Declining market share?! Are you saying Hordes and Warmachine is stealing customers? I have no proof to counter your assertion except personal experience. Anyone I have ever heard of that plays ANY game outside of Fantasy or 40K drops it because they can't get anyone else to play, at least not for long.
Sales could be falling perhaps in this weak market but not market share. I'd like to see why you say GW is suffering declining market share.

It may simply be coincidence, but forums like Warseer are increasing and diversifying their Privateer Press fora. Indeed, non-GW games like Flames of War, the Privateer Press group, AT-43, Infinity, Heavy Gear, and so on seem to be expanding if online discussion is any evidence. My brother, for example, once a winner of the Canadian Grand Tournament, has dumped GW for Privateer Press. Some years ago it was pretty much GW or nothing as games went, but I think those days are past.

Yes and following their new 5th edition strategy... They will update all imperium codexes first. Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Space Wolves... so why not continue with
Inquisition, Blood Angel, Dark Angel, Black Templars... maybe the strategy is to leave all non-Imperials totally out-of-date and worthless until only the Imperium remains.

No, GW will simply continue to update Codices as they aways do, not all Imperium Codices first.
In fact, GW doesn't even do more than 2 Imperials in a row, and it appears they take pains to prevent Imperials from being released consecutively.
The only Codex that breaks the rules is Space Marines, and even then, they only get a year ahead of their normal 5-year cycle.
Guard (and DA, sort of...) are on a 5-year cycle, same as CSM, Eldar and Nids (and Tau?).
Sisters of Battle (WH) are on a 6+year cycle, while Inquisition (DH) appears it could go even longer.
Wolves & BA appear to be on a 10-year cycle, along with Orks.
BT and Daemons, it's too soon to see where they'll fit in the grand scheme of things.
But go ahead and rant away. Don't let pesky facts get in the way!

I really hope it's five years, in that time they can do 4 'releases' a year - 3 codex + 1 expansion, or 4 codecies, so about 16 codecies, more then we need, and then re start, but hey i'm being an idealist!

5th works well enough when you talk about the core rules themselves.
There is still griping over KPs replacing VPs, and Dawn of War and so on.
Regardless, any change will have more griping yet again.

That's the nature of the wargaming crowd though: they don't call them "grognards" for nothing.
The victory point thing is pretty interesting, especially with the Chaos Daemon Codex where Chaos Spawn are listed as being worth 40 Victory points, despite the Codex being released in 5th edition. Maybe GW is hedging their bets.

<nitpick> it was released just before 5th edition officially came out but wouldn't work with the 4th ed rulebook anyway.
And yeah, I got that feeling too.

In 5th, VPs are an option, so they're still back-supported.
I suspect VPs and KPs will go away in 6th for more nuanced and layered Primary / Secondary Objectives, harkening back to the original Rogue Trader.

Consdiering VP's are so increadibly easy to work out, I imagine that 6th will just use a true VP optional system. At the end of the game, add up how many points you have left, subtract that from the total cost and compare. He who is higher wins!

Go back 20 years and orks are actually one of the better selling armies. The new Ork codex and models spurred lots of sales, and created lots of new armies.

Let me say this is one of those times where I am 100% in agreement with DD. The sooner everything becomes objective based, the better.
Only sticking points of course are allowing non-Troops to score to be more realistic, making True LOS actually act like TRUE LOS, wound allocation/casualty removal that is done by the owning player, not on model type, bumping defensive weapons to S5 and... reducing the standard cover save to 5+ rather than 4+ - this includes vehicles.

VP needs to replace KP, other than that we just need new codices.
New codices are the real thing GW needs to buckle down and concentrate on. Because it is easier to make a codex good in the current ruleset than it is to make a ruleset best for the codices. THAT is what needs to be done.
Oh no! but GW's sales will go down!
I doubt it, if the game is made completely balanced by releasing all the codices along with the rulebook at once, it attracts all kinds of people because they now know this is a stable game, not something that they will buy into, not knowing whether or not they will be able to really play 5 years down the road due to a lack of a codex.
off-topic:
The thing they definately need to do is make this god damn game cheaper. Everyone agrees they would buy more stuff if it was just cheaper. Doesn't that sound like sales going up? lol

Firstly, the First 3 5th Edition Codex's were Chaos Daemons, Space Marines and Imperial Guard.
Secondly, Space Wolves are not Imperials. They are Space Wolves
