Hi guys,

Its almost August and that means its about time for the rumormill to start cranking out the projected schedule for the next 4-6 months. Here is what we've been hearing as well as what's been kicking around elsewhere around the net.

Late 2009
No big surprizes here. Wolves are officially confirmed by GW as of now, and the Skaven train has appaently left the station. Look for both of these before the holidays.

-Space Wolves
-Skaven

Early-mid 2010

Chatter has been growing regarding nids from several sources, and their general sci-fi popularity tends to see them updated somewhat regularly compared to the more specialized xenos codices. Blood Angels seems odd, but its is a recurring theme, and perhaps the design studio is unhappy with the results of the White Dwarf codex? Perhaps a percieved coat-tails tie-in with Space Hulk?

-Blood Angels
-Tyranids

The Usual Suspects

Word of these guys keeps being bantered about in the seemingly eternal locked-in-amber "they are in progress, but don't look for a release right away" mode. It's especially tearful to continue to hear this type of chatter for the Dark Eldar who have been waiting for soooooo long.

-Beast of Chaos
-Necrons
-Dark Eldar

Nice to see that my Blood Angels have leapfrogged the Dark Eldar.

Not that there's any surprise in Dark Eldar being pushed back.

Again.

As much as I have a soft spot for Blood Angels, Id rather see Beasts, Necrons & Dark Angels more, Although a tyranid update pleases me.

Im not holding out much hope for a massively re-vamped model line, but it would be nice to see new lictors.

Imperial Guard, then Space Wolves, and then Blood Angels?... Sickening if true. But very improbable. Then again, never underestimate GWs capacity to be jackasses to the xenos community.

Just more Boredom breeding news about Boredom breeding armies.......

Updating the Codexes in the way that GW seems to be doing it is just stupid on so many levels, but I get tired even thinking about it.......

Nids actually make a lot of sense. GW can't have been happy with how the current book ever played, and in fifth it's a train wreck. In many ways it's more unplayable than DE, IMO. Zilla was a strong build in 4th, but that basically just concealed the fact that virtually everything else in the list is dramatically overpriced. In a world with 6pt Ork boys and 7pt IG veterans, 10pt hormagaunts simply are out of place.

Does anybody else remember when the current nid book came out how they were hoping it would lead to a focus on the medium bugs? True, deathspitter warriors are seeing a bit of a revival now and ravenors were popular with zilla builds at higher points levels, but biovores, lictors, and nearly all warrior builds are grossly overpriced.

So this release schedule is just a summary of what MIGHT happen according to rumours (mostly from here and warseer), with nothing new or substantial added to it? Whats the point? Do BOLS just need to fill up some space?

This thread should be retitled "No New News!!!!!"

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

BoLS just took a guess at what the upcoming releases might be. No news, or a rumor.

And the 4th edition tyranid codex was a huge success at GW. It did exactly what they wanted it to do and that was to sell a lot of new carnifex boxes.

To be fair, Nids are sandwiched between Pups and BA.

What's nice is GW giving more love to the Spaz Marinz who need it!
____

Polonius wrote:Nids actually make a lot of sense.

Agreed. Though, from a rules standpoint, Necrons are more critical. However, doing SW, Necrons, BA is 3 MEQ releases in a row, and that would be a tad bit excessive, even for GW.

Define "new".

The 2009 stuff is confirmed, despite the "cold fusion" crowd insisting that DE were coming next, not Woofs...

2010 is the best guess of what's likely, and the Space Hulk scenario is playing out for next year with a focus on Nids and BA.

DE not getting any love is merely par for the course.

As much as I'd sell my own mother off to east african slavers for a new dark eldar line of figs and a new codex; I have to agree that the nids need a new release more than DE.

The ancient DE codex is a much more effective army in 5th edition than nids. There are probably a lot of nid armies sitting on shelves right now. We need a new plastic hive tyrant with wing options to go along with any new nid release.

Oh, the Nids book was a marketing success, no doubt. As a work of game writing? It's pretty limited. Is there a worse "battle force" army than nids?

I think the best definition, in this context, would be "Stuff we haven't heard before".

Like you say, the 2009 stuff is written in stone. Nothing else in the schedule is confirmed, denied, or even has any support other than whats already on dakka and warseer (and has been often recycled). Even the nids rumour is often believed to have come from a fake rumour (the nids fake playtest list on 4chan).

I doubt anyone will have solid ideas of whats after wolves and rats until after wolves and rats. The rumour mill is closed for the summer, and BOLS are just posting this to keep people checking their site until Gamesday UK (when we'll actually have stuff to talk about)

@Leggy -- there's been some buzz about Tyranids from some of the better sources on Warseer. It's not just about that fake playtest book. No one's given any concrete info, but the guys at Warpshadow did determine that the Trygon in the Apoc book is in fact a new (plastic?) model and not the FW version. Take that for what you will.

BA and Tyranids make sense following Space Hulk.

In all seriousness, so many people want Dark Eldar, and so many people would buy revival models, there is almost a decade of want for new units.... it is most folly NOT to release a new, good, Dark Eldar codex, even if it is difficult to play and not the table rolling army most turn out to be when they are newly released.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."

Oh goody, another marine codex that should never be released in full, but inevitably will, while absorbing a ludicrous amount of time and effort that could be better spent on more important armies with dozens of times the player base wanting it. At least they are going to fix the tyranids.

If GW wasn't so freakingly slow with release dates, I wouldn't mind a Blood Angels codex. But with the current pace of Codex/Army Book releases, I can't stand it.

Dark Eldar > Inquisition > Space Wolves > Necrons > Tyranids > everthing else

That's m take on codex needs.

EDIT: If they wouldn't release Space Hulk, I would hate GW pretty much...

Time for my obligatory "All SM should be in one book" rant. Again, don't understand why all the SM and sub-chapters can't be in one book.

If it has to be 2, then Smurphs for one (C:SM) and Sub chapters in another (BA, DA, SW, BT).

The new C:SM takes all the things that made the sub-chapters different and included them in the list. Why anyone is playing a sub-chapter atm baffles me. And I'm a Deathwing player :-(

I guess SW get to be first. We'll see how much actually "changes" vs just buying re-hashed fluff with a few "distinctive" changes allowing them to break certain rules, blah blah blah. . . .

I'm actually pretty content with my lot as a DE player to be honest. It's still one of the better codexes around, and I like the scarcity of the player base. It means that it's a slightly unique army to play these days, as opposed to, 'oh god, more marines/guard/orks'. The tyranids are in far more need of a codex update than us really. Whilst I would like a new model or two to be released in the meantime, just to show us that they haven't COMPLETELY forgotten about the Gothic Eldar, I'd be happy if we got a new codex late 2010/early 2011
