With the Chimera's what I've done is flip the guns so they're inside the vehicle leaving a 'ball' in the hole. I then painted it to look glassy like a port hole.

I tinkered with leaving the lasguns off and covering the holes with plasticard, but I was still left with the rim around the port where the lasgun would have been. Looking back I suppose I could have then shaved the rim off but now that they're mostly painted, that's simply too much work to remove something that I'm relatively ok with.

Here's to hoping they eliminate the lasguns on the new chimera kit, but my guess is that the only thing that will change will be the tread sprue. In the meantime, with the impending Tyranid release, I'm treating the lasguns as Gargoyle counter measures, since it appears they can only shoot upwards.

If you just shave off the lasgun bit and leave a flat surface inside the rim then you end up with a porthole-looking viewport. I've seen it done to great effect elsewhere on these boards and have been meaning to do it to my own chimeras.

Hey the Lasguns make perfect sense given that the most effective anti-tank measure for a lot of 40k armies is to get on top of your tank and punch it! It's the perfect position to defend agains that! Really nice paint jobs as well and some great conversions the Manticore is brilliant by the way.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. Looks really solid, as I too look forward to seeing where you head with the infantry. Also even though yes some historical concept fitted in with your hobby it fits for the Imperium, as well they are about as oppressive, xenophobic, and whatever else you can think of. though indirectly you hit the theme of the imperium right on the nose. Cheers!

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Nice models OP. Keep up the good work. Keep the side skirts I say on the command chimera. I personally saw no specific nazi iconography. If you really wanted to term that flag its more Teutonic than anything. Good job at going for a particular theme without putting anything offensive in it. Looking forward to seeing a full force completed. Your subtle, weathered camo effect is great. The medusa looks mean!

keep in mind that the skirts were separate panels though and not one solid sheet. of course thats being nitpicky though
too bad zimmerit wasnt so annoying to model otherwise id suggest that as well at least on the turret but what you have done already is great.

Coming from the guy with the Jihad Army... Look I can judge too!

Anyway on to the topic of the thread, I like most of what you have here, but that said you have too many crosses on you're vehicles. Most late war German vehicles only had two on either side of the hull and remember Lehr was a late war unit.

Also I'm failing to notice any unit badges (Above) on the front hull of the vehicles, though if you have chosen not to go with them that is fine. I'd also have to side with the people against the lasguns in the rear, either lose them or the skirts would be my suggestion.

What about your Russes, being Lehr and all you will have tanks, are you planning on modeling them after Panzer IVs or the Panther?

Also your Luftwaffe scheme is an early war theme, have you thought about maybe changing it later? Examples found here:

I'm having a very difficult time finding transfers of the PanzerLehr unit badge, which is why it's not on any of the vehicles yet. My freehand is shaky at best and I'm not confident enough to paint the badge on myself.

I'll take a look and see if there are any places on line that sell them. Should none be found an alternative would be to print out a picture and turn it into a stencil.

Love the Wespe/Medusa. Is that the Forgeworld kit or something else? I was thinking of doing my Medusas along the lines of either a Marder or a sIG 33 II.

Good paintwork.

I'd suggest you do more with the sides in general. The skirt armor could use some rivets and panel lines. The places where you've omitted the wide Chimera side things could use something similar. On mine I just cut down the side things so they're mostly flush with the body.

Also, if you want to remove the Lasguns from the hull, you can trim them off with a razor, put some styrene sheet on the inside to block off the holes, then fill the empty "portholes." I've done this on mine, it's labor intensive, but I think it's worth it. I filled the holes with roughly circular sheet styrene, filled the rough gaps with super glue, then filled any remaining irregularities with Squadron putty, then sanded/filed it smooth. Also works nice to trim off the rivets with a razor, then glue them back on in a regular patten.

Oh, and I think German themed armies are fine. And I'm Jewish. People on the internets just like to put on a show of how righteous they are.

I nticed the gun front flamer on the basilisk didn't have the normal cloth looking 'shroud' around the flamer, is it forgeworld as well or did you take one of the interchangeable flamers from a new Executioner/Punisher/Demolisher kit and fit it in the slot? It looks nice.

I exceptionally love the attention to detail. If you notice the pic the armor next to the cannon has welding marks along the edge. To me that is some great stuff!

Still loving the execution of the paint jobs. But one question... Why did you use the FW Manticore kit, if you're going for a German WWII look, when you could have built it as a Wurfrahmen 40 / Stuka zu fuss? It would seem to be an easy conversion from a Chimera chassis and would definitely give you that look.

But you did inspire me to look at the Vanaheim-pattern FW stuff again!

It's the flamer from the new Hellhound kit.

Cygnnus, both of those vehicles would have required a half track conversion or scale model kit. I liked the look of the Manticore, as I felt that it had the look of a WW2 vehicle. I see the large rockets as V-2 rockets, and I plan on painting them as such in a black and white pattern.

It has been pretty slow going on the infantry as college tends to eat up quite a bit of time. They're very nearly finished as I just need to paint the hands, add some highlights to the weapons and apply a final thinned wash to tone down the highlights a bit.

You are very good painter, keep the good work coming.

I reckon its better that you used the "balkenkreuz" as your symbol instead of the iron cross, because they dont have the same meaning, the symbol you used is the symbol for the "wehrmacht" which in german means defence force.

Now onto your models, i like the look of your infantry, especialy with those heads, there helmets look like the "stahlhelm" from the era, to me your infantry look like the greandiers (standard infantry) of the time, youve done the theme perfectly.

Keep up the good work

I like the look of the new infantry, but you've got what appear to be at least 3 different color schemes in your army:
- tanks (brown camo)
- valk (flat olive green)
- old infantry (in tan)
- new infantry (in dark brown)

Perhaps unify the scheme as overall brown camo?

Very nice conversions actually (i personally love doing 1:35 world war II models), they really bring across the technology of the time into 40k.

one thing i would like to mention are the sideskirts on the chimera - they were usually split into a few panels, so that if one part became damaged, the whole thing wouldn't have to be replaced, just the section. I think you could get away with scoring the plasticard vertically and using a dark wash/pigments. thus little effort!

keep up the good work!

Lets face it, by the sounds of things some of you people couldn't complete a game of snakes and ladders without running off to the internet to whine that snakes are broken and ladders are too powerful...-Hymirl
