Trackguards are the least of the worries - they are so easy to make, its laughable. About 10 mins with plasticard will fix it.

I ask "Why no more chimera?"
Answer:
Unfortunately Games Workshop has withdrawn the item from sale. We believe it is because they are re making the miniature as they have also withdrawn the hellhound and basilisk miniature.

So,New Hellhound,New Basilisk?

Perhaps all in one kit?

They don't care about that. They've already stated that they'll charge whatever they want for their models (how else do you explain Goldswords and Costigores?). A new model is more than enough justification for a price increase, even if they take away the accessory sprue.

I love the new plastic kits they're making these days, the sprues are so rammed full of parts you really feel like you're getting your money's worth.

The new Chimera will probably be the same price as the other two new tank kits released a while ago and the basilisk as well. I expect it'll be like the hellhound with it's variant parts consisting of different main guns.

Or maybe it'll have the manticore/hydra parts that have been rumoured but that seems like two many bits to fit onto one new spure along with the top hull/turret and pokey out lasguns of the Chimera. That said, the manticore/hydra would need the back of the hull anyway...

I like the new Demolisher kit also. And as for Hellhound, options may be swapped for whatever you want.

However if you compare Chimera & Demolisher, there is a lot of extra sponsons / weapons on the latter.
Chimera has just an extended hull, small turret. No way to have such parts density as in the IG "1st wave" tanks.
I don't see the future kit being a Chimera / Basilisk / Hydra / Manticore pick-what-you-want bazaar.
IG players need basic simple assigned transport as in every army. GW needs a simpler kit to produce, control & package .

Guys, you made me worry finally.
I you take previous Chimera, add crew, dozer blade, stubber (everything useful in current tank accessory sprue), plus all the range of turret options for Chimera and so on : yes it could result in 2 heavily loaded Chimera sprues. This could be charged for the same price as Hellhound...

We'll see.

The Hellhound is 2 sprues. The 'Generic Chimera Hull' sprue, and the specific turret and internals Hellhound sprue. The Chimera will be the same, that generic sprue, and then one for the hull and turret of a Chimera.

Old Chimera kit was £20, tracks were a pain and the hull lasguns are now redundant. New Hellhound is £30, tracks are much easier to fit and the turret weapon can easily swop between all 3 gun variants. Old model had bits like the bedroll, rucksack, spade etc. New kit is good looking with ablative armour on turret, better chemical tanks than the metal hellhound conversion kit, and with the back left open rather than filled with chem tanks loads of conversion options.
Shame about the increase in price, but I spotted mine had a £25 tag by mistake so told the redshirt that was what I was paying. If the new Chimera costs same as a Valk then never mind Mech', I'm going air Cav'

Well, Warseer tells us there's two new Imperial Guard codes for the Battle Missions release, costed at £20 and £30. The former is probably the Chimera, and it being the exact same prices as before probably means there's nothing much altered about the kit. Certainly, if you could make a Manticore from the box, the price would have gone up.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

Here's hoping that the Basilisk box will have more than just the Bassie parts in it then.

Here you go everybody, the plastic box product codes being released 'alongside' Battle Missions. Please note that this is not necessarily comprehensive (as previously mentioned, pending any stealth metal blisters, and I did say that GW might release the new Predator kit closer to Blood Angels than Battle Missions ):

Code:

<Space Marine plastic box code> £26.00 / US$43.00 / 35,00 € / Oz$72.00
<Orks plastic box code> £27.00 / US$44.50 / 35,00 € / Oz$74.00
<Orks plastic box code> £30.00 / US$49.50 / 39,00 € / Oz$83.00
<Imperial Guard plastic box code> £20.00 / US$35.00 / 30,00 € / Oz$55.00
<Imperial Guard plastic box code> £30.00 / US$49.50 / 39,00 € / Oz$83.00
<Scenery plastic box code> £15.00 / US$24.75 / 19,50 € / Oz$41.00

While not specifically assigned in black and white, these comprise:

Space Marine Venerable Dreadnought
Ork Killer Kans
Ork Deff Dread
Imperial Guard Chimera
Imperial Guard Basilisk

In order that some sense of mystery should still be preserved, no revelation will yet be made concerning the contents of the scenery plastic box*.

