I think ill go back to re-reading my copies of 85 - 190, when they used to be worth reading WD now over promote new things to the point people get sick of them.
If they actually reslese something people want, then they wont need to advertise, it will sell fine on its own.
also, i think that WD issues covering new armies should be bumped up in size, that way they can keep going with all the usual crap, but add in extra pages including new models and a 2nd batrep.
Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.
WD has always been known as a miniatures catalogue. It says right here on the front of good old issue 183, even back then they crammed new product into every spot, only then they had better stuff, I thinks. Dunno. Jervis was around back then as well.
I cant see paying money for a magazine that is almost total garbage. How much are those things now anyways? like 8 bucks? Thats insane. Ill take myself out to lunch, and give the rest of the cash to my son to jabber on about something a 4 y/o talks about lol

And if you're unsure, these reviews are good to know if you want to spend the money or not.
What review? All I saw was a rant, aimed more at pleasing the GW haters than evaluating the issue.
If you like Space Woofs (and I do) then it wasn't anything like as bad as is being suggested. There was the usual 'how I wrote the codex' article, a lot of photos of the new Woofs, a decent article on converting them, and a battle report which shows them in action i.e. exactly what WD has done for years. They even addressed (if superfically) the issue of veteran Woof players having to re-do their armies in the light of the new codex. And there were some useful painting tips for those of us who do actually paint their models. All good stuff if you're actually into the hobby, as distinct from just arguing about rules and army lists.
If, however, you're so jaded that the release of a new codex and some very good new figures (and, admittedly, a couple of sh*t ones) doesn't interest you, then it's probably not worth getting this issue. Personally, although I won't be buying any Skaven, I'm also looking forward to them getting a similar treatment in the next issue.
It's certainly true that Jervis's column reached new lows - I really don't know who he thinks his audience is.

What's in the Jervis column that's causing so much ire?

Havent touched a white dwarf in years, the only one I have bought since I think it was the issue they told us how much they had screwed 40k with 3rd ed was the one with the eldar release. And that was so my son wouldnt steal the codex I bought. And the next day I still had to buy another codex as he stole it anyways

right?
on topic: I haven't bothered with White Dwarf since.... 2001? i think... and it wasn't very good before that.

The whole thing is about how great it is to organise a group painting and modelling session. For two pages.
A lot of mentions of ordering pizza. And talking...it's radical stuff indeed.
Curious thing this month was the frequent usage of the word "ribald" throughout the issue.....most curious.

"the play's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the king,
I just read 357 in one sitting, with my last WD being from 2005. It feels a little more impersonal but still thought it was a good read, I was expecting so much more from the Azhag section. And the battle reports not being written by the actual players, how long has it been like this? I really dislike that format. I even really enjoyed the space hulk stuff even though I won't go anywhere near it . It just seems to lack all those personal touches it once had...still good though. I guess Ill just buy this one anyway as I need something to read .
P.S can anyone tell me when(ish) the new copies reach newsagents (ect) each month? (UK)

It should be out last Friday in each month.

Oh dear, I appear to angered one or two people with mere words.
Allow me to counter...
1. To those who said something to the effect of "If you don't like WD don't buy it!", I do like WD (look up the word apologist), just not this issue.
2. It wasn't intended as a review, more of exclamation that having achieved an issue which I thought was pretty balanced, they went straight back to doing some of the things I hate e.g. mass coverage for army of the month, confusing battle reports etc
3. Yes, I know I should be more accommodating to LoTR coverage, I just can't seem to manage it.
Sorry for upsetting people, but this is just my opinion. You read mine, then I read yours. Isn't that how forums work?
Bloody Hell!!!! never heard/read so many folk have a downer on one product without anyone saying (sorry one person did) how they would change it.
You have a right to moan about something being rubbish if you want but hell it wasnt that bad an issue. The master class is a god send for most folk, we can only dream about being that good. Even the artical on the painting evening wasnt all bad, he was just pointing out what they get up to when they need a massive army ready for a photo shoot or display or whatever. I admit I dont know what his coloumn is for but then again he is supplying an insight to the workings of GW.
I just cant see why folk have to run something into the ground without presenting alternatives.
If you assume GW read forums like this and chances are they will have someone read them, then be constructive in what you want to see in the magazine, do you want Jordans boobs? do you want posh spice' latest diet? or do you want pieces on the hobby? So lets try this how about a section on SM diets, or even the odd pic of a sister of battle topless. Happier now? No didnt think you would be.

...without anyone saying (sorry one person did) how they would change it
Isn't that sort of implied.
We hate the lack of actual content. The self-serving bs articles from Jervis. The BatReps that are hard to follow and quite brief. The useless LoTR stuff. How everything is about pimping the new release of the month.
So we would change all of that by doing essentially the opposite.
Doing just the opposite does not mean its constructive. Saying this is crap because its crap is only you saying that something is crap. Saying I think they should add or take away or do this and that to a piece because it would read better or look better or whatever is constructive. You place an idea in the public domain and then see what folk think.
Most folk on here seem to think this issue of WD is rubbish but most do not say how they would change it. Like I said at the beginning the opposite of something isnt always good or an improvment eg: the opposite of the Nazis was the Communists, discuss.
Pain is Fleeting, Chicks dig Scars, Glory lasts Forever
Thats a fair point, I have not been on here long and if its been said before and still GW are not making changes has anyone thought to write to the company and let them know that there is a lively discussion taking part on these forums?
Maybe asking folk on here first what changes they would like to see and why, then present your evidence to GW.
Tell you what if I get over 100 people tell me what changes they would like to see and valid changes as to the reasons why. I will compile a list of the top points and send them to GW myself and ask them to reply to the points in a future issue of the WD
All I ask is that all critisism is constructive that you say how long you have been reading WD and playing whatever system you do and your country. The rest I will compile and then post on here before I send it in, once it has been read by those who are interested and we agree on the points to raise I will write it up and send it to Nottingham.
Country etc. is so we can show the demographics.

More like over 9000 times. :p GW prints what they want to print, the Hobbyists be da... , err, be smurfed. Right now it seems they want us to have a catalog with an occasional useful article or product spread. At least here in the USA, they finally shrank the back pages (hopefully this will stay and not just a change for an issue).

Also fair enough. We can't expect you to know everything from the moment you sign up.
You'll just get have to get used to the grumpy people at this website (myself included) who like to talk about them good 'ol days when White Dwarf came with a free cup of coffee and a foot massage.
Actually, come to think about it, if WD had come with a cup of coffee and a foot massage I still would've complained; I hate coffee and I don't want some random person touching my feet!!!
