Having produced one of their best issues in a while (IMO) last month, the WD editorial team perform a perfect about turn and head back into the era of crapness with this months issue.
I suppose you can only work with what you're given, but if what you're given is utter s**t, why devote over three quarters of the magazine to it?!
Here are some of the astounding low lights...
A once again poorly mapped battle report where a Space Pup Rune Priest destroys a hitherto unharmed Great Unclean One with that stupid grabby monster power
A "Hey kids, look at all the cool things you can do with the new Space Wolves box" article (getting very bored of kit bashing articles, a five year old can kit bash)
An article that looks at the some of the admittidley impressive scenery pieces, but doesn't show how they made them
JJ achieves astonishing new lows with his "Let's all paint together" Standard Bearer
LoTR comes back
I'm normally a WD apologist, but seriously, avoid this one like Gordon Brown avoids elections

Haven't got mine yet (got a one year subscription for present, guess how much I would have wanted to change it to a Battalion!).
Otherwise I'm getting used to that kind of "hey look a new army with all these must-buy kits!" but I just can't stand the fact that they force us to read Lord of The Rings.
As Flashman said, last issue was very good. Always nice to have one good issue in a year!

White Dwarf is a waste of cash for anyone more than 2 months into the hobby.
*as an aside...
A five year old can indeed kitbash Flash, but kitbashing well and in a complimentary style is actually a fairly part of the hobby. I find your comment somewhat unnecessary and a bit harsh.

I flicked through it in the store and put it back down. Nothing of value in there at all. At least it's better than the days when they devoted a whole 50% of the mag to LoTRs. I only really buy it now when there's some painting guides in there my girlfriend might be interested in.

noooo, after the last one (to those of us not interested in the new space hulk it's really not even worth opening in my opinion, and not worth the price tag for sure) I thought it couldn't get any worse. And after that promising issue a couple of months back as well :(.

You know the report is a draw yeah ?
Standard Bearer was spectacularly pointless this month, I swear it was a reprint.
I suspect that the column may now in fact be sponsored by Domino's pizza perhaps.

And you don't have just as many GW-induced mental scars as any other 40K veteran? What about me and my massive LatD army? Or the Baneblade and Stompa that I'll never use? Or the absolute lack of those awesome card sections that they use to have? Or the letters? I want LETTERS!!!

One for the club's library then (my - misguided fools that they are - friends insist on getting me a subscription every year as a birthday present) as I'll not be reading much of it - the space viking werewolves really don't appeal to me and lotr appeals less.

They'll only put card sections in again when they want to hike the price up yet again. And ofcourse a few months down the line the card sections vanish. Havent touched a white dwarf in years, the only one I have bought since I think it was the issue they told us how much they had screwed 40k with 3rd ed was the one with the eldar release. And that was so my son wouldnt steal the codex I bought. And the next day I still had to buy another codex as he stole it anyways

Wow, really? A core game got some token coverage? Those swines! Next thing you will be telling me there about to release some more models and rules for LotR too….
This is an utterly ludicrous complaint and no more appropriate than me complaining about 40K getting coverage.
WD is there to cover the entire hobby and not just the parts you personally like.

As if WD would be any "better" if they pulled LOTR out of it.
Well it would be shorter. Which might make it better depending on your point of view. "Lets just advertise for two games as opposed to three."

If it's mostly off, then isn't that what you should expect, rather than a sudden change with just one issue?
I mean, did GW trumpet some grand structural and editorial changes with the last issue that led us to believe that it wasn't a case of a blind squirrel finding a nut?

The LotR games have been out for nearly 10 years, and we still have people moaning about it being in WD.
Get over it.
Where are the whines that they covered 40k, but you only play Warhammer? Or vice-versa?
Did you feel this way when they did an article on BFG, BloodBowl, Warmaster, Mordheim, or any other game GW made?

what do you all think? is this another hint for a new codex?

I can't see why they don't go with a nice red-brown-black scheme for Nids instead of the god-awful schemes they come up with. It's like GW has no clue how to paint their own models the way John Blanche draws them...
