Sarigar, that was based on http://hobbithobbyshop.com/ARDBOYZ2009SEMIFINALTOP25.aspx.

You had 24 battle points in total, which were the 24 points I gave up to you when I left. If the report isn't accurate, don't blame me.

I'd like you to bring your Orks there Dash. I find that you give a lot of advise and are harshly critical of people who disagree with your strategy. Not a bad thing necessarily (especially since you do it with tact), but you need credentials to back up your words.

Lets see what you can do with them in a bigger pond

Be sure to drink lots of fluids. I downed 6 gatorades and still got cramps after the end of the 2nd day. Standing for 8 hours two day straight isn't fun for lazy guys like me.

Hrm....I tend to bring whiskey or rum disguised cleverly as soda bottles and by round two of a three round tournament am teetering on my feet.

The tougher the competition is, the more...picky I get about the game (when I'm walloping someone I don't care if they're getting extra movement or range), so I find getting loaded during a tournament keeps me laid back. =p

@Dash

Just to clarify, I was the second place Ork player round 2... and I definitely didn't play you round 1, much less get tabled by you.

OT:
I think Orks can still compete in the current meta-- it's just a bit more difficult. I run horde orks, and, like I said above, there are some mission types that just make that list close to unwinnable.

Link doesn't work, but I looked at the site. According to it, you weren't even there, so accuracy may be an issue.

FYI: tabling is commonly means destroying every single one of your opponent's models, which is why your info seemed incorrect. But, don't worry, I reciprocated the 'cheater' and gave my 3rd round opponent full points as well.

Good luck in Philly; you're in for an education.

This is something I really didn't anticipate at my first tournament. Now when I go I buy a 6 or 12-pack of bottled water and usually finish 5 or 6 bottles over the course of play, depending on how well the A/C is working.

Also, having taken a nutrition course last semester, I can say with some authority that gatorade isn't what you should be drinking for proper hydration. You need neither the calories nor the electrolytes, and putting all those extra electrolytes in your body makes your blood hypertonic to your cells, drawing water out of them and making you thirstier than you would be had you drank the equivalent volume of water. Gatorade is for athletes who are doing significant physical activity for longer than an hour because it also gives them some calories to replace their glycogen stores which typically run out after an hour of intense activity or 6 hours of normal activity. Call it 4 or 5 hours for standing about, but you're going to be hungry for food at intervals where you don't need to supplement with liquid calories.

Anyway, I'm definitely taking a mini cooler full of bottled water and ice to 'ard boyz this year.

I read somewhere once that you want to drink a Gatoraid, then refill the bottle with water twice before you drink another.

Seriously, I like to bring about three 20oz bottles of ginger ale - half of the ginger ale is missing and the other half has been replaced by Seagram's 7.

When I started playing 40k, a lot of the rules made no sense to me, and I was argumentative....I couldn't connect that reality had no place in 40k, so I was "that guy." The store where I learned to play took good care of me and eventually I had a good understanding of the rules. I rarely have a rules debate now (usually its me correcting an opponent), and the only questions I ever ask are related to someone's codex that I'm not familiar with. However, I'm still cut-throat in any sort of competition. I get laid back when I drink, so I like to have a few drinks during a tournament so that my opponents and I have a good time.

It works though; I get really good sportsmanship scores at RTTs.

The downside is that every time its my opponent's moving phase, I'm like "Dude...go ahead and move, I trust you...gotta pee."

I usually do scream WAAAAUGH! at the top of my lungs when I Waaaugh! during the 2nd or 3rd game of a tournament. Whenever possible, I try getting the people around me to do it with me.

Usually I either get strange looks, and this one time this dude behind me says in a prissy voice, "Could you not do that again please? I have a headache..."

For sure Orks, way more options.
You cannot run an effective 2500 Dark Eldar force without gimping yourself from lack of good options (i.e. you run out of force organization slots).
Plus I agree with the others, playing Orks in 'ard boys will probably teach you some humility because you are more than likely going to lose a couple games in the long run (not saying anything mean to you as a player, it's just how 'ard boys goes).

9th Age (KoE, Warriors of the Dark Gods-Lust, Sylvan Elves), 40K (Dawn Bringers SM, Night Lords Legion, Tau), AOS (Bretonnia, Ironjawz, fyreslayers) Malifaux (Ressers, McCabe).

Anyone in CO want to teach me historicals?

Hehe, there's a certain part of playing Orks that brings that out in everyone I think. I may not yell it but I do still say at least once a shooting phase or in response to my opponent complaining about my shooting 'dakkadakkadakka'

Im here to trhow a vote for the Dark Eldar. I feel that they are a very good army and I can attest to this ( I started to play them because of the same reasons as you except that it was with my Templars)

If you are making a nasty list:

Vect is awesome, 4 ravagers? Hells yes.

Take 10 man raider squads, with agons. They are game winners, add SC or DL as you see fit. I was a fan of the heamies for a while, but then relented, they just arent that good. And they are extra kill points. Maybe consider another raider with a dracon and like 5-7 incubi.

Night shields and horrorfexes all round! Especially at that high point value.

You can never go wrong with wyches.

Take dark eldar. They are infinitely better then orks. Here is why.

