IIRC, Scarabs originally clamped on and reduced AV. One thing some people forget is that 2nd ed Necrons had an EMP kind of thing that messed up your technology when in range. So that power maul you're about to smack that Warrior with just became a big stick.
They probably had a rough AdMech playtest codex at some point, considering models were sculpted.
And don't forget about Codex: Darkside...that was thought to be imminent at one point too. Makes you wonder what kind of old, weird stuff is on the design server there in GWHQ.

They had a lord, a flyer, and the standard two or three pose ones that are being discussed from the second edition and Gorkamorka.
Basicly they showed up and everything died. IIRC, they appeared in the Rogue Trader book back when the game first started out, and the same picture showed up later on in the third edition rulebook. At the time, the Necron looked like the stale pose shown below.
Is it ok to dig that old picture out of the Rogue trader book, or will GW send me a C and D letter with a happy face on it?
These were the "Chaos Android", right?
I think they also made it into the first few editions of SPACE MARINE/TITAN LEGIONS too...
I think so. If anything they were made along the same way with the detatchable weapons and choices. The Space Crusade had a Dreadnought Expansion.
Heres the link at Boardgame Geek where I found a couple of the pictures.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

I still have some of those dreadnoughts.
Between the chaos "androids" and the 2nd ed. Necrons I always wondered if those early necrons were originally intended as robots for the Adeptus Mechanicus. One thing always stuck out was that one of GW designers once said they really wanted to redesign the Necrons (from their 2nd ed appearance) because they "looked too much like something the Adeptus mechanicus used." While true, given the time line of things there may have been some connection there even if it was only a result of brain storming for one leading to the next.

There was a story in one of the books either the Inquisitor, or one of the older books that talked about the robot armies turning on thier tech priest makers.
Anyone else recall this one and could direct me to where to find that?
There was a discussion about that very same Necron/ Android army along the line of that army. This was one of the reasons that they gave in the game to get rid of using the robots. They said something like that they were impure, and susceptable to being corrupted. I/E the chaos constructs.

I think you're talking about the Iron Men from the first Gaunt's Ghosts novel.

I used to have loads of robots during Rogue Trader. Didn't you just love the order system?

If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!

I'm really enjoying all this talk about old rumors. I wasn't part of the 40k online communities back then so I never got to see all these delirious rumors about killing the Emperor and giving the Mechanicus their own army.
About the Heresy - I remember rumors of a Heresy conversion kit to come out with the latest Space Marines codex, but it's pretty obvious that didn't happen. Still surprises me that GW hasn't milked that for all it's worth yet. Maybe they'll save it for a future expansion when they really need one.
