I was in an apartment that got broken into a week after move in, then again the next week, right before our renter's insurance kicked in >.< Fake security stickers and a fake security camera did wonders for us. Just get the empty casing of a camera and mount it. No one will come near you

My parents got robbed once. They kicked in the front of the kitchen window and looted everything of value. They'd clearly been watching the house, as they did it when no-one was in in the middle of the day. My mother got freaked out afterwards, and my dad installed three burglar alarms, some big ass toughened glass in the kitchen, and several masssive bolts on the other side of the kitchen door. They came back two weeks later, spent what must have been a good hour breaking everything in with a crowbar to get in, and then took what meagre remains my parents had left (a crappy little black and white telly, what was left of my dads record collection they hadn't nicked the first time, etc). My mum made my dad move after that, as she simply didn't feel safe at home alone anymore.
The security of one's household is a fallacy, but when you are cruelly deprived of that illusion, it becomes impossible to relax and unwind there. It's worse for women than it is for men, because we tend to consider ourselves physically capable of fighting off an intruder with our fists/a cricket bat/a shotgun. Women don't tend to have the physical assertiveness to fall back on.

Yep. I was serious about the moving part. If they don't get a nice big doggie movig is a very valid option.

Don't buy a gun over this. They don't work if you get robbed while you're out, which is when the majority of burglaries take place. You wouldn't want your gun to fall into the wrong hands. I've been burgled quite a few times - it's very unpleasant, so I can totally sympathise. It's important to remember that, unless you live in terrible area (in which case I would recommend moving), the chances of the same people robbing your friend a third time are pretty remote. Even being robbed by the same people twice in quick succession is fairly unlikely. Just get an alarm, get your locks changed/fixed - and get on with your lives as best you can.
I cannot buy a gun or own a gun in any way possible.
While the area is some what pleasant , the house 's back drive lane is near an elementary school. Because of this at night there are some druggies that go there to cause problem.
Im sure the people that tried breaking in the 2nd time ( around 20 hours later ) are the same people. They kicked a hole through the garage door , but i dont think the hole was big enough to craw in , something must have happend and scared them off the first time. So they came back again to finish what they were trying to do.
@Lunahound - I would recommend calling the police literally every single time you see druggies hanging around that particular spot. They won't want to get nicked for possesion or loitering with intent, so if the police keep turning up to hassle them they will probably find somewhere else to piss their lives up the wall.

Why not? Are you mentally defective or secretly a hardened felon, that you can't get a rifle?
Second the point-call the police EVERY time you see the druggies. That will run them off.

Canadian gun laws are not the same as here in the states....in fact I don't think someone under 18 can buy a gun here either.
Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Hey don't blame me for their lack of civilization.
I do believe they can own one however.

If you think your important, in the great scheme of things. Do the water test.
Put your hands in a bucket of warm water,
then pull them out fast. The size of the hole shows how important you are.

I had one of these on my car... I feel it does help as a deterent, and it's cheap. You can get the small signs to put in the yard so that it's more visible, too.
A dog would be best, because then they could take it with them elsewhere, too. Do they like animals? This is probably the best for peace of mind... I'm really sorry to hear about this, especially the second time :-/

Dog and burglar alarms are probably your best bet.
Also, what's the lighting like in your area? If its poor, install movement activated floods, as others have suggested, and then pester the local authorities to get some street lights installed.

Hmm... where did i hear that similar line before i was banned for quoting it...
Mentally defective is a legal term, if thats what you're inferring. Also mental impairment.
For whatever reason if you have certain medical or psychiatric conditions you can't own firearms at least in Texas. In Washington DC its a requirement.

If multiple houses in the same neighborhood have been robbed it is someone thats local that knows the patterns of when people arent home.
If they are breaking THROUGH garage doors no typical security measures are really going to deter them- motion sensor lights are pretty pointless- I mean how often does anyone care if there neigbors porch light turns on?
Alarm systems are kind of a gimmick- they wont save your valuable or your life- as when the alarm goes off- the alarm company then calls the house- if theres no answer they then call the police dept. Who then send an officer if theres someone nearby with nothing better to do. Its a low priority since theres accidental alarms all the time. If you are home and do answer the phone- the response time can actually be slower than if you call 911 yourself.
Someone mentioned hardening the windows and doors- and thats an option- but replacing all the glass in the first floor windows, and getting security doors is expensive. Security bars on the windows is often a more practical if less aesthetic option.
Also- calling the police EVERY time you see the suspected druggie types could very easily back fire. If the local police get to the point where the calls come in and they think 'Here we go, they saw some kid smoking a joint...'
My suggestion, would be that they need to get together as a neighborhood, with someone from the police department, and see what they can do as a community. A neighborhood watch sounds tacky and cliche, but trust me, a bored little old lady or grumpy old man with his lawn, are far more observant than 90% of security guards or police officers. And since everyone has cel phones these days its pretty easy to call in tips.

We arnt sure if its a pattern , or just some jerks trying to get lucky.
Basically starting from the garage door that was smashed ( but couldnt get in ) we suspect it to be the first house they attempted because its made out of wood. Then they tried neighbor's door and fence no luck they are all metal + they have dog. So around 3 consecutive houses all knew about it.
Then the neighbors suspect there is like 4 people atleast. The one in the back lane ( garages ) has a car and a guy snooping around. Then the front side our neighbor's car window was smashed.

Scatter a couple of these bad boys near obvious entry points at night.
I guess it's up to you what you fill them with; some sort of permanent dye would be best. The option is there though for filling them with petrol or even ground glass if you really want to feth up their lungs

As far as i know , there are also 3 neighbor that were victims either by theft or was been vandalized.
Can anyone suggest any products that can help against intrusion ?
I was thinking if there should be those automatic lights that light up when something moves by.
Security measures are only half the issue, if you live in the wrong neighbourhood all the security in the world wont stop attacks, short of armed guards.
Security does help if the house appears better protected than others, thus burglars are invited to try elsewhere. This means a deterent presence, even a fake burglar alarm box can do that.
Next thing is the common sense stuff, don't advertise the house as empty, shut unattended doors and windows, even if in the house.
Now for active deterents, a big dog is always a good call. Something with a bass woof, not a yap. Though even a yappy little dog is some help, burglars don't like attention being drawn to them.
Best defence is to move somewhere better, if your neighbourhood has no effective community watch, and or is targeted by scum there is little you can do, some zones are nice others a toilets. Choose your location wisely.
n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.