Orks fit into a category of army called "nOObsmasher". The n00bsmasher list only does one thing, but excels at it. You can either deal with his list or cant, but it has no room for tactical choices. In the way of mech orks this means running up full speed and disembarking to unleash maximum close combat death. In the case of a normal player this will be accompanied by simple assault declarations. In the case of a hardcore neckbeard expect screams of waaaagh and dakkadakkadakk. Signs you may be playing this guy include but arent limited to obesity, virginity, and possible self diagnosed aspergers. Such cases.

However the ork army is much like a tau player when he goes to bed with a women. He is awkward and slams like a freight train but runs out of steam amazingly fast, leaving his opponent with a let down feeling and a bad taste in their mouth. So take a horde ork army put up against say space wolves. The wolves can stick grey hunters in rhinos, and wait for the ork charge. Upon the charge they proceed to counter attack and mess up face right and left. Hell they can rapid fire, gun down gobs o boyz and finish them off on the charge. In addition units like rune priests with hurricane/jaws can murder units, and anything in a raider is untouchable until it wants to attack you. Nids can do the same with the wall o gaunts, and then mess you up on counter charge. Finally a good eldar player can simply run away while immobilizing your stuff, long enough to cause you all kinds of grief. And mech guard simply stop orks dead from what ive seen.
YMMV. But at the ard boyz you will be playing some very good players later on.

A dark eldar army is much more talented to play. Sure it doesnt simply brow beat someone. But with some finesse and planning it can lay someone to waste in ways they cannot imagine, and keep on ticking.

Finally, I would like to add about winning almost all your games. I have a mechdar list that has tied one player and lost to another out of the 20-30 people who have played against it. It hasnt lost a game in 2 months. What does this tell me? Absolutely nothing, im still gak at the game, and will get destroyed at adepticon. If you win all your games you arent playing any good competition. Either because people simply dont care or are still fairly new, as is the case at my store. Look at Green Blow Fly, I have a comparable pure tournament record then he does from a win loss draw stand point. In that Ive played around 20-30 games this year at events and have only tied on game and lost in another. Thats it. But I dont leave my comfort zone, I stay local and mostly play at my LGS where i can normally win. I dont expect if we played I would come close to beating him. Thats the nature of the beast. If you are winning a lot locally it generally means you will do worse away.

As far as prize winnings go they are generally nice. I think ive taken home 6 walkers, 5 hammernators, 3 serpents, 6 fire dragons, and 2 fire prisms for all of 50 bucks cash in the last year or so. Dont plan on winning any big event though. Its just so improbable that its not worth the money to attend if thats your goal. For the price of going to 2 or 3 of these big events you can buy an army. And the chance of someone from BoLS or WC coming along and smashing your (or anyone elses for that matter) head in is pretty high in ard boyz.

Arg! We're finishing up the painting and basing of the orks to meet the painting requirements for the GT coming up in February and I was doing the other models as well to get them ready for 'Ard Boyz and now all these great reasons why I should run Dark Eldar. ><

Now I'm just really confused. Nightshields and Horrorfexes all around just sounds so absolutely FUN.

Dash... dance with the one who brought you. Orks >>> Dark Eldar at 2500. If you do take it all with Orks, then you can try it with a more finesse army next year. Don't give yourself a fallback (I only lost because I took Dark Eldar and not my Orks).

I dunno man dark eldar are pretty damn vicious at any points level. And with orks you hit a point where all you have are more boyz. Plus I think the amount of nid and IG players will keep boyz from winning much.

I am intrigued by the concept presented here. You think DE don't hit a limiter at 2500 but you think Orks do?

Allow me to break down the strengths of DE in a simplified and surface scratching way;

1. Dark Lances (and Blasters) they are very good weapons and very cheap.
2. Raiders (fast, open topped transports that come with Lances on them and can be spammed easily)
3. Ravagers (3 plasma cannons or 3 Lances on fast skimmers? Yes please)
4. Our Troops selection is strong and very cheap to bring all 6 in order to swamp other armies that will be smaller then ours.
5. Dangerous close combat options (our HQ slots give us DE Lords/Retinues and Elites gives us Wyches)

I can field 18+ Lances, 6 troop options, 3 Ravagers, and 3+ HQ/Elite options at 1500-1850.
At 2000 I can add in Vect for the extra Ravager and still field all of the above.
At 2500? Well...I can make some squads larger and add on some defensive tools - but I actually cannot increase my offensive capabilities in any meaningful way. DE are strong on offense and weak on defense - so no longer being able to add offense and only being able to add defense effects their ability to properly harm the opponent and I submit above 2000 points the effectiveness of the army plateaus significantly. We're especially hurt by one entire FOC section (fast attack) being filled with options that are, at best, okay - but with no true effective standouts to help our army).

Also, Dash, just as a general bit of advice - I would advocate building a handful of lists, both DE and Ork and comparing them. See which seems to have more bang for its buck and which you'd most like to play. The Internets are full of genius arm-chair quarterbacks (like myself, who should always be listened to) but you're really the best person to gauge what will or will not be a competitive/fun army for you to play with.
Also I would note that playing at the upper Ard Boyz levels is probably not the place to have an army you're still learning with (my 2 cents on that one, YMMV).
