If by "hot release at Games Day" you mean "they'll stay quiet and won't say gak about it, then post a blurb on the website the day after".

I think we'll see it towards the end of next year. Most likely a Q4 release. There have just been too many rumors going around to write them off.

We sure do! There is a 2-year window starting 10/10/2008, closing 10/10/2010, so there are 14 months left on the wager.

If DE don't appear until GD '11, I'd have won by then.

BTW, if you go to my user page, it links to the wager.

So how confident are you about them not appearing in GD 2011?

I'd wager $5 we see a new Codex/model wave for Dark Eldar before 11/11/11. Care to take me up on it?

It is going to happen. It is well known Jess Goodwin has been working on the plastics albiet for a while. Have a little faith! I quite like the current models anyway so i am in no rush.

Yes.

Dark Eldar is an army that nicely fills a niche and is definately one of the most interesting ones around. I would love to start them up as a second army when they update them.

Armies:
(CSM/HH) - Iron Warriors; Death Guard; World Eaters; Night Lords
IG - Vestfalian Expeditionary
Force (Solar Auxilia - HH)
SM - Blades of Inaros (Homebrew)
DE - Kabal of Ouroboros

GW is a business, and their job is to generate revenue for the stockholders.

The primary goal for GW is to sell models -- which is done through encouraging people to start a new army or to buy new models for the current army. This is most often done through the release of a new codex where they introduce new models and rules to ensure that people buy the new models. The Ork codex is a prime example of this, as shoots as now more desirable than sluggas. This encourages people to go buy new Orks -- generating more GW revenue.

Releasing a new codex bears a substantial cost. New molds need to be crafted, and production runs completed. New rules need to be playtested and balanced. GW is going to try and get a return on that investment and focus on the armies with a larger base during a global recession.

At gamesday Spain they announced that Dark Eldar were more than a year off. Also they are working on new models for the dark eldar already and through an educated guess based on the following quote are nearer to completion than just beginning.

"He was also asked about the Dark Eldar. Jes Goodwin had still not completed work on them, so even if Games Workshop rushed the current assets into production, they would still be a year off."

With that knowledge I would say sometime between 1 and 2 years for completion (from the date of games day spain which took place on june 01 2009). So sometime between june 2010 and june 2011.

DE was my first army in 2002 when the revised codex came out.
But I'm not enthusiastic that they get a new codex within 2 years.
E.g., there were rumors in 2005 that they'll get a new codex in 2007.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

A wasted opportunity.

They've got a great concept for their fluff - Eldar that abandoned the 'psyker/spirit stone' way and instead hide from Slaanesh in plain sight, using the suffering of others to mask their own presence.

So we get big-handed Morley-sculped big-handed nightmares, very little more fluff, and a Codex that's over a decade old.

They need a revamp, and a rewrite of their fluff - not to make them Chaos Eldar mind you, just to make that initial seed of an idea into something bigger than just 'Slave raid/Torture/Slave raid/torture/orgy/slave raide/BDSM/torture/kill superior and take over/slave raid/etc.'.

So basically, no one has any real information... I think, unfortunately, labmouse might have the strongest argument. GW isn't in the business of innovation, it's in the business of sucking their stockholders & board of directors. For the rest of you guys who think there's actually models being built and a codex being redone, I want to believe with you! I want it to be true. I really, really want it to be true. Thanks to everyone for their input, it's been a pleasure to read.

To enshure that we have GW as a toy-soldier provider in the future, my opinion is that DE should not have a new codex at all.

DE sell little, and in my opinion have little sales potential. At the same time they need a lot of work.

It should be suffience with a FAQ/errata or maybe a WD-list (but that's maybe too much). After the DE-models GW have in stock are sold out, people will be fine with converting eldar-stuff.

In the future maybe we will be lucky to have a combined eldar and DE-codex.

What we need is more space marines.

I think the problem that I have with them is they're just not interesting...fluff or models; they do nothing for me. I find them to be incredibly boring and I wouldn't miss them if they were gone.

Make no mistake, I don't hate them, they are just so 'meh' for me. It would be difficult to care less for them than I do now.

It's gonna happen within a year. DE were slated for the fall originally but it doesn't look like they'll be done in time. The sculpts are rumored to be nearly completed and their rules are still in the works. At least we know they're taking the time to make them a decent army for 5th ed. Hopefully the models are immensely improved over the crap they have right now. I'd like to see them modelled off the lithe figure in the rulebook. the current scrawny arms/legs/head and masive torso looks like complete rubbish.

Voted No.

Great concept as pirates and slavers, poorly supported.

I STILL don't understand them. I know they're eldar that are still living the debauchery lifestyle. But why do they torture their victims again? And...when they die, don't their souls go to Slaanesh cause they don't use those spirit stones like the "normal" eldar?

Agreed! The typical warrior figurine for the Dark Eldar is just ridiculously terrible... I think we can all agree that they have a few too many spikes, as well. A little bit of spikeage=good. A ridiculous overabundance of spikeage put onto a skinny frame=bad. They all look like damn pincushions. However, I do like the look of the Incubi... I can't wait to see a remake of them.

They torture their vicitms because it's a source of pleasure and amusement for them. Torture is just as good as sex to them. Sometimes better. I'm not sure about souls going to Slaanesh. Or rather, I'm not sure they care. The Craftworld Eldar are the ones fearful of Slaanesh. I'm sure that while some DE fear Her, they're bound to their existance and their lifestyle. Even if it means their soul will be devoured by the Warp upon death

Actually, the whole reason the Dark Eldar raid slaves is so that they can consume their souls, which effectively makes them immortal until killed in battle, keeping their own souls from going straight to Slaanesh's great hungry gob. The souls act as some kind of "buffer" or somesuch around their own souls, keeping Slaanesh from leeching their life essence over the course of their lives.

I looked at the artwork of the Dark Eldar in the BGB, I went "Sweet! What is that I need to find a model of that." And then I found out that there is no warrior model that looks like that :(
