifex and Hive Tyrant Builds. Note they all hinge on what biomorphs you give them. Some units are overpriced, but still good enough to be worth takeing. These are: Broodlords, WoN Spinegaunts/Termigants, Deathspitter/Devourer Warriors, some Carnifex builds and Zoanthropes. Everything else is overpriced enough to be a liability. The Biggest thing 'Nids need is a near universal cost cut/Massive improvement.
