Its an Indy tournament. They do 4 a year (I believe) 2 40k and 2 Fantasy. I have heard great things about these tournaments. I am thinking about trying my hand in one this year. We'll see.

What armies did you guys play.
Just wondering if I have your army on video.
Though, I did collect people's emails.
Didn't stay that long - as me and my friend had to jet.
Otherwise would have had more coverage on it.
In all honestly, the tourney looked meh.
I'd def, play at THSFT than Conquest.
I'll be bringing my all DKOK army to TShft;P

Empchild: I'm not going to say who is right or who is wrong in the game between Keith (Skkipper) & Chase as I wasn't there because I was playing my own game.
You were not at the tournament so I'd try and stay out of any conflicts as all you are getting is second hand information at best.
Skkipper is NOT the White Scars player so if an issue came up regarding shooting out of a rhino that moved over 6" in or the size of Chase's bases 2 games that is not a good sign. Hopefully you misunderstood what Chase was telling you.
I KNOW you are incorrect about Chase's bases being oked:
I attended the judges meeting the night before and Chase's bases were not "OKed. The judge’s ruling was that if an opponent objected to the size of the bases used the player could then sub in models on the correct size bases and not be penalized for playing a different army then was presented for painting. However, I did not see Skkipper at the judges meeting the night before so he might not have been aware of the ruling to ask Chase to use the regular bases. If Skkipper was not aware of the ruling, had issues with the base sizes, and Chase said tough luck the judges oked them then Chase pulled a major party foul in my opinion. However, if Skkipper just grumbled to himself about bikes on big bases and never brought up the point then I don't think Chase was in the wrong. Either way, only Skkipper & Chase were at the game and know what went on between them.
Having never played Chase I don't know if he would be alright "Guestimating" how many models would fit under a blast if they had normal bases. Having briefly talked with Chase he seems like a good guy and would be willing to come to a compromise on something like that. I like Chase's army a lot and the bases are one of the great thematic elements that tie it all together, so the last thing I'd want is to have to have him play a bunch of grey models on black bases against me.
Skkipper allowing Chase's squad to disembark from a rhino in the shooting phase in order to shoot sounds like a VERY CLASSY sportsmanship move that he did not have to allow, and he should be commended for this.
I find it interesting that after he and I had very pleasantly settled the point you had to put your two cents in. In the end it's done and over and I commend him for his sportsman ways. I do however feel that you are poking a dead horse on this one so in the future though I understand your concerns feel free to pm me instead of bringing up resolved grevances between posters.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. Hey Asugradwa, don't forget the Slaughter in Space GT in April. Maybe we'll finally get to play each other
tshft stands for The Seattle Heart of Fire Tournament, run by Zen, who operates the great gaming store of Fire & Sword in Seattle. Good games against good players with good missions! Zen won 2nd best General this year at Conquest NW and is a very cool guy. I'm not sure if he still is doing it but usually your entry fee also gets you lunch on Saturday. Overall a great event to attend for any 40k or fantasy player, plus because how he spreads them out if you are a 40 & fantasy plsayer you can play in both systems at the different events.

the -10 point deduction for not painting your own army seems harsh. this could just be me that but I would rather play against a pro painted army over a plastic land raider and primered terminators.
Yes, I fall into the catergory of more money then time and I really want to send my demons off to get painted, but they have to wait because I am afraid of getting hosed for my painting scores.

Yeah losing half a win just for not painting your own models is pretty harsh. I've always preferred that they just take you out of the best painted/army category. Pulling you completely out of first place (which 10 points can easily do) is pretty harsh. I realize it is a hobby event but not everyone's hobby is painting so as long as it is painted period it shouldn't matter.
Also I heard that the guy that won best general didn't have a fully painted army which made a small part of me die inside. I don't think you should ever win any category at a GT level event without the minimum 3 color rule in effect for your army. Even if it's hideous.

Gregs army was fully painted and painted by some one else. the scores will be up soon, hopefully it will be interesting to see if Greg lost overall due to the 10 point paint deduction

I'm pretty sure that Greg Sparks won Best General & had a fully painted Eldar army. It was very well done, though I don't think he painted it, hence he left early because he thought he was out of the running for best overall.
I think 10 points for not painting an army is a little harsh, 5 points would have been better.
They don't have the full points posted yet. However, blood of kittens has a breakdown, though I don't know how accurate it is.

Seen a cell phone pic of the first page of results. Gregg had 165 (80 battle 51 sports 34 painting), Nathaniel and 175 (90 battle, 47 sport 38 painting). Dunno what the tie breaker woulda been but Nathaniel had Sparks on battle but Sparks had him on sports and painting (assuming he woulda scored 44 -- which to be honest I have a feeling they may have gave him some pitty points for having a -10, can't prove it though). Automatically Appended Next Post: The BoK breakdown claims someone named Nathanel Williams won both Overall and Best General, but their results seem to differ from the ones on the event website.
You can't win two awards at most events like this, so Nathaniel won overall and Greg being the next highest in battle (with a tie breaker from sports it appears) took the best general award.

Glad to know I heard wrong And grats to him for taking it.
My concern with the new 2 ticket to vegas thing is how are the organizers going to do it. Obviously Best Overall gets the ticket but what happens if the second highest scorer won best general (normally a better prize than second overall). Does he get the go ahead to Vegas or does the guy who actually "wins" second overall get it? Any idea how they did it for this tournament as it's the first one under the new system.

Fetterkey: I think the blood of kitten's results are for who had the most battle points.
Hulksmash:
The 2nd best overall stays 2nd best overall with best general becoming something akin to 3rd best overall.
So Nathaniel who won best overall & chase who won 2nd best overall get the vegas invites. Also keep in mind that only the invite is a given, the people still have to pay thier own hotel & plane ticket.

He did try to fire out of a rhino moving over six.
He knew they moved over six.
then he asked to deploy his guys after he found out I wouldn't let him fire.I let him deploy his guys when it was well within my right to say no.
This is a player that is a good player and he tried to break the rules.
I gave him full sportsmanship scores. Would he rather me taken 3-5 points off the his score or point out his quirks so other gamers can be ready for him?
I was talking to a judge and he said he has heard similar stories from other players.
If a player does not deserve full sportsmanship scores, then why do you feel compelled to give them anyways? This is one of the reasons why I don't really like to attend most tournaments any more. Sportsmanship scoring, the way that most events do it, simply does not have any impact on the event, because people feel that if they were to give their opponents a points deduction, even a deserved one, then they are being the jerk, even though it's the player that played like a jerk who is the jerk
Anyways, I'll probably be attending TSHFT so maybe I'll get to play against your lash/berzerkers/oblits there.

So the Best General, if he's second overall loses out on the larger prize support in exchange for a chance for Vegas? I don't really have a problem with it but some people might . I think placement should go on as normal but the second highest overall score just get's the ticket. Hopefully that'll be what happens around here

All the players that got Best in a category got a plaque, the Second Best got a certificate (i.e. Plaques for Best Overall, Best General, Best Sportsmanship, Best Appearance/Painting and Certificates for Second Best Overall, Second Best General, Second Best Sportsmanship, and Second Best Appearance/Painting). I am unsure if Players Choice got a plaque or a certificate though.

It's funny. Most internet debates over cheating are a he-said/she-said affair.
In this case, we have a video of a player cheating while playing.
Players won't stop cheating until the rewards for cheating are less than the rewards for playing fair.
