Alright! I just finished magnetizing the drop pod! First up are the petals. I've put a single magnet on each one (and a magnet in the top portion of the pod) to hold them closed. I did this after seeing 70% of the drop pods at the local game store fall open when they weren't suppose to :-P

And here is the pod all together. Its actually being held together primarily by the magnets - its actually still in 21 different pieces.

Now for the storm bolter/missile thingy. A single magnet on the mount, and a single magnet inside each of the pieces.

Wow- Great start on a fully swappable army! Proves what can be done when one is not lazy with the magnets.

I really like the brass etch details (especially the aquila behind the standard bearer's helmet and the hangers off the back of the captian's pack), but you've going to have to be very, very careful handling, packing etc. with those models.

And the bases look good.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Yeah that magnet work is awesome. Really makes me want to magnetize something.

I salute your patience with those magnets! I haven't quite brought myself to try using them yet, but I think your work with the embedded ones looks clean. Good choice on placement with the drop pod magnets too - they don't stick out at all.

The shell casings you made are waaaaay too big for .40 caliber. They could probably work for shotgun hulls...maybe. Still awfully big though. Model-wise they look fine. Plenty of heavy weaponry on the field that could drop those I imagine, especially given the 8 foot tall marines or whatever the scale works out to be.

If you're looking for industrial floor-grating still, try ammunition boxes. Many of them have a sort of rack for holding the bullets in place. I've been collecting them with the express purpose of using them for catwalks. I just pick through the range garbage barrels whenever I go out and there's usually plenty there for the taking. I'm intending on using it for terrain, but it might work for basing too if you're still looking for more ideas.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

It's probably beyond my ability, I just think it feels somewhat flat overall, figured maybe edging or something similar might help.

That's cool. I have a Deathwatch army as well - a labour of love for something that doesn't technically exist within the rules - but I think they're great. Got to make great characters for each of the squad leaders.

Alright, trying to squeeze in a project between commissions (since I have two days off due to snow!)

Deathwatch Land Speeder!

Here's the start of the base. The idea is to have it looking like a Genestealer is bursting up out of the grating to attack the speeder.

A shot of the WIP Speeder on the base:

And the most recent pic. I'm not to happy with the highlights on the black. Next time I'll be concentrating much more toward the edges.

Update on the speeder. I haven't gotten a chance to clean up the grey highlights, but other than that its just about done:

I am about to get started on getting a deathwatch army together myself. These look great! I really like the idea of magnetizing the arms. How stable is a sword arm like that? I'm afraid it would suffer from gravity and lose the pose I set the arm in.

Are the brass logos from Forge World?

The reds are around 10-12 layers of mixes between Chaos Black and Scab Red. It takes a lot of time just adding a little bit more red for each layer, but as you can see the effect is trutly worthwhile.

The magnets are siffucently strong to hold up any plastics you can find to use. I've not yet tried with any pewter bits, but I suspect you'd need some stronger magnets to get them working. I've not had any issues with getting the arms to stay in any position that I want.

The brass etchings are indeed from Forge World - Link - About half way down the page