I don't think the Chimera will recieve an increase in retail price. I think the only change is that the accesory sprue is going away, but just like the hellhound some accessories will probably be mixed into the recut sprue.

With a recut, the volume of sprues are shrinking, the volume of plastic is shrinking. The GW production cost will shrink, price will hold steady.

I'm holding onto hope that the Chimera will get a new turret that's larger and will come with all the legal weapon options. Not very optimistic about it, though.

The Basilisk will likely have at least one other variant in the box if not two, the Chimera will stay a basic transport kit.

As for the trackguards everyone keeps talking about, yes, they look cool but they no longer have any game effect and I suspect given the $15 US price of the accessory sprue very few IG players going forward will be putting those on every vehicle. For example, if a new IG collector decides to have 3 Chimeras, 2 Hellhound variants, and 6 Leman Russ variants in his army and put track guards on every vehicle, that would be an additional $165 plus tax! Many treadheads will have considerably more vehicles in their IG army than that. For that kind of money, one could buy a lot more models for their IG or another entire army.

For me, I've been picking and choosing which vehicles get the track guards from my remaining stock, putting them on some of the newer variants and leaving them off of some of the older models with which they came. When they are gone, they're gone. I'm definitely not spending $15 more on each new variant I add as it is released.

Thanks for these good news. Wasn't I saying to not worry about Chimera price ?
Going from 7 various sprues to only 2 big standardized sprues : this economy will give GW the money they want...
for the moment, until next general price jump

There were no particular reasons to be optimistic about Demolisher and Hellhound kits. They proved to be fully loaded of codex options, each allowing to model three tanks variants.

The pintle mounted machine-gun is missing though.

Concerning the second kit priced 30 £ : a glance at IG codex and on Forgeworld website shows how the Medusa gears and barrel are similar to those of Basilisk. So I assume this will be at least a Basilisk / Medusa kit. But to be on-line with aformentioned kits there should be a third option.

Perhaps a Griffon? That would be sensible as a 3rd option on the Arty tanks.

A Medusa, Basilisk, and Griffon would work out quite well as a "field artillery" kit.

But then, a Hydra and Manticore would be an amazing 2-in-1 kit too.

Well, Guard are the new Marines. Well, other than Marines being the new Marines.

My point is that an "Anti Aircraft formation" boxed set, as well as any other boxed sets they can come up with, are quite possible considering all the recent love the Guard are getting.

Who knows? Maybe one of the sculptors will say "Hey! We should take all the Guard vehicles, slap plasticard and wire on them, and sell them as Looted Ork stuff!". that's an even better reason for them to do a few different kits. Now you've got a slew of tanks for 2 different mech-heavy armies using only one chassis and some conversion bitz/added gibbunz

Perhaps they'll be squeezing in some of the stuff from the old options spre into each new kit as they go, the already released hellhound and leman russ have new parts after all such as crew and stowage boxes.

I'm really curious about the make up of the Chimera kit now, I had assumed each new tank kit would have two each of theose wonderful new large rammed full sprues but the Chimera's price says otherwise. One and a half sprues? Maybe it is two sprues, with the rest of the seond containing aceessorys and they're keeping the price down simply because they expect to sell loads. Would be very sweet if the Chimera came with lots of crew/passenger models and interior detail like the landspeeeder storm.

Just bought an old style Chimera in my local GW off the shelf. No news from staffers about a new model and checking GW website I see old style Chimera is a "featured product":

This lack of information from staffers is not surprising, as this could hinder the sales of their stocks, before the new kit hits the store.

GW certainly kept a certain amount of old Chimera & Basilisk boxes for their stores. They insured themselves of being able to offer all the range for new players. Keeping the last boxes for their own stores is best for the business.

You can check Maelstrom, Wayland or buyforless online : they don't list neither Chimera or Basilisk anymore. They are OOP since a few weeks, at least.

Its probably going to be like Hellhound's turret with similarly swappable weapons.

@Breotan GW isn't going to bring the cost down if they can help it. Its just too cozy for them to maintain prices and not devalue their product.
